In full acknowledgement of PseudoBadger's great achievement in providing the previous 79 threads over the past 4 years (and credit to R4 for this thread's title)...

Discuss TA (The Archers). New posters encouraged - it's not (too) cliquey here and plenty of regulars are happy to answer questions. Archers

One rule: no spoilers (ie no mentioning future plot teasers from Radio Times listings etc) - there's a separate thread for that.

So, is Phoebe pregnant? will Anisha dob in (dobbin - geddit?) Alistair?

PS I don't presume to take on PB's role permanently - hopefully the job of starting new threads will rotate among regulars until she returns

OP posts:

Well R4 only when we marry do we make VOWs to be faithful . I think that's what Ceto means.

I don't think that it's the vows that are the important thing. Adultery is defined in terms of marriage. Adam and Ian were civil-partnered at the time of Adam's indiscretions but not married so, strictly, it wasn't adultery.

ppeatfruit · 01/09/2017 10:15

Of course I'd forgotten the civil partnership, do they make vows to be faithful?

R4 · 01/09/2017 10:25

do they make vows to be faithful?

Gov.uk says not: "You don’t need to exchange vows for a civil partnership, but you can do so if you wish." All you have to do is "exchange some formal wording" and sign the register.

birdsdestiny · 01/09/2017 10:56

We are beginning to sound like Bill Clinton with our technicalities 😀

anyone else looking forward to the produce show?

RockNRollNerd · 01/09/2017 12:00

Why are they persisting with the option that Oliver could move to New York to live - there's not a chance in hell he'd get a visa to live there I'd have thought. Plus medical insurance for someone his age would be prohibitive wouldn't it?

Cromwell1536 · 01/09/2017 12:53

Well, if Adam and Charlie/Adam and Pavel wasn't adultery, it wasn't fidelity either, was it? Ditto, Lillian and Matt - sort of. If Lillian is really certain she was saying goodbye and finally closing the door on something, well...(but is she??? da-da-DAAAA!!)

I hope so really. Fag Ash and Justin don't interest me much, but I think the Matt-FA-Justin triangle tiresome, not very convincing. Although the older characters' pairings are more interesting than the younger. So dunno really. As ever, I'm left wondering why I spend time on this at all!

Enjoyed Susan and Clarrie though - did Susan actually stomp off and slam out at the end? my radio is breaking down and not sure I heard it properly.

ppeatfruit · 01/09/2017 13:08

I think she did, Susan's pride really took a bashing in the 'taste test' didn't it. Serve her right, lording it over Clarrie like that.

As I said earlier Clarrie will get the promotion .

EBearhug · 01/09/2017 14:11

I can hear it now - "Well, Tom wanted to choose me, but what with all my other responsibilities - I mean, I'm so busy with the shop and everything, so I just didn't have the time to test anything properly. Like my Emma, she's got three jobs, you know, and George and Kiera to look after, but we don't like to complain, and someone's got to do it... It's more of a job share, anyway. Clarrie got all her ideas from me, I am more on the creative side, someone else has to do the admin."

ppeatfruit · 01/09/2017 14:28

Yes exactly EBear Grin

Gruach · 01/09/2017 14:31

Yes, that conversation between Lillian and Adam was very well written - especially her part.

ppeatfruit · 01/09/2017 14:32

Oh, to start a controversy discussion, did Tom mean there were 'spring onions' in Lil's veggie box? He said 'salad onions' !

Interesting the way she scoffed at the lettuces, it sounds like the SWs put her in the "Anything green is rabbit food" unintelligent camp.

Gruach · 01/09/2017 14:48

I wonder ppeat if it's that all the veg box stuff arrives clothed in its organic earth - while Lillian (and her nails) prefers the carefully washed offerings of Ocado or wherever's cool in Felpersham these days.

ppeatfruit · 01/09/2017 15:05

Yes probably Gruach But "Oh darling I always wear me marigolds to wash the greens when the daily's on half day." It's odd we never hear about a cleaner or whoever at the Dower House.

Gruach · 01/09/2017 19:17

That wasn't dreadful ...

Lily is about to take over the world.

TeenTimesTwo · 01/09/2017 19:29

I came in half way through.
Why has Toby agreed to self Scruff Gin at cost price for at least 6 months?

Fink · 01/09/2017 19:29

Yes, big boop for Lily not taking any crap from Toby!

Fink · 01/09/2017 19:34

@TeenTimesTwo it was because Toby had taken Lily's design for a logo without paying any royalties/ acknowledgment, i.e. he'd essentially stolen it.

TeenTimesTwo · 01/09/2017 19:38

Typical Toby! Lily will go far. Grin

birdsdestiny · 01/09/2017 23:11

There's a kefir thread running at the moment.

quickname · 02/09/2017 00:06

why on earth didn't pip ask Toby to plan repayment of her loan? it was obviously a timely moment

C8H10N4O2 · 02/09/2017 00:07

R4 I should have gone with my inner pedant.

Well to be honest, my iffiness around 'adultery' in this context is at least as much about Matt being just as untrustworthy, rather than the missing piece of paper. Matt pulled quite a few fast ones on Lilian when they were together - not with women AFAICR but was often less than honest with her.

In some respects not a million miles from the relationship of convenience Justin/Miranda seemed to have. She tolerated his 'floosies' but boasted of her 'tennis coaches' and open arrangement. Their marriage seemed to be entirely a business relationship with bursts of jealousy or resentment. The only time they seemed cordial with each other was when counting the money.

StVincent · 02/09/2017 02:37

Toby and Lily would make a formidable pair. Bet you anything SHE is the events planner he's texting, unknown to him.

Eastpoint · 02/09/2017 07:36

A baby at this point? Must look up how old Ian is...
