Discuss The Archers here, the long-running thread series started by PseudoBadger. Maybe my puns will tempt her back to take the reigns?

I think Sleeping Beauty references can wait until the next thread which will probably cover much of December.

Lurkers de-lurk! New to The Archers? you're welcome here; the friendly crowd will answer your questions.

Justin is super controlling, did he ever manage to get Lillian to sign over her business to him in the end? I know she was deliberating - that to me was such a red flag. Now he owns the dower house too.

Matt hasn't said a single thing that isn't dodgy in days. I actually think it's fair of Justin to have had enough though - he showed almost saintly patience at first whilst she sat by his bedside round the clock. Liillian has shown who is more important to her and i can't see this ending well at all.

Timetogetup0630 · 06/11/2017 23:30

I can usually cope with Daaaviiid and Roof but tonight's episode was vomit inducing....and as for all that grovelling to Pip. Ugh

Rubycat · 06/11/2017 23:37

Yes to R4 and the Murder on the Orient Express comment.. anyone else notice what Roy and Lexi went to see! I'm trying not to spoil that plot for anyone who hasn't seen it but it does seem like there's an awful lot of suspects for Matt's injuries... and it could be any of them!

MelodyMadeline · 06/11/2017 23:42

Am I the only one who loves Ruth then?

PerspicaciaTick · 07/11/2017 00:06

The Murder on the Orient Express bit made me snort with laughter - it was just perfect!

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 07/11/2017 00:19

Am I the only one who loves Ruth then?

Yes.

Roy is going to 'fess up about the tape isn't he?

JessieMcJessie · 07/11/2017 01:20

“The salt cod was just so delicious” “we drank so much vinho verde”

SW really googled the shit out of Portugal eh?

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 07/11/2017 01:52

That made me laugh Jessie.

MelodyMadeline · 07/11/2017 02:41

Haha

littlebillie · 07/11/2017 06:40

Just been thinking has MATT making a run for it with Lillian’s trust money from the house sale that heavy suitcase is interesting

BertrandRussell · 07/11/2017 08:00

I was half hoping Matt would drop the suitcase, it would burst open and the foyer would be covered in doubloooooooons

cheminotte · 07/11/2017 08:14

I love Ruth too Melody - she is my mothering role model. Cares about her kids but is not a perfect housewife.

Ceto · 07/11/2017 08:27

Gah, I hate that tone of wonderment and massive admiration in David and Ruth's voices when Pip came up with an idea about the farm. She's done a farming degree, ffs, there's nothing massively "mature" about using the knowledge she's gained as a result. And mature people who do something careless own up to it.

TheAntiBoop · 07/11/2017 08:41

Mothering role model! Really! She produced pip and has totally forgotten about her youngest while ensuring the middle child gets his full dose of middle child syndrome.

Cromwell1536 · 07/11/2017 08:58

Also, Ruth is a lazy cow around the house. It's perfectly possible to work full-time, bring up children AND produce some basic meals from time to time and have a modicum of cleanliness and order in your house. No family of five adults should require the full-time ministrations of a 90 year old to be kept clean and fed. Are the script writers possessed of a collective tin ear or are they just trying to wind the audience up? Ruth-David-Pip/Lill-Justin-Matt and now Roy and Lexi ('Adtam is a goooohd mahn' - er, on what basis are you making that judgment?) are conspiring to make this the weakest, most unengaging passage in a long time.

Vango · 07/11/2017 09:09

I wouldn't describe Ruth as a good role model.

I'm not particularly bothered about her cooking/cleaning capabilities, but it's very clear that she favours one child over the others and its damaging the Pip/Josh relationship already. Way beyond normal sibling spats (to my ears at least).

She's a mother who loves her children as long as they do what she wants and expects them to do. She doesn't encourage their own interests, nor does she encourage them to attempt to strike out on their own as independent adults. She resents Jill for the exact same behaviours towards David - very hypocritical.

She has no interest in anything other than the farm, and her children's role in its future. Outside of that, nothing else seems to matter to her.

And as far as I remember she was prepared to leave the lot of them behind when she contemplated running off with Sam.

cheminotte · 07/11/2017 09:26

That was slightly tongue in cheek... I just prefer her to e.g. Shula or Jenny.

TheAntiBoop · 07/11/2017 09:35

I think both Shula and Jenny are much better mothers

Halsall · 07/11/2017 09:40

It said it all for me when David was moaning that Josh 'owed' them the money for the taxi because he hadn't come to pick them up from the airport.

You can bet your sweet bippy that if it was the sainted Pip who'd failed to turn up because of some urgent job, they'd have been prostrating themselves before her in their eagerness to prove that it was all totally fine, don't worry about them, her important WORK came first, after all she is the future of Brookfield and on and on and sickeningly on.

Pah.

R4 · 07/11/2017 09:43

And as far as I remember she was prepared to leave the lot of them behind when she contemplated running off with Sam.

And don't forget the time when she abandoned all of them for an indeterminate time to be in NZ, because studying cows is more interesting than Christmas with your family.
And the time of the Great Move North because keeping HeatherPet in place was more important than disrupting David and the DC.

Vango · 07/11/2017 09:44

Which is mainly why I'm so fond of Josh Halsall. Constant criticism, never-ending moaning and mockery from their little team of three, and still he carries on and usually manages to sound upbeat!

R4 · 07/11/2017 10:03

still he carries on and usually manages to sound upbeat!

Upbeat? I'd call it "full of himself". He is the next generation's Tom, self-important and money-obsessed.

Ceto · 07/11/2017 10:18

It's weird how Ruth is so inconsistent. When she kept banging on about how all she really cared about was being at Brookfield, surely every listener was wandering how that could possibly be true given the Sam the Cowman episode, the New Zealand episode, and the Brookfield move bollocks.

And YYY to what Halsall said. If someone to whom I'd offered a free lift started making out I owed them money if a work commitment prevented it, I'd be deeply unimpressed.

R4 · 07/11/2017 10:28

If someone to whom I'd offered a free lift started making out I owed them money if a work commitment prevented it, I'd be deeply unimpressed.

If family promised to pick me up from the airport but decided that money was more important, I'd be deeply unimpressed. I can't believe that a discussion about tractors couldn't be re-scheduled.
