Discuss The Archers here, the long-running thread series started by PseudoBadger. Maybe my puns will tempt her back to take the reigns?

I think Sleeping Beauty references can wait until the next thread which will probably cover much of December.

Lurkers de-lurk! New to The Archers? you're welcome here; the friendly crowd will answer your questions.

"find the constant references to "wedding planning" really annoying. FFS, it's a while since I got married but I'm pretty sure that organising the wedding did not occupy me 24 hours a day & wasn't the sole topic of conversation with other people."

Remind me to introduce you to my sil.........Grin. Two years it took. Two bloody years.

FFS, it's a while since I got married but I'm pretty sure that organising the wedding did not occupy me 24 hours a day & wasn't the sole topic of conversation with other people

I have dear friends with whom I've almost gone NC over this. Months if not years of no other topic of conversation and obsessing over utter trivia. If I hadn't loved them to bits at the start we would not have survived it!

C8H10N4O2 · 18/11/2017 09:34

All part of the tv soapification of Ambridge. Most unsatisfactory.

Yes I agree utterly.

Hence my prediction is that now Lilian knows that Christine has been scammed by Matt of her life savings she will engage Justin in some mysterious business side of investigations.

Justin will get (most) of Christine's money back, Matt will end up in pokey or Ecuador and it will be done just it time for the mythical December wedding on the radiotimes

Or I could be a meringue.

BertrandRussell · 18/11/2017 09:43

"Or I could be a meringue."

You're obviously a cake.......

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 18/11/2017 10:42

Yes I think it is gearing up to Lillian persuading Matt to do something. Although what I have no idea.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 18/11/2017 10:55

And once again, the inhabitants of Ambridge appear to be completely unaware of the existence of lawyers and financial advisors. Or the Internet

This bit is so weird. In real life the demographic of the majority of Ambridge residents is the sort of people for whom contacting a lawyer or a financial advisor is no different from contacting a plumber or a mechanic or any other tradesperson when need arises.

TheAntiBoop · 18/11/2017 11:12

Christine strikes me as the kind of person who would believe the safest place to store her money is under her mattress.

ppeatfruit · 18/11/2017 11:32

Christine fell for Hugo Melling at the GG (ha and it was about the gee gees Grin) meeting though didn't she? Kept it quiet though.

robinR · 18/11/2017 11:40

If Christine put thousands in an investment on the strength of one persons recommendation and without consulting a financial adviser, she deserves to lose it!

Gruach · 18/11/2017 11:41

Brilliant - I now have an advert for Safe Deposit Boxes - right under AntiBoop's mattress.

HmmGrin

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 18/11/2017 12:06

I've got Laing's diamond rings. It makes a nice change from men's thin silk boxers which has been plaguing me for a while. No idea what I posted made the connection.

R4 · 18/11/2017 12:14

I got M&S men's velvet jackets after that discussion about DJs.

ppeatfruit · 18/11/2017 13:03

Cookies are why I sometimes HATE the internet. Iam soo anti adverts .

TopOfTheCliff · 18/11/2017 13:38

The wedding planning is irritating. "Ooh Jennifer why haven't you chosen your outfit when there's only two months to go?" Well maybe normal people don't actually obsess about clothes all day! Although Jennifer isn't exactly a normal person.
I think it is highlighting the uncertainty over whether Justin will come round in the nick of time and everything will be lovely after all. Or Lilian will look a total idiot entirely of her own making.
And with Aunty Cardboard and the cruise we are getting more invested as she gets excited about it. Whereas most people would want to see the voucher and the Terms and Conditions before they chose a date or a route etc. So the crushing disappointment is greater than it would have been if she was sensible.
Anybody would think it is being done for maximum dramatic effect!

Minimammoth · 18/11/2017 14:43

There will no doubt be a one way ticket to Costa Rica, in the post for Lillian on the wedding day.

ppeatfruit · 18/11/2017 17:08

A lot of so called sensible people are taken in by well presented (and not so well presented ) scams. Obviously Christine thought it SEEMED a good bet. It was in Grey Gables after all!!

The main thing I remember from my commerce O level was that stocks can go up and down. So a mugs' game.

I always think if you're gambling on anything you only have yourself to blame if it goes tits up.

GrumpyOldBag · 18/11/2017 17:14

If something seems too good to be true ... it usually is.

ppeatfruit · 18/11/2017 17:16

Yes exactly Grumpy Grin

Minimammoth · 19/11/2017 10:58

It sounds like Justin is relieved at finding a good reason to get rid of Lillian, maybe he only wanted the dower house after all.

AuntyElle · 19/11/2017 10:58

Good god, Lexi has become extremely annoying. She wasn’t this bad before she got the GG job. The Ian/Roy/Lexi stuff is awful. Seems very out of character for Ian too.
Wish they would go back to having a clear picture of a character and letting that drive the plot. The plots these character volte-faces are enabling are often pointless anyway. Characters under buses for nothing.

SoMuchToBits · 19/11/2017 11:44

Mini, that's what I thought about Justin all along. He was only interested in Lillian for her money/property.

BertrandRussell · 19/11/2017 12:13

Justin is dodgy as fuck.

TheAntiBoop · 19/11/2017 12:31

It makes no sense for him to be interested in her money. He just bought the dower house without blinking and lil didn't have much else

He's bored I should imagine - the mistresses charm wears off when she's not hopelessly devoted

He may well be dodgy for other reasons but I don't think it's money he's after. It would make no sense given his history

BertrandRussell · 19/11/2017 13:00

I don't think he's after her money. Not sure what he's up to, but it's definitely sonething.

I think he thought she would give him respectability and a swift "in" to Borsetshire society and business community. For some nefarious purpose.

ppeatfruit · 19/11/2017 13:22

Aunty Ian is obsessed with having a baby, he's changed (become grumpy) because he thinks his dreams have been shattered. That sort of thing happens in RL. IMO and E.
