Didn't Jill teach Ben to cook?

GabrielleNelson · 19/03/2019 11:36

A few updates from the BBC website and the RT for this week, courtesy of Mustardland. Interesting (or not) that the BBC continues to have just the holding text for this Friday (22/3). All change for Jill looks likely to be a new cardigan and perhaps a different shade of lipstick rather than moving into Glebe with Leonard, but who knows!

Radio Times 16 - 22 March 2019

Helen's low mood continues to be a cause for concern, despite her attempts to pass it all off as concern for the Montbeliardes, which are soon set to be calving. But when she ends up telling a lie, her fib could come back to bite her.

Leonard is getting used to all the comings and goings at Brookfield, but some sights are still causing surprise. Then it's all change for Jill as Leonard has a treat in store - but will a crisis of confidence scupper their plans?

Elizabeth, meanwhile, expresses gratitude to those who've helped her these past few months. She's convinced that Freddie's impending return will be a new start, but other family members fear his presence will bring more problems.

GeorgeTheBleeder · 19/03/2019 12:25

Thanks Nelson!

Oh please, please let Ed become suspicious of his Faustian employer ...

LizziesTwin · 23/03/2019 22:12

@Motoko - excellent foretune telling.

Motoko · 23/03/2019 23:18

Motoko - excellent foretune telling.

Haha! I wanted Kate to be forced to be a grown up, and find somewhere (not owned by family) to rent.

Still, it was rather satisfying hearing her shock that there were conditions attached, and rent to pay! And I loved the way Peggy got her to do the litter tray, that was masterful!

StillDumDeDumming · 26/03/2019 09:15

Has anyone looked at the Academic Archers conference. There’s a lecture entitled something like Queering Schula. I feel like I’m completely barking up the wrong tree with what I think that means. Any ideas?

GeorgeTheBleeder · 26/03/2019 09:44

Erm ...

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.buzzfeednews.com/amphtml/patrickstrudwick/trans-therapists-sign-open-letter-to-mental-health-body-over

Shock Oh, Shula ...

Grin

I'm sure that isn't what they're planning ...

GeorgeTheBleeder · 26/03/2019 09:46

Sorry! Karen Pollock, psychotherapist, is giving the Queering Shula talk ...

StillDumDeDumming · 26/03/2019 09:50

I just can’t imagine TA going anywhere near a conversion ‘therapy’ SL. Maybe it’s just a super academic flight of fancy? Is it possible that we could infer....

There’s a slot on why Adam and Iain don’t have gay friends that made me smile.

GeorgeTheBleeder · 26/03/2019 10:02

No, I'd imagine Ms Pollock works in a much broader area. But still ... Let's consider the possibilities:

Shula, through either church or horses, meets and falls in love with a woman.

Shula decides she's really a man.

Shula decides she's asexual.

The first is possible. The second highly unlikely. The third - would hardly be story-worthy.

Tbh people who use the word queering (ie a generation and a half younger than me) seem to use it to mean 'questioning of heteronormative culture' in a very general way - just as past generations might have labelled themselves socialist or neo-liberal. So more as a statement of keeping up with current debate rather than a statement of any definitive of difficult action.

GabrielleNelson · 26/03/2019 11:11

I've said before I think TA under the new Editor Jeremy Howe is most unlikely to tackle a trans SL. Google his name to see why, poor chap.

GeorgeTheBleeder · 26/03/2019 13:06
  • Although it's always possible to bring in an 'Acting Editor' ... I don't honestly think that will be Shula's story, though!
Motoko · 26/03/2019 13:30

Maybe she'll have a relationship with a woman next.

GeorgeTheBleeder · 26/03/2019 13:35

The only way it could possibly be believable is if they give Shula an unreciprocated crush on someone who declines graciously.

Because they certainly haven't given her any particularly lovable qualities recently.

Madcats · 26/03/2019 13:36

Wasn't Shula all set to travel round the world to discover herself a couple of years ago? What happened to that plan?

Motoko · 26/03/2019 15:55

Yeah, that's what sparked the divorce, because she realised she didn't want to be married to Alistair any more. Maybe sorting out the divorce meant she had to put it on the back burner.

thislido · 27/03/2019 23:49

28 Mar Natasha is put on the spot and Will offers a solution.
29 Mar Freddie returns to Ambridge but has his prison experience changed him for better or worse?

31 Mar Freddie makes his presence felt and Ben receives an offer.
01 Apr Lily is left frustrated and Alistair meets his new business partner.
02 Apr Elizabeth questions her feelings and Will makes a breakthrough.
03 Apr It's a bad day for Tom and Toby has a proposal in store.
04 Apr Shula's confidence is knocked and Freddie attempts to move on.
05 Apr Ed's suspicions rise and Josh is not impressed.

07 Apr Jill makes a shocking discovery and it all proves too much for Shula.
08 Apr Reality bites for Freddie and there's tension at Bridge Farm.
09 Apr Lily reveals all about recent events and Kate looks to the future.
10 Apr Jim has some harsh words and Leonard has a confession to make.
11 Apr Tom has an announcement to make and Ruairi finds himself in trouble.
12 Apr Freddie tries to make amends and Jazzer makes a rash decision.

Radio Times 30 March - 5 April

Jill hosts the Archer clan at Brookfield on Mothers' Day with a newly released Freddie as the guest of honour. But with Lily creating tension and Ben asking awkward questions, will the day go without a hitch? I somehow doubt it....As for Freddie himself - well, he's struggling to settle back into village life, but is determined to make the most of his freedom. His actions, however, will have immediate consequences for another family member.

Meanwhile, over at Bridge Farm, sparks fly over the electric fences and Helen is feeling the pressure, while Johnny finds himself up to his neck in it when the cows start calving. Will he ultimately be able to prove his worth as a farmer?

Cast: Ruth, Pip, Josh, Kenton, Tony, Helen, Tom, Ruairi, Toby, Alan, Will, Mia, Emma, Ed, Shula, Alistair, Jim, Jazzer, Elizabeth, Freddie, Lily, Johnny, Roy, Russ, Tim Oatey, Leonard, Jakob

Belated thanks fro the last lot, Nelson.

Motoko · 28/03/2019 03:11

07 Apr Jill makes a shocking discovery

Isn't that the day of the Christening? I'm guessing it's Jill finding out about Rosie's middle name being Grace.

thislido · 28/03/2019 05:48

Yes. Unless she discovers Leonard has been doing painting by numbers and he then has to confess to Shula later in the week.

Interested to hear what Lily will be revealing all about, unless she's just updating Freddie.

GeorgeTheBleeder · 28/03/2019 06:48

I'm totally confident that we'll get Grace-based-shock and painting by numbers (or some other art-fakery) in the next couple of weeks. .

Jill may soon feel the need for a nice long holiday far away from Ambridge ...

Thanks for all spoilerings!

MikeUniformMike · 28/03/2019 18:41

Maybe Leonard's paintings are better than CMR's.

StillDumDeDumming · 28/03/2019 20:19

God I hope so. That’s be great! Or possibly more commercial?

GeorgeTheBleeder · 28/03/2019 20:29

That would be a nice wrongfooting of listeners. And an explanation of why we suddenly have two artists in TA at once. (But I think we'll get basic comedy exposure.)

Acis · 30/03/2019 01:19

I suspect Lily will be revealing Lizzie's illness. Interesting that they've made the new vet a speaking part.

BoreOfWhabylon · 31/03/2019 11:40

I suspect the new vet will appear only long enough for Alistair to realise he has made a terrible mistake.
