The Archers: Will Lillian decide what MATTers JUST IN time? Discussion #82

Discuss The Archers here, the long-running thread series started by PseudoBadger. Maybe my puns will tempt her back to take the reigns?

I think Sleeping Beauty references can wait until the next thread which will probably cover much of December.

Lurkers de-lurk! New to The Archers? you're welcome here; the friendly crowd will answer your questions.

And what a dreadful, insecure position Lilian now finds herself in. Where's she going to go when Justin kicks her out of his house? (Must admit I'm a little confused about who actually gets the £££ from the Dower House sale ...)

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 05/11/2017 20:25

The money will be paid to trustees and they should deal with it in accordance with the trust purposes for the benefit of the beneficiaries.

But who the trustee , the trust purposes and the beneficiaries are is anyone's guess.

TeenTimesTwo · 05/11/2017 20:30

The point is that Matt was a trustee, wasn't he? Which is why Justin wanted to buy the house. So Matt as a trustee could pinch the money? Though I'm not convinced he would rob Lilian again (I'm a trusting person).

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 05/11/2017 20:54

I think Matt and his solicitor were trustees. Presumably the disposition (or whatever the English word is for the document which transfers title) was signed awaiting completion before Matt had his accident.

If Matt is not the sole trustee the other trustee cannot just allow Matt to make off with the money.

MelodyMadeline · 06/11/2017 00:42

Anyone else just too frustrated with Lillian? What is she even playing at? Initially I really hoped she could keep things together with Justin, but I don't think she deserves that anymore.

EBearhug · 06/11/2017 07:53

Justin is too controlling. He had to force himself to say he asked her not to see Matt, rather than he forbad her. Of course, the sale of the Dower House means she's totally screwed again. But whatever she does with Matt, she'll be better off without Justin. At least in the long term.

cheminotte · 06/11/2017 08:02

What a great hiding place for Matt - the same hotel he was at previously, where half the village work.
Maybe a discreet B + B in Borceter (sp?) would be better? All being laid on a bit thick at the moment imo.

R4 · 06/11/2017 08:23

If I was Cathy, I would evict Matt (and have stern words with Lilian). He should be in hospital: GG don't need a seriously ill person on their premises, it has all sorts of liability implications and chances to ruin their reputation.

Seeing as Justin has gone off in a huff to London, do you think that Lilian will take Matt ("promise me it's only for a short time, darling") to the Dower House?

Cromwell1536 · 06/11/2017 08:36

"oh, just buy me a cheap pay-as-you-go, Pusscat". Could Matt be signalling his involvement in dodgy deals any more clearly? Is FagAsh thick as two short ones? Who owns the Dower House now and who has received the money from the sale? If Lillian is the beneficiary of the trust, does that mean she gets the cash? I would like to understand that bit (not that script writers seem to give a toss about financial particulars) but other than that, don't really care about this ridiculous story line. I wish someone would kill off Matt, and I wish Justin would dump Lillian.

Bekabeech · 06/11/2017 09:42

Well I liked that: a) Justi has shown himself as controlling
b) Lilian didn't go wth Matt - and Matt is showing himself to still be deeply dodgy
There is still hope for Lilian - hopefully she has money if not the house.

campion · 06/11/2017 09:44

R4 Yes

TheAntiBoop · 06/11/2017 09:46

The bad news about Justin owning the house is that it means we are stuck with him for the long term now

Tbf on him, he does have a right to be annoyed with lil!

R4 · 06/11/2017 10:24

Tbf on him, he does have a right to be annoyed with lil!

That's putting it mildly. Considering the grief she gave him after Scotland, she is a Grade 1 hypocrite. Justin would be well shot of her.

Goodness knows why Lilian is getting involved in Matt's suspiciously heavy suitcases and burner phones. She may like drama in her life but there's a difference between a bit of excitement and getting involved in dodgy business with people who have, apparently, a tendency to hit'n'run.
It didn't end well last time and she was the one who paid the price. You would think that she would have learned her lesson.

TheAntiBoop · 06/11/2017 10:29

If it were the other way round I don't think people would think it controlling that a woman forbid her fiancé from spending all his time with his ex lover

Not that I'm defending Justin. I wish he, lil and Matt would fall down the sink hole and take pip with them. This whole sl is irritating. In order to care about whether the wedding happens or not you have to actually care about the characters

And where's the puppy while he's in London and she's with Matt all day?

ppeatfruit · 06/11/2017 10:31

Melody Yes she's very naive for a 70 yr. old. Matt is obviously 'on the run' metaphorically (he can't walk let alone run Grin ) from someone. Why is she behaving like his Moll? Stupid idiot.

EBearhug · 06/11/2017 10:49

And where's the puppy while he's in London and she's with Matt all day?

Either at home chewing Justin's slippers, or being palmed off on Jenny and thence Joe.

Bekabeech · 06/11/2017 12:37

If Justin had just insisted she spent the day with him instead of Matt, that would have been fine. But he said she mustn’t see Matt “again” which was OTT, and also showed he wasn’t as smart an operator as Matt.
The manipulative thing would have been to demand “just one day” and then to try and take the burden from Lilian by visiting in her place, or booking Matt into a convalescent home some distance away.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 06/11/2017 12:48

and who has received the money from the sale? If Lillian is the beneficiary of the trust, does that mean she gets the cash?

Only if either (a) it was a bare trust for her in which case she can ask for the trust assets to be appointed to her or (b) if it was not a bare the trust now allows for it to be wound up and assets appointed out to the beneficiaries and she is a beneficiary.

I have no idea what purpose in law was served by creating this trust.

LillianGish · 06/11/2017 17:59

I’m back after two weeks without WiFi for a mega catchup. I can’t work out what happened to Matt - it was one of those ‘doesn’t work very well on radio moments’ - but assumed Justin was to blame. Whoever it turns out to be it’s hardly the greatest Whodunnit in the world as there simply aren’t enough clues. I’m just looking forward to Lillian opening the suitcases and finding the stolen bunting.

R4 · 06/11/2017 19:18

So who's been to see Murder on the Orient Express this weekend? I can't remember whodunnit. Was it the butler?Grin

Gruach · 06/11/2017 20:10
Grin

And the prize for subtlety goes to tonight's SW ...

AuntyElle · 06/11/2017 20:44

"Oh dear, sorry... another selfie in our favourite restaurant..."
Urgh, the smug wankery of David. Barf.

AuldHeathen · 06/11/2017 20:48

Was that the worst ever episode of TA? The MattLil shenanigans was like Fawlty Towers.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 06/11/2017 21:11

Goodness Ruth and David are dull.

Imbroglio · 06/11/2017 21:46

And Pip is restored to farming sainthood.
