DadDadDad · 31/10/2017 12:47

Discuss The Archers here, the long-running thread series started by PseudoBadger. Maybe my puns will tempt her back to take the reigns?

I think Sleeping Beauty references can wait until the next thread which will probably cover much of December.

Lurkers de-lurk! New to The Archers? you're welcome here; the friendly crowd will answer your questions.

But what was it that made the police decide this was attempted murder? Obviously, they've known all along that someone hit Matt and drove off

Probably all the tyre marks they were investigating.

TheAntiBoop · 11/11/2017 13:42

Wasn't it raining? And a busy stretch with the ball on. So a lot of the tyre marks would be compromised?

I reckon Harrison has his spider senses twitching. But as he is such a crap copper it will end up just being old Doris from hollerton who happened to be going for a drive that night

ppeatfruit · 11/11/2017 13:53

Yes Anti Also he was found IN A DITCH!!!! How many taxi drivers would be looking in ditches? The sw's have written themselves an unsolvable mystery Grin

AuldHeathen · 11/11/2017 15:52

Haven’t we heard both that Matt was in the ditch and in the hedge? He couldn’t be in both - unless the hedge was growing in the ditch in which case there wouldn’t be much space for Matt. I suspect the writes don’t know who dunnit either.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 11/11/2017 16:01

Hopefully Lillian will tell the police what she knows but that wouldn't be very dramatic so I'm sure she will keep it secret for some reason...

Any odds on the reason being a plot device to allow Lillian to be threatened by any of the heavy people from whom Matt is presumably hiding ? I suppose that could effect a reconciliation with Justin.

WineAndTiramisu · 12/11/2017 00:41

I just don't understand how it can have been on purpose, no one knew where he was, and it was dark, it must've been an accident?

Now we know there's no racecourse, I'm wondering where the horses have gone? It's all a bit odd.

Gruach · 12/11/2017 08:34

I suspect the writers don’t know who dunnit either.

Shock

No. That would be too depressing. I'm sure they know exactly where they're going.

Confused
birdsdestiny · 12/11/2017 08:44

It's obviously not shula. I assume that overcome with her hunt ball triumph, she has a quick shag with Philip and now feels a bit guilty. Am I allowed to say what on here Smile

birdsdestiny · 12/11/2017 08:45

say shag that should have said. I have had to say it twice now Blush

ppeatfruit · 12/11/2017 08:59

birdsdestiny It's funny, this thread is a rather polite one. We sometimes say DTD (do the deed) in place of shag. Though there's no rule against it!

ppeatfruit · 12/11/2017 09:01

But i don't think I got THOSE sort of vibes from Shula and Phil when they had a sandwich recently!

Though he does sound HOT!

glamorousgrandmother · 12/11/2017 09:06

Yes Anti Also he was found IN A DITCH!!!! How many taxi drivers would be looking in ditches?

Probably not many but my friends FiL who had Alzheimer's wandered off and was found in a ditch by a taxi driver. I digress ...

SoMuchToBits · 12/11/2017 09:17

The horses will have mysteriously disappeared like Shergar, never to be seen again unless in a Tesco lasagne.

Maybe it will be another unsolved horse disappearance mystery, like Caroline's horse Ippy, which disappeared years and years and years ago, and was never found.

Ceto · 12/11/2017 09:58

We'd have had the slurpy heavy-breathing scene if Shula was shagging Phil. Unless they decided that the nation as a whole wouldn't be able to cope with that from Shula.

C8H10N4O2 · 12/11/2017 10:16

I am thoroughly bored by who hit Matt already. Mainly because of heavy handed sign posting of just about the entire cast by an LSW who has delusions of being a remaindered, cut price Agatha Christie.

My money is on Peggy.

I'm assuming the horse fiddle is supposed to be Matt claiming to by horse A whilst actually buying cheaper horse B. Which leaves me with two questions:

  • I thought ringing was where a very good horse was disguised as a bad one?
  • I also thought that race/show horses had DNA passports?
birdsdestiny · 12/11/2017 10:21

It is a very polite thread compared to the rest of MN but also very soothing which is why I like it. But if Shula wasnt with Philip , and she obviously didnt run matt over then why is she behaving in sich a bizarre fashion. There are limits to what else you can do at a hunt ball.

AdalindSchade · 12/11/2017 10:22

Why was Matt buying actual horses if he was trying to scam people, and what's the significance of him buying the less fancy horse?

Ghostontoast · 12/11/2017 10:25

I'd much rather go away and read a Dick Francis racing thriller than listen to this woolly plot!!

Timetogetup0630 · 12/11/2017 10:30

C8H10 etc. I share you confusion. I posted about this upthread. My theory is that he is buying a "ringer" i.e. Buying one horse and passing it off as another.
But yes racehorses have passports and papers and an older horse is very easily identified by its teeth !

And setting up a racecourse is a totally different enterprise to actually buying racehorses to a. Breed b. Train. I don't know what the fuck is going on here, and I am a horsey person.

Scriptwriters don't seem to be getting any advice from anyone with the slightest idea.

C8H10N4O2 · 12/11/2017 10:31

Ghostontoast

I was momentarily confused reading "woolly" as "Woolley Grin

And I agree with you.

R4 · 12/11/2017 10:34

Scriptwriters don't seem to be getting any advice from anyone with the slightest idea.

We Accountants/business types have been feeling the same pain for years.
They are so proud of the agricultural (did the CA call it 'Equatorial' the other day?) consultant that it grates that they don't give two hoots about any other sort of expertise.

Timetogetup0630 · 12/11/2017 10:35

...and I want to rant about PC plod/ plot aka Harrison. The Tosser!
What does he actually do ? Is he the local community bobby sorting out local yobs and giving advice on burglary protection.
Or is he some shit hot homicide detective ?
Do we blame police cuts for this multi tasking ?

Is he a uniformed constable ? Is he plainclothes ?
Do I need to inform Internal Investigations Branch ?
Bring back Line of Duty !

Timetogetup0630 · 12/11/2017 10:38

I actually used to work for a (ahem) Government department that gave advice to The Archers scriptwriters !
Not agricultural but other rural issues.
They would phone us almost weekly to fact check and ask for advice.

(angry)

Gruach · 12/11/2017 10:42

Actually I'm finding the Matt shenanigans fascinating! At the moment, without being able to explain it, I'm assuming a two tier scam - where he knowingly works for a sham company, but is himself ripping off the company. Does that make sense?

And even though TA scriptwriting often leaves a lot to be desired, I'm really enjoying the complications of Lilian's current position - her feelings towards Matt seem, oddly, very much like real life.
