The Archers: Will Lillian decide what MATTers JUST IN time? Discussion #82

DadDadDad · 31/10/2017 12:47

Discuss The Archers here, the long-running thread series started by PseudoBadger. Maybe my puns will tempt her back to take the reigns?

I think Sleeping Beauty references can wait until the next thread which will probably cover much of December.

Lurkers de-lurk! New to The Archers? you're welcome here; the friendly crowd will answer your questions.

I think he's just a businessman

Let's not forget the time he "paid off" Stefan to make him disappear before anyone got wind of the fact that Berrow/Rob had a large part to play in the flood.

Halsall · 15/11/2017 10:24

Whatever Justin's pros and cons, he's got a damn cheek talking about 'his' house in such a lordly fashion. He's owned it for about 5 minutes and he knows full well that it was Lillian's home before he ever set (a no-doubt-expensively-shod) foot in Ambridge. This isn't a marriage, it's a business takeover. Or maybe not, if he continues to strop.

I hold no brief for Lillian, I can't stand the cackling and the gin-swigging, but she deserves better than be begging the odious Justin for forgiveness.

Mootsie · 15/11/2017 10:31

At least Lilian made the right decision in hanging on to Amside. She'll probably need one of those houses before long.

robinR · 15/11/2017 10:34

But he was in prison at the time. It wasn't a "normal" relationship at that point

R4 · 15/11/2017 10:39

I agree with the first but not the second. I would be extremely miffed if my OH put their ex before me, especially after I had warned asked them not to. A bit of help for old times' sake is one thing; a 24/7 vigil is too much of another. The excuse of "Matt had nobody else to turn to" does not wash.

JessieMcJessie · 15/11/2017 10:39

I don’t think the affair was when Matt was in prison. May be wrong though.

RolfNotRudolf · 15/11/2017 10:46

Are we supposed to care about the Will They Won't They lead up to the wedding date? And does anyone care?

Halsall · 15/11/2017 10:57

R4 I don't for one moment think she should have had anything to do with the awful Matt either! I think both her love interests are dire and she'd be better off on her own, frankly. They're both players and users.

But as Lillian herself would probably say, she's a 'girl who needs a man to look after her' ugh

robinR · 15/11/2017 11:08

I thought Lilian turned to Paul when Matt was in prison but I could be wrong.

I want Lilian and Justin to end up together! I'm rooting for a Christmas wedding :)

RolfNotRudolf · 15/11/2017 11:16

Re Matt's activities - maybe money laundering?

Cromwell1536 · 15/11/2017 11:30

Another one who dislikes Justin, but then, I'm not the one who chose to get engaged to him. Lillian, having done so, (and more fool her) should have understood that there was no way on earth that Justin was going to meekly tolerate the bedside vigil and ongoing help in full view of family and The Village. Actually, I don't blame Justin for being pissed off: if my betrothed said to me, "Look, you've done your bit, but now this tragic sickbed vigil is just weird and hurtful and it's making me believe that you still have at the least an emotional attachment, so I really don't want you to do it any more. Please spend the day with me instead and reassure me that we have a future that isn't overshadowed by the past." And then my beloved completely ignored me, I think I'd be calling time on it as well. Lillian's a liar, trying to outwit a liar, and I wish the horrible dishonest pair would just FOTTFSOF.

R4 · 15/11/2017 11:43

Ugh indeed. But if she must have a man to look after her then she ought to choose her men a lot better!

Mootsie · 15/11/2017 11:53

Phillip seems to be a very well connected builder so maybe Lilian will move on to him next.

Halsall · 15/11/2017 12:32

But if she must have a man to look after her then she ought to choose her men a lot better!

We're in total agreement then, R4 Grin

Vango · 15/11/2017 13:27

The pair of them (Justin and Matt) are equally slippery as far as I'm concerned.

If Lillian has to end up with one of them, then I'd rather see her with Matt. Though it's clearly no longer on the cards. He's presumably now wanted by both the police and Hugo Melling (not to mention Latif) so I can't see how he'll ever be able to return to Ambridge.

In the meantime, Justin can now kick her out of her home if he chooses to and presumably no-one will blame him. Her only option can be to marry him (if he agrees) and live a miserable life with the horrible bully. She'll be a shadow of her former self.

Vango · 15/11/2017 13:29

If the wedding's off then I'm guessing it's back to Brian and Jennifer's?

What are the chances of Lillian's finances being frozen (as a result of Matt's repayment).

Minimammoth · 15/11/2017 15:17

Lillian’s going to prison. She and Helen can then set up the Ambridge Old Lags Rehab Centre.

PrincessFiorimonde · 15/11/2017 15:35

Gosh, yes, this.

Can Susan join?

She did. I wasn't listening then but I'm sure it was discussed on these threads, which I think were started when she 'reconnected' with Paul! Wasn't the first thread called 'What is Lillian thinking?' or similar? Anyway I digress a bit. I think she came close to running off into the sunset with Paul when Matt was in clink. Not even sure they DTD. I can't for the life of me remember how and why he reappeared in her life, but they definitely DTD then.

Vango · 15/11/2017 16:44

Lillian and Paul. The whole sorry saga.

robinR · 15/11/2017 16:52

Wasn't he killed in a road accident on the way to picking her up to run off together?

robinR · 15/11/2017 16:53

Sorry Vango just realised I totally ignored your link!

Vango · 15/11/2017 17:19

Paul had a 'heart attack' and was found dead in a hotel room.
