Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points and most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you’d love to be in the Mysteries, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3853783--The-Archers-spoilers-thread-5-Cant-wait-for-7-02pm-Join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Thanks for thread title ideas to @Roysnewshirt and @Witchwife. Apologies if I’ve forgotten anyone else.

Do we think the Mysteries replace the usual fun Hmm storylines around giving things up for Lent? Light relief while we wait to see if the SWs go for realism and tragedy when Alice’s baby is born, or bottle out (as it were) and go for everything being fine? Will Jazzer and Tracy get back together again? (No bookie in the land would take money for that, of course they will.)

Over to you!

Prepare for possible disappointment as Shula would probably be an NSM ie unpaid so I doubt she'll be going anywhere. But the sw's may have other ideas since they can't distinguish between pcc and pc.

There isn't usually a queue of people clamouring to be church warden so they have to be grateful for who they get (as long as they don't run off with the money!).

Roysnewshirt · 09/03/2021 12:06

Kirsty is really testing people’s goodwill. She is on pretty thin ice given her husband is on remand for a very serious offence and now she is irritating the hell out of everyone by being Lynda’s lackey on this stupid play. I get that she needs a distraction but she really should just keep quiet and keep a low profile. She’s giving Philip’s defence lawyer material to say that she was actually implicated and he played a lesser role. This craziness may well be a reaction but to an outsider she looks like a person who has got off scott-free and is just carrying on like nothing has happened.

Roysnewshirt · 09/03/2021 12:07

Too boring to write about Shula

Chemenger · 09/03/2021 12:12

Am I right in thinking that Susan doesn't have a part in the play? (I could be wrong becasue I don't really listen to those bits when Kirsty is flouncing about full of the joys of religious fervour and whatever). In that case it cannot be long before her resentment about that turns into "There's no way Kirsty knew nothing about it, I went to prison for less...Now she's swanning about like lady muck... You have to ask what she's living off." I wait with bated breath and hopeful anticipation.

I'm a bit behind because it turns out that someone knocked the door with six minutes left of Thursday's episode last week and I was so enthralled that I never unpaused it to hear the end, BUT I was a bit Hmm about Adam's drunken rambling about waking up on the sofa with a small baby on his chest. firstly because they'd just been talking about party lifestyles so when he said 'rough night' I was still thinking he meant in terms of on the sesh, and secondly because obviously you don't sleep with small babies on sofas. with that and then urging Alice to have a bev I thought blimey what shitey parenting advice will he come up with next. honey on the dummy? coke in a bottle? Adam you suck at this.

I don't think it's going to matter one way or the other in the case of the Cartersprog. Though Alish might find advice to rub its gums with whisky for teething pain thirst-making 'triggering'. So if the worst comes to the worst and it survives, that is something I would like to hear. Obviously. Grin

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 09/03/2021 13:47

theThreeofWeevils
I'd be more inclined to overlook a bit of human trafficking on the part of my neighbours than forced amateur dramatics.

I'm finding the "oh woe is me I used slave labour unwittingly" schtick infuriating.

I'd overlook using slave labour more than the blasted play: one was done in ignorance, the other is wilful malice.

MadameButterface · 09/03/2021 14:30

I never tried this, although I did once toy with the idea of banging out a few lines of nelsons teething granules after a particularly challenging night.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 09/03/2021 14:35

When I had a baby with a cold who was sleeping badly because of the snotladen life he was leading, so that we were both exhausted, my health visitor actually suggested that I might have a glass of sherry or some other fortified wine an hour or so before the last feed of the evening so it got into my milk, and the baby was fractionally drugged by it so he would sleep for more than an hour or so.

(It worked, but I can't see it being recommended now!)

MadameButterface · 09/03/2021 15:14

that's ingenious! when I had my eldest, my mum brought me a four pack of Guinness when she visited me on the ward, proclaiming it to be 'the best thing for breastfeeding'. when I told her we weren't supposed to have alcohol on the wards, she was completely outraged and said 'well the midwives used to bring you a Guinness when I had you'. two weeks she stayed in hospital after having me, being brought Guinness in bed! and people say 'back to the 70s' like it's a bad thing.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 09/03/2021 17:01

Guinness or other stout ale used to be recommended for its iron content, too. Half a pint a day for the last three months of a pregnancy and the first the months of breast-feeding.

Ratched · 09/03/2021 17:09

I had breast reconstruction following mastectomy and Guiness was prescribed for me to....err.....encourage the bowels😁

JanFebAnyMonth · 09/03/2021 17:32

Am so glad everyone else hates the am dram! Although I do like a bit of La Snell

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 09/03/2021 18:01

We are now getting the worst of all worlds: am dram without even La Snell for light relief.

Chemenger · 09/03/2021 18:35

Exactly what I was going to say.
Darker · 09/03/2021 19:08

BlueCowWonders · 09/03/2021 19:12

Silvercatowner · 09/03/2021 19:17

Wowwowwowwowwow

BeardieWeirdie · 09/03/2021 19:19

Ooft I was in labour this time last year (I had good reason for missing TA!), that was a traumatic listen!

ILoveShula · 09/03/2021 19:22

Welcome to Borsetshire, Magna.
Please die. It won't be in vain.

Pinkycheeks · 09/03/2021 19:27

I just want everything to be ok with the baby.... really good episode though!

theThreeofWeevils · 09/03/2021 19:29

Jim might dial down his moral outrage at modern slavery wen it comes to getting that car valeted.
And the Aldridges had better stand him a really good new coat.
How thick are we meant to think Alish is, btw? Poor lass, though, having Jazzer sqinting up her nethers.
Spewk.

HouseOfTheRisingMum · 09/03/2021 19:33

Aghh I had to leave 4 mins in. How long till it’s on sounds?

HouseOfTheRisingMum · 09/03/2021 19:34

Hello by the way. I’ve been lurking for a while.
