Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points and most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you’d love to be in the Mysteries, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3853783--The-Archers-spoilers-thread-5-Cant-wait-for-7-02pm-Join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Thanks for thread title ideas to @Roysnewshirt and @Witchwife. Apologies if I’ve forgotten anyone else.

Do we think the Mysteries replace the usual fun Hmm storylines around giving things up for Lent? Light relief while we wait to see if the SWs go for realism and tragedy when Alice’s baby is born, or bottle out (as it were) and go for everything being fine? Will Jazzer and Tracy get back together again? (No bookie in the land would take money for that, of course they will.)

Over to you!

It sounds as if I missed a corker of an episode! Not one to inflict on my teen daughter over supper, by the sounds of things.

Has time flown by faster than I imagine?

PursuingProxemicExactitude · 09/03/2021 19:37

It already is, House. (Or at least, it's on the BBC TA site.) I'm catching up on the first six minutes ...

No. Alice was in the shop and said she had 6 weeks to go Then the contractions started fast and strong
HouseOfTheRisingMum · 09/03/2021 19:53

Thanks perusing. Just about to listen now.

MissBarbary · 09/03/2021 20:01

I still don't like Alice.

echt · 09/03/2021 20:22

Well that was a good episode. Lots of believable tension.

Alice's slip? while in the throes of labour will start a whole new SL

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 09/03/2021 20:25

I would put money on that having been one of the two Stimpson episodes this week, on the whole.

Putthetulipsthere · 09/03/2021 20:34

De lurking after not posting for a long while. Love reading all your posts.

Any suggestions on when Alice might have had her first pregnancy??

R4 · 09/03/2021 20:34

Hello, HouseOfTheRisingMum. You chose an exciting time to de-lurk! I could have done without a whole episode of labouring, though. Poor Hollie Chapman must have been exhausted after all that groaning.

EBearhug · 09/03/2021 20:40

I did laugh at the continuity announcer - something along the lines of, "imagine coming into the world, and the first face you see is Jazzer's!"

BoreOfWhabylon · 09/03/2021 20:57

MysticBore™️ predicts:

Jazzer will have a post-nativity epiphany, reassess his life and go off to train as a paramedic.

And/or develop a burning ambition to become a father himself.

theThreeofWeevils · 09/03/2021 21:08

Think that was just her alcohol withdrawal delusions when locked in the bathroom. I was hoping for the full Eraserhead scenario then, with there really being something in the bath, and lookung forward to Chris encountering it. Oh well, not as if I'm unused to disappointment, is it? The Snell-beast still lives, after all.

JanFebAnyMonth · 09/03/2021 21:49

No I don't think that was a delusion. She couldn't have been prefers when she went for that "jog" which landed her in Borcester General could she?

We knew she wasn't telling Chris the truth about it but was there even more that she was hiding??

theThreeofWeevils · 09/03/2021 22:10

No I don't think that was a delusion. She couldn't have been prefers when she went for that "jog" which landed her in Borcester General could she?
Yes, she could have been (why, though - does contraception never work in Ambridge?) and, evidently, was. Bang on 12 weeks, she said they told her.

Prestissimo · 09/03/2021 22:16

Jazzer will have a post-nativity epiphany, reassess his life and go off to train as a paramedic.

I wondered if he might want to train as a midwife actually. I thought he was pretty good.

BoreOfWhabylon · 09/03/2021 22:30

Yes, that would work too.

TheSilveryPussycat · 09/03/2021 22:43

I presume Jazza is no stranger to birth.
But pigs, not women.

Trumplosttheelection · 09/03/2021 22:46

Jazzer and Jim as midwife team. How much does Alice have to suffer?

Though fair play to him, he was pretty good

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 09/03/2021 22:55

She was pregnant when she passed out by the road on 15th September last year and was taken to hospital by Gavin.

She was "bang on twelve weeks" pregnant on 6th October according to both calculations and those of the midwife.

JanFebAnyMonth · 09/03/2021 22:57

Oh and why oh why in "drama", if the baby IS going to live, do they have to put us through the agonising seconds of thinking "Why isn't that newborn baby crying???"

Just stop it.

JanFebAnyMonth · 09/03/2021 22:59

Sorry think I was forgetting when this pregnancy came to light!

So when could the previous one have been?

There have been so so many points during the last ?five years when it's looked like things were about to fall apart for Alice, and then things have died down again.

EBearhug · 09/03/2021 23:00

^She was pregnant when she passed out by the road on 15th September last year and was taken to hospital by Gavin.&

Yes, they tested her in hospital, which was how she found out she was pregnant in the first place.

theThreeofWeevils · 10/03/2021 00:08

So when could the previous one have been?

THERE WASN'T ONE. It was booze-addled delusions she was flashing back to.

BeaLola · 10/03/2021 00:17

I'm thinking it will turn out that Alice was pregnant before but not wanting children had an abortion without telling Chris ? There was a time when she worked at Price Bowman or whatever it was called when she was out partying/socialising and didn't they have a work weekend away thing ?

WitchWife · 10/03/2021 00:48

Weevils is right she was having a flashback to her awful delusions of giving birth before, poor sod.

I really hope the baby is ok.

But yes I do despair of (and have bored on before about) the women of Ambridge - who capably manage the breeding schedules of animals all the time - being 100% incompetent with their own contraception.

Only the Grundys and their partners have had wanted pregnancies in Ambridge in my memory. And before that, David and Ruth. How many unintended pregnancies can we tot up in the last 30 years?
