Debbie - dropped out of Exeter in second year after affair with lecturer
Lucy Perks - made it to the end of the three years at Nottingham, gratuitously failed her degree, got married, emigrated to NZ
Brenda - dropped out of prestigious radio production degree when Betty died, transferred to ho hum Marketing degree at Felpersham, took cruddy job at Amside to stay local
Pip - studied locally so she could work on the farm (OK) but then turned down exciting job abroad so she could stay on the farm (that was a blow for the listeners)
Alice - engineering degree at Southampton, disappointingly chose to do Master's at Felpersham, turned her back on engineering to work in sales, seems set in due course to come back to work on farm

I suppose you could say that the Ambridge women who never made it to HE at all are being treated in the same way as the men. Roy got a degree but has never left Ambridge and doesn't have a high-flying career. Christopher did an apprenticeship rather than a degree. Will, Ed, Jamie, Tom - some vocational training after GCSEs, that's it. Johnnie is an apprentice. Josh got A levels, decided not to go to university at all. Freddie likely to do similar once he's out of prison. All fairly comparable to, or worse than, Brenda, Alice, Emma, Nick, Helen, Pip.

Fingers crossed that Phoebe breaks the mould.

I just don't know. They've certainly piled up almost insuperable arguments in favour of Lily leaving university. Much stronger reasons than Brenda had. And the Lily actress* is rather high profile ... Will she be following the Felicity Jones model or the Tamsin Greig model of Ambridge engagement - or is she truly going to be back full time?

*Maybe she'll return with a new voice

Christopher's Farrier course is a pretty prestigious and well respected one. Not everyone needs a degree, and he's got a pretty good business from it. Great prospects except for the danger aspect.

Yes, agreed. Realistic for someone living in the country too. I still think the TA production team should bite the bullet and accept that most kids who grow up in the country move away for education and work. If they want to portray Ambridge in a vaguely realistic way there should be far fewer people whose families have been there for generations and far more commuters, second home owners and retirees. They could make some interesting storylines about young people coming back at the weekend to visit and new people trying to fit in. They managed that a generation ago with Lynda and Robert, time to have another go now.

Yes, Helen is going to say no this week and yes next week and may well then come a cropper. That woman is a walking disaster zone when it comes to men.

I fear that events taking their toll on Elizabeth may signal a return of heart problems.

Thanks Gump. I wonder if Lily will pick up all the slack or if Roy or even Oliver will be the new Geraldine. But isn’t he quite involved with running Grey Gables? He seemed to be when they hosted something for Elizabeth.

I hope Neil doesn’t get shafted. And I’d like things to work out for Helen, if she wants a partner.

It must be something less obvious with Lexi, surely. If they were skyping when they were away then I would have thought she would have said.

I wondered if Geraldine would be prevailed on to come back to help Lily, but as she isn't in the cast list it looks unlikely.

I think Lexi will announce she's already pregnant after a ONS in Bulgaria. She has come back to Ambridge so that Ian and Adam can adopt the baby but will they want it????

Mootsie - my thought processes are a lot slower than yours, but after last night's epi, I was thinking along those lines at the back of my mind, and you have expressed what I may have been thinking, IYSWIM? I'm sure you're right, that is such an elegant answer to all the recent questions which have arisen about Lexi.

Lower Loxley continues to be the nucleus of catastrophe as Lily gets increasingly overwhelmed with various crises. By the weeks end, she is forced to admit the outcome of the investigation into her affair with Russ, Elizabeth has taken a turn for the worse, while the future of the Hunt Ball is also in jeopardy.
Tempers are frayed at the ‘Canterbury Tales’ rehearsals as the Arctic conditions prove too much for some. Will Lynda be able to keep her cast in order and focused? The Home Farm shoot looks set to end in disaster for Will. And Oliver begins his new role, only for a bitter Joe to start planning his revenge for pipping him to the post.
