The Archers: Will Lillian decide what MATTers JUST IN time? Discussion #82

DadDadDad · 31/10/2017 12:47

Discuss The Archers here, the long-running thread series started by PseudoBadger. Maybe my puns will tempt her back to take the reigns?

I think Sleeping Beauty references can wait until the next thread which will probably cover much of December.

Lurkers de-lurk! New to The Archers? you're welcome here; the friendly crowd will answer your questions.

ppeatfruit no problem with farming. It is more that the way it is delivered it sounds so artificial and as if it is shoehorned in. A golden rule with good writing is show not tell.

TheAntiBoop · 28/11/2017 08:38

So the Matt/lil sl was actually to set up an elderly fraud victim sl after all

R4 · 28/11/2017 11:19

Nice to hear Winnifred Robinson refer to TA as "an everyday story of country folk".Smile

LillianGish · 28/11/2017 13:17

Thanks for the link Gaspode. Not so far-fetched then. Still not sure she wouldn’t have discussed it with someone though ...

cheminotte · 28/11/2017 16:14

I wasn't at all clear from Sunday's episode is Alice is a Remainer or a Kipper?!

MrsArthurShappey · 28/11/2017 16:28

Kipper I'd say! Can't be many remainers thinking it'll all be fine!

birdsdestiny · 28/11/2017 18:08

She voted leave. I wouldn't say she was their greatest example of critical thinking.

Gruach · 28/11/2017 19:15

Oh my lord - how boring is the Ian/GG menu story?

Though it sounds as if Lexi is definitely surrogate-in-waiting.

Vango · 28/11/2017 19:19

Love Ian and Lexi. Lovely to hear a happy story. Freddie very believable. Loved Noluthando. Loved all of it in fact Grin.

Gruach · 28/11/2017 19:23

True - Freddie and Noli about as good as we'll ever get from the younger generation of TA. Poor Freddie - don't know exactly what's eating him but his impotent rage made me glad I'm not a teen any more.

R4 · 28/11/2017 19:25

I don't understand the menu SL. Surely this will all have been sorted months ago so GG can place advertising, take customer bookings, source ingredients and place orders with suppliers.Confused

I liked the Lizzie / Freddie / Nolu scene. He needed telling.

R4 · 28/11/2017 19:28

don't know exactly what's eating him

or is it a case of 'what's he been eating?'[mushroom emoji]

Gruach · 28/11/2017 19:58

Yes about the menu. Ridiculous.

I wondered about possible mushroom effects on him - but feel too ill-informed even to ask. I imagine there will be some consequences somewhere. But generally they seem to boil all Freddie's moodiness down to the loss of his father, don't they?

R4 · 28/11/2017 20:10

Or is he just a grumpy male. DS was very similar at that age. It's all about the impotent rage, isn't it. I did like Freddie's gnashing of teeth.Grin
DD had a huge, fun fancy-dress party - joint with her best mate, so they invited loads - in the Village Hall for her 18th. DS wanted none of that and just went drinking up town, with a few mates on false ID borrowed from elder brothers/cousins.

BertrandRussell · 28/11/2017 20:17

It's bad enough that we're expected to believe that the panto isn't cast before the first week in December, but the Grey Gables Christmas menu??????

And did you notice the reference to the Fairbros geese last night? When did they sneak in? And who's been looking after them?

BoreOfWhabylon · 28/11/2017 20:25

YY Bertrand. It couldn't have been signalled more clearly that GG is going to buy up all the surplus geese for the show-stopping traditional menu.

Can't wait for 'Ian Craig at Grey Gables' to appear on Celebrity Masterchef though Grin

BoreOfWhabylon · 28/11/2017 20:27

I meant Professional Masterchef!

Although, if he was on the Sleb version a bunch of the contestants could be sent to GG.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 28/11/2017 20:30

The Christmas menu SL is ludicrous.

And as for the wedding when did Lilian and Justin last speak to each other?

Cromwell1536 · 28/11/2017 21:24

Well, I've perked up a bit now. Is Lill going to go so deeply into denial that she's going to turn up in full wedding fig on the day, and be stood up at the altar? No they wouldn't repeat that after Tom n Kirsty would they?

When did Ian and Lexi become BFFs then? Menu storyline very dull, but does make me wonder should I try goose for Christmas this year? the fat-management is slightly off-putting (although I could, channelling Ian and Adam, wield a turkey-baster) and could I just end up with something greasy? how does it compare to duck in flavour? Thoughts?

Freddie seems very young for 18, but Elizabeth seems to have forgotten that he can actually leave home/college and there is nothing she can do to prevent it. I'd say they were on a collision course but perhaps Noli's intervention is meant to bring it all round.

BertrandRussell · 28/11/2017 21:43

Miss Havisham, as I live and breathe!

AuldHeathen · 28/11/2017 21:55

I was thinking Miss Havisham too - her bag in one hand and a bottle or fag in the other. Till the end of time. That episode was good tonight. I wonder if Elizabeth has considered that Freddie maybe doesn’t enjoy being a twin, especially as Lily is portrayed as much brighter and more confident than he is. I’ve got a soft spot for him. Maybe by the end of the week we’ll have Elizabeth face to face with Kenton hearing how it really feels to be twin to a confident sister. Maybe he can have a supportive chat with Freddie too, though l can’t recall if he’s still on a ban from Elizabeth.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 28/11/2017 22:17

Aren't wedding invitations a bit late in going out if the wedding is 22/12?

C8H10N4O2 · 28/11/2017 23:08

I wouldn't say [Alice] was their greatest example of critical thinking

One of the personality transplants I hate the most is Alice. She was hard working, motivated, ethusiastic and an engineer despite being indulged. ALmost the opposite of Kate. I hate that they have turned her into a self indulgent smug idiot..

EBearhug · 29/11/2017 00:22

Most restaurants round this way have had their Christmas menus settled by the end of summer, which is when they start telling you it's where you should be booking. (Same for the panto.)

EBearhug · 29/11/2017 00:24

Meant to add, I did like the continuity announcer, "I never thought I 'd say this, but I'm almost starting to like Noluthando."
