Discuss The Archers here, the long-running thread series started by PseudoBadger. Maybe my puns will tempt her back to take the reigns?

I think Sleeping Beauty references can wait until the next thread which will probably cover much of December.

Lurkers de-lurk! New to The Archers? you're welcome here; the friendly crowd will answer your questions.

Ian has become a terrific bore but it is plausible. I don't mind the Roy /Lexie story. I like Lexie although it was implausible that she would have sat in on the conversation with Roy and Ian about work.

So far as Justin and Lil it was highly improbable he would have fallen for her.

I don't really see the need for him to use her to inveigle his way into Borsetshire society. The Archer family are fair to middling to successful farmers. They are not landed gentry/aristocrats. Their land was bought by grandfathers (?) of the current lot.

In real life Justin Elliott would fit in with /do deals with/ be a part of the local farming community simply by being there and behaving like part of the local farming community. He wouldn't need a Lillian to smooth his path.

Gruach · 19/11/2017 14:14

Aren't we supposed to believe that Justin really did want Lilian for herself? He didn't need an in to Ambridge society - all the Social Secretary nonsense was just a cover for the shagging. (Ohhh Caroliiiiiiiiiiine. Sad Come back!)

It's just a pity that being bested in love brings out all his worst traits.

Minimammoth · 19/11/2017 16:08

Oh dear Grauch, I am afraid I have become a grumpy old cynic. Anyone would think it’s not just a made up story😉

TheAntiBoop · 19/11/2017 19:09

Alan was quite rude to Lynda considering he knows how seriously she takes it

TheAntiBoop · 19/11/2017 19:15

Alan is quite patronising

Poor auntie Chris but that can't be all her money - unless she is lying....

Which i guess is where this is going

Minimammoth · 19/11/2017 20:04

Haven’t listened yet but could this mean penniless Christine and homeless Lillian living with.....Peggy.

ppeatfruit · 19/11/2017 21:03

Yes it can Anti She just sold her house didn't she?

Puremince · 19/11/2017 21:27

Auntie Christine has gone to bed with a headache, following a nasty shock. She 85 (86 next month). This does not bode well.

TopOfTheCliff · 19/11/2017 21:37

The house was valued at £250000 so even if she dropped the price a bit for Fallon and Carpet she would still have around £200000 left minus the Cricket changing shed costs. I can't see why she would lie to Peggy and Lilian apart from embarrassment.

Mootsie · 19/11/2017 23:14

Harrison = Carpet?

I must be living a sheltered life. I had to work it out. Grin Grin

ppeatfruit · 20/11/2017 09:44

Sorry Anti I'm being dense . So we are supposed to think she HAS invested the rest of her money but she hates being thought a fool by everyone . I get it now (it took a while! It must be the weather)

Grin I still don't get Harrison [duh] Is there a carpet named after him (or is he named after a carpet ?)

Puremince · 20/11/2017 09:58

It's a joke about his surname - Burns.

ppeatfruit · 20/11/2017 10:00

OH!!! silly me, thanks Puremince Hmm

Puremince · 20/11/2017 11:04

You obviously have a cleaner mind than me, ppeat! Wink

Swannykazoo · 20/11/2017 12:14

So why would Lexi be in the (assistant to the) manager's chat with an employee? Surely she's a recently employeed cleaner, not super assistant manager?

Gruach · 20/11/2017 12:17

I think she's employed in a rather more exalted position at GG Swanny. Though I can't remember what, exactly.

EBearhug · 20/11/2017 12:18

Something to do with front of house, I think.

Swannykazoo · 20/11/2017 12:41

OOps. Must have missed that scintillating bit somehow. Still seemed a bit like a pile on calling for Ian to open a "dignity at work" complaint

RolfNotRudolf · 20/11/2017 12:41

I know nothing about hospitality mgmt structures but I assumed she is maitre d'?

robinR · 20/11/2017 12:43

Lexi is maitre D I think, to replace that one they kept moaning about what was rubbish.

ppeatfruit · 20/11/2017 13:58

Pure Well now you've got me thinking and I'm not sure I want to! You're right I'm old fashioned I suppose, well I'm getting on a bit (that's my excuse) !

Cromwell1536 · 20/11/2017 16:37

Aargh, that remark about Carpet Burns has sparked a flashback of something buried for over thirty years. Cheap carpets in a nasty rental in Leicester...no wonder that relationship broke up...

AuntyElle · 20/11/2017 18:59

“Cheap carpets in a nasty rental in Leicester...”
That’s, er, very evocative, Cromwell. Good timez, eh?

Gruach · 20/11/2017 19:16

Homeless!

Sad
Cromwell1536 · 20/11/2017 19:24

Aunty, the neighbourhood looked like somewhere you'd find Readers' Wives. I ran like the wind. Jeez.

Justin: "Are you completely stupid???"
Lillian: "Yes."
