Even if you don't have a leg(?), a life or a clue, Welcome to the first ever 85th Archers thread! Smile

Wild speculation and sensible questions always welcome - especially any newcomers.

A little game for the weekend, inspired by Timetogetup0630 and Gruach on the last thread:

Invent an explanation for how your username was the inspiration for an Archers storyline, character, etc - be creative!

My username is telling the story of Toby, Adam and Ian, although it probably needs some punctuation: Dad! Dad/Dad? Grin

dairyfarmerswife - bit too easy for you, but as professional country folk maybe you could judge the winner? Star

Credit to MrsGrindah for the clever thread title

It really doesn’t sound good for Nic at the moment but I guess the Ambridge Health Fairy might get to work on Saturday and on Sunday she’ll be sitting up in bed fretting about junior church.

I don’t supposed there is any chance Christine has been at Peggy’s online banking and taken some cash? I’ve got so used to over contrived story lines it did occur to me that maybe this was how she could afford to treat them for pancake day and why Peggy can’t get into her account now Shock

MikeUniformMike · 22/02/2018 21:21

I fear that Nic will not make it through the night, deaded to make the brotherly love between Will and Ed stronger and to make Emma hate herself.

Gruach · 22/02/2018 21:28

All the Grundys will have clear consciences where Nic is concerned. Kenton and Jolene, on the other hand ...

BoreOfWhabylon · 22/02/2018 21:35

Good point re Peggy's bank account RNRN

MikeUniformMike · 22/02/2018 21:41

Nolly? Go-go gone.

Vango · 22/02/2018 21:51

All the Grundys will have clear consciences where Nic is concerned. Kenton and Jolene, on the other hand ...

Perhaps not Emma Grundy. Who, let’s face it, has always despised her a little. Wasn’t happy when Nic married Will. Massive resentment of the wedding and honeymoon. Wasn’t keen on her as a step-Mum. Has never been a real friend (primarily because of her hatred of Will), but perfectly happy to take advantage of Nic’s generosity of spirit. Prior to the Bull outburst Nic did nothing but try to foster harmonious relations between the pairs. Emma has never compromised. The only reason she refused to babysit that night was because she didn’t want to allow Will a night out on his birthday. Any thought of Nic’s feelings on the matter didn’t concern her. If she’s wracked with any guilt she has only herself to blame.

And Nic’s not “wet”. She’s just a nice person who wants a peaceful, happy life.

Bea · 22/02/2018 21:53

Nooooooooo! If nic is dreaded I'll be most put out!!.... Emma and Ed will help put with kids etc and the rift will be repaired!.... But then again... Is all that Talk about will going dancing and Joe saying make the most of it and appreciate that lovely nic... To make it all the more poignant!!.... If they kill her off I'm going to be furious!!... Poor Emma doesn't deserve that guilt! And will should not be allowed to have the "my wife has died and you made her last days miserable" card to throw at Emma and Ed!!.... Angry

Bea · 22/02/2018 21:55

Granted... Emma has her faults but I love it when they were friends... Remember when they were in cahoots to persuade will that nic getting a part time job was a good thing!...

Gruach · 22/02/2018 21:57

Yes ... But we’ve seen Emma going out of her way to foster reconciliation in the past week. And Will about to get measured up for dancing shoes. So they can all gather in harmony at ... whatever gathering is apposite.

Vango · 22/02/2018 22:11

That’s the trouble with people like Emma. Kind-hearted people like Nic believe they’re friends. Then they find out at some point that it’s completely one-sided. The babysitting conversation opened Nic’s eyes to Emma’s real lack of care for her. Nic realised, to her great disappointment, that Emma would rather make up a lie about her and Ed being busy than allow them a nice night out. Once Nic admitted that truth to herself she had to believe that Emma had no real interest in her as a friend.

I don’t think Emma expected Nic to be able to see through her. When Emma realised she’d gone too far she had no choice but to apologise. Nic’s too valuable to Emma who knows she can’t afford to lose that relationship.

Vango · 22/02/2018 22:14

Remember when they were in cahoots to persuade will that nic getting a part time job was a good thing!...

If Will says the sky is blue Emma will champion anyone who argues it’s green. She uses Nic for her own purposes. That’s how it seems to me.

Bea · 22/02/2018 22:21

Nooooooooo! I don't think Emma is that mean and manipulative... I think she is genuinely a good person who's just a little bit of a "horabin"!... Grin

TheAntiBoop · 22/02/2018 22:32

I think Emma is a bitch tbh. I really don't like the way her character has progressed over the years.

Vango · 22/02/2018 22:36

I don't think Emma is that mean and manipulative..

Crikey, I do! She’s never nice to anyone. Either resenting those she accuses of “looking down on the likes of us” or resenting those she (falsely) believes “think they’re better than us” or resenting those who have a bit of money etc etc. She is very, very mean-spirited.

LillianGish · 22/02/2018 22:39

Is this a public information plot line about the importance of having a tetanus jab or recognising the signs of sepsis? I’d hardly even clocked Nic’s scratch at the time, I thought it was just a vehicle to make a joke about the state of Joe’s hanky. Surely she’s not going to die Shock

TheAntiBoop · 22/02/2018 22:43

So what happened to the kids while he was taking her to a&e?

LillianGish · 22/02/2018 22:45

It had already been conveniently arranged that Poppy would stay overnight with the Grundies - were the other two with their dad?

Vango · 22/02/2018 22:45

Wasn’t Poppy staying overnight at Grange Farm? And the other two are older I think? Nic and Will have been together for at least 11 years!

TheAntiBoop · 22/02/2018 22:48

Oh of course - he had arranged it so he could take her out.

I hope she doesn't die as she is one of the very few genuinely nice people. A bit like Hayley.

BikingBeatrix · 22/02/2018 22:49

I‘m quite disappointed by tonight‘s development - l was wanting it to be Emma that found Nic and got her to hospital. Then Will would have been expected to be at least a little grateful to Emma for saving Nic‘s life. I agree with others Emma‘s not as bad as Vango and Anti-Boop paint her so helping Nic might have redeemed her a bit. If Nic survives this at least there‘ll be a message about getting to hospital fast, not even waiting for an ambulance. I think Emma‘s got some traits from her mother and can be very pushy, unpleasantly so often, but l think she and Nic had a genuine friendship before this latest stooshie.

BikingBeatrix · 22/02/2018 22:52

I think Jake and Mia were maybe 5 and 3 when Nic met Will. That would put them well into double figures by now, l think.

Vango · 22/02/2018 22:56

Emma‘s not as bad as Vango and Anti-Boop paint her Shock

I’m not aware of ever presenting any misinformation about her.

BikingBeatrix · 22/02/2018 23:05

Grin l‘m only going by what you both said above.. l don’t doubt there are others who dislike Emma intensely. I dislike what she does at times, but l don’t think she‘s all bad. That‘s all really. I just happened to remember your names. Wink

Vango · 22/02/2018 23:26

The mere mention of her tends to set me off Biking. There’ll be a spike in DDD’s stats tonight.

GnotherGnu · 23/02/2018 00:32

When Nic was protesting about being taken to A&E, was anyone else thinking that she must have been on MN? She'd post one of those "Shall I go to A&E" threads, and at least three idiots would leap up and tell her that, because she'd been ill a few days, it couldn't be an emergency and she shouldn't take up precious NHS resources.
