The Archers: Will Lillian decide what MATTers JUST IN time? Discussion #82

DadDadDad · 31/10/2017 12:47

Discuss The Archers here, the long-running thread series started by PseudoBadger. Maybe my puns will tempt her back to take the reigns?

I think Sleeping Beauty references can wait until the next thread which will probably cover much of December.

Lurkers de-lurk! New to The Archers? you're welcome here; the friendly crowd will answer your questions.

I'm assuming a two tier scam - where he knowingly works for a sham company, but is himself ripping off the company. Does that make sense?

That was my feeling this morning, when I listened to the whole thing.

I also got the feeling that Lillian's woken up to the fact that Matt's scams are in a new league now and that they're something just too dangerous to be a part of. She sounds weary of him and his life of crime. Now that it's reached the level of life-threatening, I think she's decided that Justin offers a safer retirement.

R4 · 12/11/2017 11:00

Now that it's reached the level of life-threatening, I think she's decided that Justin offers a safer retirement.

But that's assuming that Justin still wants to be involved with someone who is, effectively, a gangster's moll. If he had any sense, he'd run a mile.
I agree that Matt is scamming the scammers.

Vango · 12/11/2017 11:18

I'm sure Justin will have his own views about their future. I just meant that Lillian is starting to sound like she's made her own mind up. I don't want her to end up with Justin though, if it's still an option.

BoreOfWhabylon · 12/11/2017 11:20

This is not exactly a Mystic Boreâ„¢ prediction (the crystal is murky at the mo), but I think this will end with Matt being banged up in prison. This will effectively write him out of the series. Lillian will realise she lurves him warts and all so will end things with Justin, who will leave Ambridge.

We will then have years, possibly forever, of Lils visiting Matt off air and getting on with life in the meantime.

Alternatively, they will write Matt out good and proper by killing him off as he tries to flee the country (side-effects of accident). Lils will be desolated as she realises she loves him warts and all, etc. and Justin will be out of the picture.

Matt and Justin both leaving, whatever the eventual scenario.

Gruach · 12/11/2017 11:52

Yes ... Much as I love Matt as a character I suspect he's been brought back for a definitive exit. (I want to see him grow old as a loving and mischievous grandfather to Mungo - but am schooling myself for disappointment.)

I see there's a snippet of TA talk on Feedback tonight. Did ayone hear it on Friday?

Imbroglio · 12/11/2017 11:52

The racecourse project looked dodgy to me the moment Matt said he was buying horses. Surely the racecourse is only a decent business proposition if there are already racehorse owners in the catchment area willing to race their horses.

ppeatfruit · 12/11/2017 11:59

I know what Shula was doing, she dashed back to the stables to forge the horsey documents for Matt because he had been blackmailing her Having seen her DTD with Phil Grin . Far fetched? Not really, compared with the plot of TA now!

Vango · 12/11/2017 12:12

I think Shula's just feeling guilty about her 'heart to heart' on the terrace with Philip (while Alistair was looking for her)?

GrumpyOldBag · 12/11/2017 13:28

Gruach i heard most of the Feedback segment on the Archers - basically had one person on who hates the new Matt - Lilian - Justin storyline saying it was like a cross between a bad Agatha Christie and a pantomime, and another who was enjoying it. Not very illuminating.

AuldHeathen · 12/11/2017 13:37

It’s okay, Gruach, l don’t seriously believe the SWs don’t know who dunnit. I am a little irritated by how they seem to be going round and round the houses though.

Am l the only listener who thinks in Ambridge it’s only Jim and Robert who talk about shags? Grin

KingscoteStaff · 12/11/2017 19:10

Go Lillian!

partystress · 12/11/2017 19:17

Delurking to say YEEEESSSS, at blooming last!

TheAntiBoop · 12/11/2017 19:17

That was pathetic

Months ago Justin said he was going to find out what Matt was up to but didn't manage what Lillian did in two days. It wasn't exactly a panorama level expose and the fraud itself was of the 'pretty bleeding obvious' variety. Although good point of pp that the horse thing doesn't make sense

Vango · 12/11/2017 19:25

I found that a bit sad. I guess HKJ had to go with "Matt as unredeemable criminal" after his inexplicable departure storyline. He was never that bad before SoC.

Not that I particularly care much but what's the bigger scam? Presumably the racehorse owners aren't parting with their horses until they've got cash in their hands? Or are gullible rich people investing large sums in the racecourse itself?

Finally, I thought other people knew of Hugo Melling? I'm sure Justin does?

TeenTimesTwo · 12/11/2017 19:31

I take it I need to listen tomorrow lunchtime?

Ghostontoast · 12/11/2017 19:50

What if the Police think that LIlian had a role in the fraud - after all she did book Matt's room at GG after the accident and got him a mobile phone, plus she interceded with Chinese Lantern's owner.

After Cameron Frazer, who would have thought there would be another con man in Ambridge!

Vango · 12/11/2017 20:25

What, exactly, is Lillian going to report? Presumably Matt bought Chinese Lantern and paid Mena £10k. Why should Lillian care about Melling Equestrian and its business? Does she know anyone who's likely to lose money? And all she's got is a PO Box address?

TheAntiBoop · 12/11/2017 20:38

She didn't actually have to give him an hours head start

She called 101 to report a fraud on a Sunday - the police aren't actually going to be round to speak with her until a week on Tuesday so Matt has plenty of time to scarper

Vango · 12/11/2017 20:42

But what's she going to say? That there's a company pretending to set up a racecourse and some people may have been conned into investing? Or that said company thinks it's buying premium livestock but that Matt has spent less on past-it horses?

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 12/11/2017 20:55

I'm enjoying this. Anything which doesn't have Pip in it is good.

Vango · 12/11/2017 21:02

Drat, you've reminded me of Pip's existence Lass! Why is Rickyard empty. And why is it reserved for the precious one? Josh isn't allowed any office space and got kicked off his computer at the kitchen table when Jill was baking/cooking. Couldn't they let him into the cottage while Pip is settling herself in at LL? Why can't they let her go? It's weird!

jinglebitch · 12/11/2017 23:02

They were renting Rickyard out as a holiday let to make back the £20 odd quid it apparently cost Tony and Brian to vaccinate their herds, treat them, and buy a whole load of new cows. Now they've made the money back it's free again.
(Longtime lurker. Might change my name if i post again as it's a bit vicious for this thread. But it's only a Friends reference, nothing really mean)

TheAntiBoop · 12/11/2017 23:11

I assumed it was free because no one would want a farm stay in November!

Vango · 13/11/2017 07:34

Sorry, badly worded. I know why it's free (massive IBR debt repaid, penance done etc). What I meant was why is the empty cottage Pip's by default and lying empty awaiting her return? Why hasn't it been offered to 20 year old Josh? She's going to have Brookfield eventually so why doesn't she just move back to her room there when she's had enough of Lower Loxley. Annoys me a lot.
