Discuss The Archers here, the long-running thread series started by PseudoBadger. Maybe my puns will tempt her back to take the reigns?

I think Sleeping Beauty references can wait until the next thread which will probably cover much of December.

Lurkers de-lurk! New to The Archers? you're welcome here; the friendly crowd will answer your questions.

I read the Ian and Adam scene as Ian trying really hard to deal with his disappointment and Adam finally getting properly behind the plan. It sounds like they are both more on the same page now.

echt · 24/11/2017 21:44

Get a grip, Ian

Snurk. :o

LillianGish · 25/11/2017 06:31

I agree echt. How on earth has Brookfield got the money for a bells and whistles milking parlour? I can't believe a few months rent from Rickyard and the money from Pip's contract milking shifts was enough to pay off the IBR compensation let alone fund the new parlour. it's just another one of those unbelievable Brookfield stories. No doubt its the same Ambridge financial fairy who will ensure that Aunty Cardboard is not really left destitute after being conned out of all her money. A disappointing episode after such a good one on Thursday.

JessieMcJessie · 25/11/2017 06:39

And if I hear one more time how AMAAAZING Pip was to manage the farm while they were away...for two sodding weeks...give me strength.

BertrandRussell · 25/11/2017 06:44

"And if I hear one more time how AMAAAZING Pip was to manage the farm while they were away...for two sodding weeks...give me strength."

Yes. Professionally qualified and experienced 25 year old farmer runs farm shock!

R4 · 25/11/2017 08:19

They keep talking about the current price of milk but ... SuperPip decided to dry off some of the cows.Confused

Imbroglio · 25/11/2017 08:50

Where is josh and has he paid off the stolen farm machinery man?

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 25/11/2017 09:00

I always listen on catch up and just fast forward anything Pip and Ruth related. I can't bear Pip's weird inflections.

Imbroglio · 25/11/2017 09:03

Let's hope Alfie sweeps her off to his farm.

ppeatfruit · 25/11/2017 10:02

BOOP Nice to have you back btw! Like Lilian Gish I think that Linda is a well rounded character, she has understanding of 'black sheep' like Kate. But as I said upthread she also is highly ego driven and loses her empathy at times. I know quite a few types like that in RL!

ppeatfruit · 25/11/2017 10:04

I don't mind Pip but yes , Ruth does over do it with her, as if she's a14 yr old just doing her first job on the farm! Everyone needs encouragement but there are limits!

Halsall · 25/11/2017 11:06

And still on the subject of Pip.....what's with Ruth's weird insistence on trying to get her back 'home', with all the guilt-tripping 'we miss you'? She works there! She's there every day! And as she said herself, LoLo is 5 minutes down the road; she's hardly in Timbuktu.

Don't even get me started on how they're mysteriously so awash in cash after the IBR debacle and imminent financial meltdown that WonderPip can now be handed fistfuls of moolah for an expensive refit of the milking parlour. Do the SWs ever read their own past scripts - or does a few short months ago now count as dim and distant history? Confused

TheAntiBoop · 25/11/2017 11:12

Given past performance, pip will cock something up which the dopeys will blame themselves for when she strops off because she 'can't deal with this'

Perhaps we will be rewarded by her marrying a farmer and moving to his farm and basically dumping Brookfield leaving the dopeys in the lurch. Josh and Ben will swoop in and save the day

Vango · 25/11/2017 11:43

I don't think I could cope with the "grieving". Ruth would blame David. David would confide in Jill. Usha would counsel Ruth. There would be tension in the air and unspoken resentment for years. I don't think I'd be able to listen Grin.

Imbroglio · 25/11/2017 11:50

My new fantasy is that Ben has hacked into all sorts of national and international IT systems and basically controls the milk price from his bedroom.

TheAntiBoop · 25/11/2017 12:00

Ii think I could take Ruth being more miserable than usual over pip being around at all

AuntyElle · 25/11/2017 12:22

Imbroglio Grin

birdsdestiny · 25/11/2017 12:37

What do we think the story is with Alfie then? Is he the 'real' farmer ( as opposed to Toby) who she will settle down with and produce the next generation with. Don't know why I am asking, I don't have the energy to care.

BoreOfWhabylon · 25/11/2017 13:08

Hang on, this milking parlour...

I may be misremembering here, but didn't they revamp the milking parlour after they decided against the Great Move North? They were going to have a super-whizzy milking thingy oop north but then when they decided to stay re-did the Brookfield one instead.

Does anyone else remember this?

Ghostontoast · 25/11/2017 13:12

Did Ruth spend her any if her £500k from the Archers’ Legacy Fairy on new kit?

C8H10N4O2 · 25/11/2017 15:03

As a frequent listener to Money Box and You and Yours that rang horribly true.

I think Christine's story is horribly realistic. My DM could describe contemporaries defrauded in similar ways - none of the stupid, deceived by quite sophisticated fraudsters or what was effectively mis selling but impossible to prove.

Christine feeling guilty and stupid is also typical and a big problem in itself. I hope she gets some money back but for realism it would make more sense if she didn't.

C8H10N4O2 · 25/11/2017 15:20

Considering how any major decision in the past has been made by David/Jill/formerlyPhil and Ruth has been reminded that its David's farm why would she? But if its all for Pip well yes it makes sense. Josh/Ben presumably can whistle for any thing out of either set of grandparents estates.

BertrandRussell · 25/11/2017 15:25

Don't they have a robot milker?

ppeatfruit · 25/11/2017 15:26

I hope that Freddie is doing French GCSE his accent was good! I like that "doigt des poisson avec feves en sauce tomate" Was my ds's fave but with petits pois!

Oh and did anyone else wonder whether the Soers Heureuse's "cannelles" Were brandy snaps and cream or quenelles (savoury oval shaped fishy things!!)

ppeatfruit · 25/11/2017 15:27

Bert They looked at robot milkers didn't they ? They were too expensive IIRC.
