Discuss The Archers here, the long-running thread series started by PseudoBadger. Maybe my puns will tempt her back to take the reigns?

I think Sleeping Beauty references can wait until the next thread which will probably cover much of December.

Lurkers de-lurk! New to The Archers? you're welcome here; the friendly crowd will answer your questions.

Just read the synopsis and sounds like a good episode - despite Lizzies death not being mentioned!!!!

Gruach · 23/11/2017 19:46

Shock Of course Elizabeth isn't dead!

Lots of peeps hovering around the Bull and the Village Hall. (Think it was the Village Hall ...) Late at night.

TheAntiBoop · 23/11/2017 19:50

Wishful thinking....

Vango · 23/11/2017 19:52

I might be glad I missed it Wink. Something else for her to moan about in the next few months.

AuntyElle · 23/11/2017 19:57

Boop to that episode.

EBearhug · 24/11/2017 01:11

Robert's great.

Lynda was uncharacteristically nasty, I thought. She used to be quite supportive of people like Emma and Kirsty, and I would have expected her to accept Robert's defeat with a bit more grace.

Imbroglio · 24/11/2017 04:35

Loved it that Emma won by 3 votes. So she would have won without Robert's vote.

BertrandRussell · 24/11/2017 08:49

Linda's character transplant continues.

extinctspecies · 24/11/2017 09:02

Didn't listen last night but I see that my prediction many weeks ago - that Emma would win by a very slim margin - was correct.

Has anyone ever known a parish council election campaign be so protracted and contentious? Where I live if there are 2 people vying for the post, each makes a 2-minute statement to the other councillors and they vote. Only elected by the electorate if there are other elections going on at the same time.

Bekabeech · 24/11/2017 09:16

I loved that Episode. Nick and Emma’s friendship is great. I still hold hopes that Nick becomes a TA or even a teacher.
Robert is lovely and Linda needs to get her equilibrium back - maybe if Alan has to beg her to help.

LillianGish · 24/11/2017 09:55

Wonderful episode - BOOP, BOOP, BOOP. Drama from everyday village affairs - much more satisfactory than melodramatic attempted murders and unbelievable Ponzi schemes.

LillianGish · 24/11/2017 09:58

I think Lynda’s ‘character transplant’ stems from Emma’s rival being Robert and a feeling of being expendable regarding the village Panto. She’s feeling sidelined - even though she effectively sidelined herself.

LillianGish · 24/11/2017 09:59

Lynda’s always had a spiky side - she needs to feel indispensable and loved.

Puremince · 24/11/2017 11:26

I agree with LillianGish; I don't think Lynda has had a character transplant. She would always have championed Robert over anyone.

TheAntiBoop · 24/11/2017 12:29

She seemed a lot nastier than usual
I predict Alan engineers for her to have to swoop in and save the day

lionguard · 24/11/2017 12:37

Lynda was the same last summer when Emma and Fallon organised the village fete

ppeatfruit · 24/11/2017 12:43

But she luuurves Robert and was backing his candidature. She was peeed off, she hasn't had a character change. She seems to be driven by ego too and her ego has had a battering because she's not getting the reflected glory that directing the panto gives her. As LilianGish says.

BitOutOfPractice · 24/11/2017 15:27

Lynda always used to be a rather abrasive character in years gone by. I think the new kitten soft Lyndy is the character transplant. Last night we saw a flash of the old Lynda.

Halsall · 24/11/2017 17:07

Doesn't Lynda usually swoop in and save the day, panto-wise? We're supposed to be on tenterhooks as to whether she will or not Hmm. Fine, whatever, just wake me up when it's all over.

Every now and then I'm given a sharp reminder of why I really dislike Lyndie-pops, and yesterday's ep was one such occasion. She was so gratuitously nasty.

LillianGish · 24/11/2017 17:54

I think the vicar taking over the panto is a brilliant plot. Lynda doesn't believe anyone else can do it and more importantly doesn't want anyone else to be able to do it. She wants everyone to appreciate what a massive effort she"s been making year after year. She couldn't bear to hear the vicar telling her how easy it would be as it made her feel as though her massive input over previous years had gone unnoticed and as if it counted for nothing. She felt she'd been enormously generous in offering him her Sleeping Beauty script - it also allowed her to claim a substantial input. Now he's rejected that she feels even more sidelined. She reminds me of someone over-invested in their job who believes the place will fall apart if they leave and then hands in their notice only for the realisation to dawn that actually no-one is that indispensable and that someone steps into their shoes and life goes on without them. She doesn't want to produce the pantomime again, but she doesn't want anyone to manage it without her (and certainly not without her script!) The vicar has bitten off more than he can chew, especially at his busiest time of year, but I'm sure he'll struggle through somehow - and he'll have a far greater appreciation of Lynda as a result. This is not high drama - but it is the drama of an English village and I love the fact that it comes about because of what we know about the characters and does not rely on a random event and someone behaving out of character.

WineAndTiramisu · 24/11/2017 19:25

I wonder if no one ever told Christine not to put all her eggs in one basket...

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 24/11/2017 19:30

As a frequent listener to Money Box and You and Yours that rang horribly true.

Imbroglio · 24/11/2017 19:35

Weren't Peggy and Justin there at grey gables when Hugh Melling was doing his presentation? I think Peggy ate Christine's cake or something.

echt · 24/11/2017 21:08

Having listened to this morning's (for me in Au) episode, I'm wondering where the money for the new re-furbed/Grand Designs milking parlour is coming from when Ruth and David need to compensate others for the plague-ridden cows. Pip falls on her feet. Again.

And as for Adam saying Ian had "all the hard work to do" for the sperm testing, I needed some serious brain bleach thinking of him knocking one out. I wonder what mags he'd be given to encourage him?

Mootsie · 24/11/2017 21:19

If Ian can't summon up enough energy to even think about finding another surrogate just because he's got to plan a few menus, whatever sort of father is he going to make? He's always busy/anxious/stressed/feeling sorry for himself.

Get a grip, Ian.
