Sorry but I couldn't resist an opportunity for puns galore Grin

Yes, of course, plus Emma works with Fallon, doesn't she?

Mind you, once he discovers she's pregnant, she'll be confined to the house with a big padlock on the door.

AskingForAPal · 30/09/2015 12:22

"I am dusting off my welcome back Scruff banner." Aww minimammoth :)

Can I ask a stupid question? Who was it hissed at Rob to get off during the cricket? I can only presume it was Adam but I had thought it was Tony Blush

Adam would definitely have told Ian about the homophobic stuff. And Pat would almost certainly talk to Tom - who is still living at home, right? - about what's up with Helen. Especially now she "knows" it's not a pregnancy H might be trying to keep secret.

I don't think Helen's massive trauma is such a mystery though. Worrying about pregnancy is hardly the only reason her husband having sex with her by force and against her will would be upsetting is it? She knows she was raped, and she's not ready to countenance the thought that she may also be up the duff as that would mean she's carrying the spawn of the rapist Knob, and tied to him even more. I think it's not so much that their contraceptive method has changed (although it might have failed of course) as that she hasn't got room for that idea at the moment.

InimitableJeeves · 30/09/2015 12:36

Proper pat would have heard Helens reluctance to take a test and immediately thought it would be something to do with rob.

Not sure I agree. I think Pat could reasonably assume the reluctance is totally within character, and that Helen is simply refusing to admit that she could be pregnant because in Helen's mind such things are not allowed to happen unless she has planned them.

Add to the conversations we ought to hear one between Shula and someone - maybe Jim? about Rob's behaviour at the hunt. And there are a number of people who have been on the receiving end of outright rudeness from him who might reasonably be heard having a whinge.

AskingForAPal · 30/09/2015 12:38

Just one person needs to tell Susan really, don't they? Has he been horribly rude to her yet?

BYOSnowman · 30/09/2015 13:13

Pat has always been deeply suspicious of most men and particularly partners of her children (imo ) so she definitely wouldn't be confiding any concerns she way have with rob.

enochroot · 30/09/2015 13:44

Ah yes, parental responsibility. That seemed to make her want to hurl!

enochroot · 30/09/2015 13:58

She's conveying Rob's views at family meetings quite faithfully. I wonder if she's doubting her own wavering pov and trying to gauge her family's reaction to Rob's ideas in an attempt to get a grip on what she really should be thinking.
Because the family, particularly Pat, is pussy-footing and being open to Rob I suspect Helen is finding it even more confusing. If one of them were to express outright opposition to Rob then she might feel she had an ally.
In other words, she has bludgeoned everyone into accepting Rob and now has no one to go to.

Toomuchtea · 30/09/2015 14:11

I see her putting forward Rob's pov about Fallon as covering her back. She wants Fallon there, but doesn't want to be seen by Rob as taking a decision he'll disagree with. So, she's put over his point of view, can tell him (as can Tom) that that's what she said, but she's left the decision to Tom, whom she knows will go for Fallon.

Toomuchtea · 30/09/2015 14:12

You know, I do wonder quite what I'd have achieved if I'd put the same effort into character dissection into my degree as I do TA.

AskingForAPal · 30/09/2015 14:13

"she has bludgeoned everyone into accepting Rob and now has no one to go to" - yup, Enoch. Or SO SHE THINKS. Dramatic irony since we know half the village have secret "We hate Rob" tattoos under their clothes.

BYOSnowman · 30/09/2015 14:17

I just don't believe pat would be so easily bludgeoned. She would pretend she had been but spend a lot of time fretting about her concerns to Tony

Scarydinosaurs · 30/09/2015 14:31

EBearhug · 30/09/2015 15:16

we know half the village have secret "We hate Rob" tattoos under their clothes.

Tattoo parlour in Borchester. I feel that could be Freddie Pargetter's future career, more than running Lower Loxley.

InimitableJeeves · 30/09/2015 15:46

Surely TA should be on the syllabus of any self-respecting media or drama degree course? Perhaps we could lobby for it on the footing that we will all sign up and get stellar results.

enochroot · 30/09/2015 15:53

I'm sure Pat will be mortified when/if she ever does know the truth but right now she's completely blindsided.

Scarydinosaurs · 30/09/2015 16:25

I teach media a level. The thought of doing an episode of The Archers excites me more than it rightly should...

I would love to see a podcast come up in an exam.

ppeatfruit · 30/09/2015 16:34

I had three different pregnancies BYOS and obviously 3 different dcs Grin One of my nct group was throwing up right through her pregnancy, we're all different.

Toomuchtea · 30/09/2015 16:50

Scary and Jeeves - yes, a TA course should absolutely be a thing. It would have to be more than just a module as I wouldn't fancy having to mug up on all the other stuff. I mean, it might be EE or something.

BYOSnowman · 30/09/2015 17:30

My question was more around vomiting before meals when, presumably, the tummy is empty? I didn't actually vomit with my morning sickness so was asking if it was something normal in others.

Mainly because it sounded like she was properly heaving rather than dry retching.

InimitableJeeves · 30/09/2015 18:18

I thought that generally if you have a tendency to be sick in pregnancies you will be for all your pregnancies - certainly I was - and vice versa. Therefore if Helen wasn't nauseous with Henry it would be a bit odd if she is in a second pregnancy. Mind you, the SWs may well not be aware of that (though they should be as they claim to research quite carefully) or I suppose they could account for it on the basis that anyone would be nauseous if forced to carry the Satanic Spawn of Knob.

InimitableJeeves · 30/09/2015 18:20

My recollection is that I could be sick on a totally empty stomach - my record was around 24 times in one day - though obviously it reached a point when very little was coming up. However, just occasionally putting something in my stomach helped, i.e. the classic piece of toast or dry biscuit.

BYOSnowman · 30/09/2015 19:05

Now we know what robs up to in the night - exercising the hounds of hell

Do we think armed gangs is getting a little too dramatic

Bea · 30/09/2015 19:05

It's Scruff!! Grin

TopazRocks · 30/09/2015 19:06

I can't work out if she is pg or not. it feels to me like anxiety-related as it does seem to happen in stressful conversations. But maybe i am in denial too :-) i think the poor woman has enough to contend with in keeping herself and Henry safe now. Maybe we'll get the convo we all desire so much when Fallon hears or sees something and talks to Plot. After all he might ahve soem professional knowledge and be useful, whereas all the others seem jsut a tad dim about Knob's behaviour.

I thik Jilll will move back in gradually. She'll keep turning up with a casserole, eventually she'll decide she prefers the aga at BF, and evtaully she'll jsut be there allo the time.

SCRUFF is hungry!!

Bea · 30/09/2015 19:07

He's been out in the wilds all this time and is poaching pheasants and hunting deer!!
