Even if you don't have a leg(?), a life or a clue, Welcome to the first ever 85th Archers thread! Smile

Wild speculation and sensible questions always welcome - especially any newcomers.

A little game for the weekend, inspired by Timetogetup0630 and Gruach on the last thread:

Invent an explanation for how your username was the inspiration for an Archers storyline, character, etc - be creative!

My username is telling the story of Toby, Adam and Ian, although it probably needs some punctuation: Dad! Dad/Dad? Grin

dairyfarmerswife - bit too easy for you, but as professional country folk maybe you could judge the winner? Star

Credit to MrsGrindah for the clever thread title

Likewise the conversation about Will going dancing with Nic was a signpost. We'll have him feeling guilty that he didn't go along with the one thing she asked of him, yadda yadda.

GnotherGnu · 22/02/2018 13:31

It could be interesting if the paternal grandparents turn up to the hospital at the same time as Jill to view the Pipsprog. Or the christening.

TheAntiBoop · 22/02/2018 13:40

Well if nic dies there's going to be a big story about her kids surely?

ppeatfruit · 22/02/2018 13:40

You mean the Fairbrother grandparents? Yes could be VERY interesting Grin

SheepySheepy · 22/02/2018 13:45

Too interesting. They'd never do it Grin

Hesitating to post at the moment - terrified of confusing this and the Spoilers thread!

SusanWalker · 22/02/2018 14:07

I'd like Nic to nearly die and possibly lose her arm. But then when Will is all happy because now she can't work (due to her arm) and has to stay at home, her near death experience makes her all feisty and she trains as a teacher (following on from her work at the church). Then Will is really proud of her and comes over all domestic and supports her.

Just nipped over there, but chickened out before the end and ran back here to pretend I don't want to know what happens! Grin

I read this thread most days but rarely post. But wanted to share the wonderful selection of kefir I spotted recently.

I obviously haven't been paying close enough attention to this week's episodes while cooking the dinner.

What's wrong with Nic & her arm?

R4 · 22/02/2018 18:07

Last Sunday, Nic and Joe were rummaging through some items to take to the upcycling fair that Emma talked her into. Nic scratched herself on something but didn't bother to clean it (not even with Joe's offered hanky. boak)
We are all assuming that she has septicemia and her arm will drop off. Cos we're cheerful like that.

Minimammoth · 22/02/2018 18:11

Tetanus?

extinctspecies · 22/02/2018 18:13

A few people went down with bad colds /flu a couple of weeks back & there was much speculation that it could lead to someone's demise, but all seem well again now?

extinctspecies · 22/02/2018 18:14

I'm wondering if/hoping they will shoehorn in a reference to the first female NFU President in tonight's episode. Big news round here!

Gruach · 22/02/2018 19:15
Sad
MrsGrindah · 22/02/2018 19:17

Blimey! It’s all kicking off tonight!

MrsGrindah · 22/02/2018 19:19

Thought that was good acting by the actress who plays Nic. Even liked Will when he said gently “You can’t see yourself love”. I’m quite moved actually!

BoreOfWhabylon · 22/02/2018 19:19

Yup, sepsis.

Just in time for a Friday night cliffhanger.

EmilyDickinson · 22/02/2018 19:20

Oh no, poor Nic.

EmilyDickinson · 22/02/2018 19:30

extinctspecies Nic scratched her arm while clearing out things from the Grundy's to sell at the vintage fair. Joe was concerned about the bleeding and offered his, none to clean by the sound of it, handkerchief. Nic said something like, "I'll deal with it later." And carried on sorting out stuff.

At the vintage fair the following day she said something to Fallon about it being difficult to lift something one handed, so it sounds like she wasn't using her injured arm. She also sounded breathless and tired and was yawning.

A couple of days later (yesterday) Will mentioned that Nic was in bed with a cold.

I was all braced for Brian to confess running Matt over.

Abra1de · 22/02/2018 20:11

I found Helen's speech about how having children had made the colours of the world brighter, quite moving

So did I.

RubyLennoxExists · 22/02/2018 20:23

So what happened tonight with Nic? Shock

meredintofpandiculation · 22/02/2018 20:38

Seems rather in bad taste to be talking about anything other than Nic, but...

So pleased that Brian knew all along. 'Cos I remember the days when Brian was a ruthless agri-business man with few redeeming features. Then they brought in Justin to take over the role. Nice to have Brian's character confirmed.

Though if Brian knew all along, why was he sitting in that pub trying to track down a contractor from long ago? Simply to make sure the guy wasn't in a position to testify against him?

I did wonder at one point if Justin's concern was the result of the dumper being in his employ at the time of the dumping.
