Discuss The Archers here, the long-running thread series started by PseudoBadger. Maybe my puns will tempt her back to take the reigns?

I think Sleeping Beauty references can wait until the next thread which will probably cover much of December.

Lurkers de-lurk! New to The Archers? you're welcome here; the friendly crowd will answer your questions.

A punch-up caught on camera then causing escalating problems for a same-sex couple parenting a child (though in a different - adoption - context) was a prominent SL in the last series of 'The Unforgotten' on ITV earlier this year. I thought of it immediately the moment Adam took a swing at Matt.

(For added pedant-points: Louiza Patikas (Helen Archer) popped up in a small part as a pathologist in the series at some point, but I can't remember whether it was the one I'm talking about or the previous one).

TeenTimesTwo · 04/11/2017 15:22

Halsall Thank you I was trying to think of that series as I had also caught the similarity.

campion · 04/11/2017 16:33

'The Baby' and 'The Wedding' are both looking a bit unlikely now.

Matt being a major factor.

cheminotte · 04/11/2017 16:39

Anyone know the legal position? Do you have to report it if you witness an assault in the street? Does that change if it's on cctv (which is mostly only reviewed if there's a reason to do so)?

AuldHeathen · 04/11/2017 19:18

Please, no more on Unforgotten series 3. We get the dvd when it’s issued which l think won’t be till some time next year for this one. I think ‘Helen’ was in series 2 but can’t recall anything more.

I don’t think you’re obliged to report an assault if you witness it. Not reporting a road accident is against the law, but l don’t know it applies only if you are the driver involved. I’m sure a person with more knowledge will be along soon.

TinyTumble · 04/11/2017 21:16

Quick interjection - the actress playing Noluthando originates from Swaziland and also grew up in Zimbabwe; though she is UK-based I think.
(Crawls back to lurker-dom)

TinyTumble · 04/11/2017 21:17

Oh, and while I’m here - it’s Lily. (I have no insider knowledge but I feel it in my waters... whatever that means.

R4 · 04/11/2017 21:30

I don't understand the Adam/Matt punch-up thing. Are we supposed to be worried that Adam taking a swing at Matt will jeopardise surrogacy / adoption / whatever.
Hasn't that ship already sailed, because Ian took a swing at Rob in 2014 as witnessed by Sir Bradley and half the village?

EBearhug · 04/11/2017 22:30

Adam punching Matt puts him more in line as anew attempted murder suspect. That will probably screw their surrogacy/adoption chances, but maybe that wouldn't be his first worry when in prison.

AuldHeathen · 05/11/2017 00:14

Though even Plot will acknowledge that disliking Mr Crawford isn’t enough to do someone for attempted murder - without some evidence, and he does already realise Matt was not popular in Ambridge. I suspect though, if Adam does get turned down for adoption/surrogacy lan will go it alone. He desires fatherhood much more than he wants to stay with Adam.

Halsall · 05/11/2017 00:16

My lips are sealed re. Unforgotten, Auld Grin

AuldHeathen · 05/11/2017 01:05

Thank you, Halsall. Smile

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 05/11/2017 12:03

Not reporting a road accident is against the law, but l don’t know it applies only if you are the driver involved

Only applies to the driver and only if injury to another person or person's property or an animal.

Other obligatory reporting is any one in a profession regulated by the financial services authority has a duty to report money laundering etc. to their money laundering officer who has a duty to report.

ppeatfruit · 05/11/2017 12:32

Tiny I don't think it was Lily, she would've been at the ball and anyway her car would not have been powerful enough (going by the engine noise). Though while just listening I heard that the driver DID brake before the accident so possibly not a paid hit man.

choccyp1g · 05/11/2017 13:46

They have given us clues to indicate that it was someone driving FROM Grey Gables, so couldn't be Justin.

PerspicaciaTick · 05/11/2017 15:47

Matt is clearly involved with some sort of organised crime syndicate. The suitcases contain something they want and he has. They've gone after him...next they will be going after Lillian as she has the suitcases.

newtlover · 05/11/2017 15:52

OK, I missed most of this week and was interrupted duiring the omnibus, but....wasn't Shula inexplicably missing during the hunt ball? and very cross with Matt? and strangely upset in the following days????

pascalpascal · 05/11/2017 15:58

..wasn't Shula inexplicably missing during the hunt ball? and very cross with Matt? and strangely upset in the following days????

This! ^^

Imbroglio · 05/11/2017 17:08

I like your theory PerspicaciaTick. I look forward to Lilian being kidnapped and locked in an attic with only Primark clothes to wear.

PerspicaciaTick · 05/11/2017 17:28

And no Gin. She'll never make it Shock

birdsdestiny · 05/11/2017 17:39

I am finding ian really irritating and a bit obsessive, possibly even controlling. He interrogated Adam as to why he didn't answer his phone straight away, played the martyr when Adam wanted to go to the NFU social, and was cross that Adam hasn't remembered Ians shift pattern. He is like a dog with a bone.

FavouriteParksAreCarParks · 05/11/2017 17:58

birdsdestiny

I came here to vent precisely the same sentiment! I’ve thought for a long time that Ian is controlling, manipulative and always wants his own way. He uses the guilt Adam feels about his affair as leverage and Adam always bends to Ian’s will because of this.

Not at all surprised that Adam finally blew up at him. Don’t know how he’s contained himself this long. 😤😤😤

Vango · 05/11/2017 18:41

Ian gave up on the idea of fatherhood a long time ago! Adam was the one who recently reintroduced the idea and pushed until Ian agreed. It's hardly surprising, that having been offered the opportunity, Ian's keen for Adam's reassurance and commitment to the idea. How anyone can possibly describe Ian as controlling or manipulative us beyond me, given everything Adam's put him through in recent years (Pavel/Charlie etc.). And Adam is once again lying through his teeth. All Ian wants is honesty. Hardly too much to ask as they embark on parenthood together.

Gruach · 05/11/2017 19:18

Poor Matt. Grin

He can't even run away from whoever is after him.

TeenTimesTwo · 05/11/2017 19:22

So, the sale of The Dower house has gone through.
Previously held in trust for Lilian with Matt as trustee, now owned by Justin?

Would it be possible for Matt to be absconding with the sale proceeds having plundered the trust? (Probably not)? More likely the proceeds of these dodgy racehorse deals he's been doing?

He doesn't want people to know he is there. I think he thinks it was criminals trying to kill him, not some disgruntled Ambridge resident.

I'd like to see Alistair and Shula come through this somehow, though not sure how that will happen.
