Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points and most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you’d love to be in the Mysteries, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3853783--The-Archers-spoilers-thread-5-Cant-wait-for-7-02pm-Join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Thanks for thread title ideas to @Roysnewshirt and @Witchwife. Apologies if I’ve forgotten anyone else.

Do we think the Mysteries replace the usual fun Hmm storylines around giving things up for Lent? Light relief while we wait to see if the SWs go for realism and tragedy when Alice’s baby is born, or bottle out (as it were) and go for everything being fine? Will Jazzer and Tracy get back together again? (No bookie in the land would take money for that, of course they will.)

Over to you!

I imagine any partners of alcoholics would identify with Chris’s feelings.

Yesterday’s episode (and other recon ones)made it very easy to place when it / they had been written - at precisely the time Jackie Weaver was all over the news, and reopening was announced - Tracey now knows when cricket practise and matches can restart!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 31/03/2021 08:56

I see last night was so dull nobody has found anything to say about it! Agreed. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.....

I liked the Slice typo. Alan could be Flan. Any others?

ILoveShula · 31/03/2021 09:05

Oliver could be Sliver

ILoveShula · 31/03/2021 09:06

Josh could be Tosh

ILoveShula · 31/03/2021 09:07

Leonard could be Leopard. Is he younger than Jill? Is she a cougar?

ILoveShula · 31/03/2021 09:09

Pip could be Pup
Rex could be Vex

Do I get an award for pushing the thread forward? Is there no more devoted fellow poster?

ILoveShula · 31/03/2021 09:09

Rosie could be Nosie

LillianGish · 31/03/2021 09:10

I see last night was so dull nobody has found anything to say about it! Agreed. Exactly - the Mysteries limp on with a new silent Darrington character and a frankly unbelievable visit by Harrison. I can't ever imagine being home with a newborn and welcoming an unannounced visit from one of DH's mates - much less if I'd been through the trauma of a premature birth in the backseat of a car with Jazzer as midwife. Possibly the most contrived scene ever.

ILoveShula · 31/03/2021 09:10

Rob was Nob

Roysnewshirt · 31/03/2021 09:43

Harrison and Slice? I would quite enjoy that twist. He wants children too so it could solve a lot of problems. He would lose Chris as a friend but that’s no loss; I don’t know how Brian would feel about having a copper in the family but she doesn’t have to marry him....

TheSilveryPussycat · 31/03/2021 11:10

Jizzer?

theThreeofWeevils · 31/03/2021 11:34

Edam: a cheese as joyless and tedious as Adam himself.

ILoveShula · 31/03/2021 12:03

@TheSilveryPussycat, I swerved that one. Grin

@theThreeofWeevils, you win! Grin

Taswama · 31/03/2021 12:07

Pat could be Oat

Taswama · 31/03/2021 12:07

Fallon could be Gallon

ILoveShula · 31/03/2021 12:26

Molly and Tilly could be Jolly and Silly

My father used to call RichTea "sensory deprivation biscuits"; Edam is sensory deprivation cheese.

I really struggle to understand what right Lynda thinks she has to object to the script Darrington uses for their Mystery Plays. I have zero knowledge of the subject, but I wouldn't have thought there's exactly a wide choice of scripts available. If Lynda wanted something truly unique maybe she should have written it herself.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 31/03/2021 16:37

In rhyming couplets, no doubt...

The script is a new translation, but clearly in the public domain or Lynda wouldn't have been able to get hold of it. And since Darrington is performing it over Easter and Ambridge later in the year, the person copying someone else's idea is Lynda, not Evangeline whatshername; Darrington got there first.

JanFebAnyMonth · 31/03/2021 17:45

I was left wondering whether Kirsty has ever considered working for the UN, or even just ACAS?

She’d obviously cope with a high stress job really, really well, evidenced by her seeming ability to put aside the whole slavemaster husband/ being questioned by the police / divorce straight after marriage thing, to concentrate on her communiteee. Respect.

The whole thing is bizarre. Even for a Lynda am-dram production story line Hmm

By the time Lynda had declared war yesterday, my heart had sunk into my boots.

Now, that really made me Grin Weevils!
EBearhug · 31/03/2021 19:17

I laughed at Jill and Leonard using the caravan do Ben and Evie couldn't.

Well, I was half-right! She is going to have to write one herself.
