Discuss The Archers here, the long-running thread series started by PseudoBadger. Maybe my puns will tempt her back to take the reigns?

I think Sleeping Beauty references can wait until the next thread which will probably cover much of December.

Lurkers de-lurk! New to The Archers? you're welcome here; the friendly crowd will answer your questions.

R4 yes it doesn't surprise me, my old TA book has her as a bit of a teen tearaway!

JessieMcJessie · 16/11/2017 10:30

I get the sense that auntie Cardboard actress doesn’t act anywhere else, does she? I imagine she’s more of the ones who does it on the side with a non-showbiz life/career.

Thanks for the blog post re Lilian and Paul. I think I was on a listening break when they first met so only remembered the actual affair later when Matt was out of prison.

I caught up on two episodes last night. Rather enjoyed Justin being properly arsed with Lilian, she does deserve it. Though perhaps the “my house” stuff was a little bit much.

Her IMDb is a bit, ahem, sparse. It mentions a TV series of Sherlock in 1965. And then says she "is much in demand for voice-over work. Ironically for such a strikingly attractive woman she has been heard rather than seen through much of her entire career!"

DadDadDad · 16/11/2017 10:49

As R4 clearly can't be arsed, here's the link to Christine's IMDB page. "Known for Sherlock Holmes (1964)" - yes, I'm sure lots of people remember her in that... Hmm

Lesley Saweard

I didn't link because I forgot to reference my sources there isn't much there!
Have a link to longest-serving instead.Smile

Did a major catch up on Wednesday but still reckon the bit from "he might die" to "I'm going to discharge myself and fly to Ecuador" was ridiculously fast.

That's the Ambridge health fairy in action, that is. There have been more than a few miracle cures over the years. I reckon they got rid of Bethany because even TA scriptwriters realised they couldn't get away with repairing her gene structure overnight.

OuaisMaisBon · 16/11/2017 13:56

Ceto - The Ambridge Trisomy 21 fairy has a certain ring to it Grin

cheminotte · 16/11/2017 14:35

I would have said June Spencer (ok June Somebody aka Peggy).
I think it would be unfair to expect Emma to man the speed camera. She has 3 jobs already and 2 kids plus an elderly FIL.

ppeatfruit · 16/11/2017 15:20

Aaah leave Auntie Cardboard alone, all of the luvvies can't be from acting dynasties.

AuldHeathen · 16/11/2017 15:55

Nitpicking coming up! In fact it’s ClarrieLuv that’s got the weak and feeble (and very irritating) FIL. Emmerich is another generation away.

AuldHeathen · 16/11/2017 16:00

Actually Emmerich is a one-horse town in Germany, on the NL border. At least the only time l was there, l saw only one horse. Of course l meant Emmur. I was a bit disappointed the IMDB bods couldn’t rustle up a photo of the strikingly beautiful Lesley Seaward.

cheminotte · 16/11/2017 16:23

Ok, GPIL! But being female I bet she does more care than Ed, Eddie, or Will.

JessieMcJessie · 16/11/2017 16:30

Actually there’s quite nice story about Auntie Cardboard actress Lesley Seaward on the Archers website, says that she had done a bit of an dram and was sent to the station pick up the actor who played Jacob archer to open the fete in her very rural village. He said she sounded just like the actress who was playing Christine then and so when that actress left she got a call to audition! Audiences didn’t even notice that the actress had changed apparently.

JessieMcJessie · 16/11/2017 16:31

Jack, not Jacob!

AuldHeathen · 16/11/2017 17:21

Actually, cheminotte, l think it’s Clarrie that does most the care Joe needs, certainly his nutritional needs!

In Lincoln at the conference we were told something about Lesley Seaward. Was she from the village we went to on the Friday, or was that another village.? Rippindale, l think.

R4 · 16/11/2017 18:46

I think that Lesley Saweard is the most shy and retiring luvvie I have ever come across. I can't find much on her at all!
She comes from LIncolnshire but I can't pin it down further than that. I found this (see p16) but it only tells us where her nephew came from, not her..
It was Rippingale that we went to.

AuldHeathen · 16/11/2017 20:37

Rippingale, of course. I need to look at my mug more often, not just drink out of it. Smile

TheAntiBoop · 16/11/2017 20:46

Ian is a brat

Roy and Lexie are Bleurgh. Hard to take after the Hayley debacle

RockNRollNerd · 17/11/2017 09:14

The Paul story line was shoe horned in to give them the basis for the Amex plot with them all caught up with Russian gangsters as the show down of “you was sleepin wiv my bruvver” sent Matt off boozing with Vladdy. Even if they’d had Tom Hardy as Alfie Solomons saving the day rather than Lil and Bren they couldn’t have saved that particular story line.

ppeatfruit · 17/11/2017 10:06

Aaaah I got quite teary at Roy and Lexi's admissions of love, it was sweet!
Also Ed helping Johnny like that, I don't remember that J was doing the hedging too. A good turn and all that, it'll give Ed more work. It isn't all dramatics.

AuntyElle · 17/11/2017 10:11

Agreed, Boop for Ed and Jonny.Smile
But Barf for Rexi.

TheAntiBoop · 17/11/2017 10:45

A declaration of love from Roy this early is not a good sign tbh

And Lexie is a poor substitute for Hayley

They could have shoehorned in 'token Eastern European hard worker who will face brexit problems' another way

R4 · 17/11/2017 11:02

Grr at Roy. He can declare his love for Lexi if he wants, but he should do it without ranking/comparison especially when it's unfavourable to Saint Hayley. I have just finished reading The Pursuit of Love and I find (to my astonishment!) Roy's relationships are a good parallel for Linda's with the poor one, the rich one and the foreign one.

"[The latest one] was the great love of her life, you know"
"Oh, darling," said my mother sadly, "One always thinks that. Every, every time."

Fink · 17/11/2017 11:25

To be fair to Roy (not that I've forgiven him for cheating on Hayley, but let's try to be fair for a moment), his relationship with Hayley is definitively over, there's no way he's getting her back, so he might as well start a new relationship. And the way to proceed in a new relationship is almost certainly not to say 'I love you so much. Not quite as much as my ex, you'll never be as wonderful as her. I was an idiot to throw that away, but I still love you so much, you're amazing.'

R4 · 17/11/2017 11:31

"I love you" suffices.
Lexi is not an ingenue. They both have previous relationships, with resulting children. No need to over-egg the quiche (as Lexi would say). "I love you" suffices, especially at this early stage.
