The Archers - It's not about the money, money, money, think about Jill's honey, honey, honey, Justin wants to farm by satnav, forget about the prize tag.

Will The Dopeys have buggered off by the end of this thread?
Will Tom finally reach home, after weeks of trekking through the tundra?

S O'C's book Handsome Brute, The True Story of a Ladykiller came out in paperback earlier this year.

(I may have mentioned this a couple of threads ago. I would link but I am temporarily technologically embarrassed.)

It did prompt me to do some serious worrying about Rob and quite what might be in store for Ambridge in the future ...

I fear Nancy's not well too, Topaz Sad

LillianGish · 07/12/2014 21:41

Kate is coming back to take Phoebe to SA (stuck record) Grin

BringYourOwnSnowman · 07/12/2014 21:57

If Kate comes back for xmas won't she bring the kids?

I think Phoebe will reconcile with her dad after her mum pisses her off with her hypocrisy

R4 · 07/12/2014 22:12

I don't believe that Tom and Roy have had a scene together yet. Why not? There must be loads of 'relationships' chat to be had between these bosom buddies, on both sides.

PseudoBadger · 07/12/2014 23:04

Roy has probably walked past Tom without realising it's him Wink

Topaz if you shop at Waitrose you get your Guardian for free.
Or download the app if you use a smartphone, that's free as well.

I found it very odd that no mention of Kate bringing Lucas, Nolly and Sipho with her for Christmas and whoever it was that Jenny told (Jill?) did not ask. They are a bit young to be without their Mum at Christmas and Lucas was supposed to have got a promotion so can't believe that money would be so tight as to prevent the whole family coming, especially with Kate's windfall. I hope we're not in for a divorce storyline.

JessieMcJessie · 08/12/2014 02:40

Phaedra "filler", or maybe more like stuffing? Grin I liked it, just a bit of normal family interaction about the wedding and some Grundy slapstick. Pointless shoehorning in of La Bron and her actressy reading though. I am also appalled that as a tenant Carol considered herself entitled to dinate the curtains for costumes!

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 08/12/2014 05:31

I would rather Kate arrived divorced and without custody than that I be forced to listen to stage school children being South African on my radio.

It would be a real shame for Phoebe to be written out. But it is the most obvious sl. Alternatively a new newly single Kate could take up residence in her own Home Farm holiday cottage and have her long lost daughter live with her ...

LillianGish · 08/12/2014 05:49

I think Phoebe will move because that way the Tuckers and Hayley can be wiped off the face of the earth. Jenny can make occasional refs to Phoebe, but no need to mention the rest of the Tucker clan whereas if she stays Roy will have to be present with Hayley hovering in the background.
Grin Grin Grin at Roy walking past Tom without recognising him.

GypsyFloss · 08/12/2014 07:39

Brilliant Pseudo

BringYourOwnSnowman · 08/12/2014 08:09

I can't imagine phoebe being very forgiving of her mum abandoning yet more children.

Or maybe they are just going to pretend Kate gettibg married and having kids never happened.

Re money - I'm always amazed at what they can and can't afford in soaps. Why doesn't Jenny visit her daughters in sa or Hungary?

CuttedUpPear · 08/12/2014 08:15

There seems to be a lot of money being thrown around the Aldridge clan at the moment.
Didn't JennyDarling just distribute John Tregorran's bequest about the place?

Abra1d · 08/12/2014 08:24

Perhaps Kate and Roy will reconcile and go back to SA and we'll be rid of both of them. Result.

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 08/12/2014 08:35

I'm always amazed at what they can and can't afford in soaps.

Agree as far as TV soaps are concerned but TA seems fairly accurate. (If anything the richer families seem to underspend on shopping and leisure activities - perhaps because they're tied to farming timetables.)

Jenny and Brian have been to SA. Can't recall if Jenny has visited Hungary but Brian has - and Debbie has been back occasionally. No sure if Kate's allowance from her dad includes the income from her cottage. It was odd that Adam asked if she could afford the trip (without asking about her family) but I guess the SWs want to keep the Tregorran legacy in play.

Icimoi · 08/12/2014 08:41

They said that Kate was using the bequest to finance her trip, so I guess the excuse will be that there wasn't enough to pay for the rest of the family to come. Christmas is a bit of an odd time to make the journey, though, you'd think she'd have turned up earlier if she wanted to support Phoebe.

BringYourOwnSnowman · 08/12/2014 08:41

I know they've been to sa but I would expect them to go annually. It jenny to at least. And a long weekend in Hungary here and there. They spend a lot of time complaining they don't see them but never go themselves when they can clearly afford to

Not as bad as tv soaps but still not that accurate either.

And carol was just annoying yesterday. Can she please be arrested for murder asap

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 08/12/2014 08:48

I suspect S O'C is working on a handsome, male murderer story right now ...

Bluestocking · 08/12/2014 10:00

Agree with Jessie that it was very odd that there was no mention of Kate's SA children coming with her/going to Lucas's family for Christmas. Did JD get £50k from John Tregorran and divide it between her four and Ruaridh? I would have thought £10k would be plenty for return tickets for Kate and three children. And in any case, JD would offer to pay for the children's travel.

I quite liked last night's episode - not quite up to the glorious Grundy Wurrrld of Chrissmerrz from a few years ago, but pretty good. Apart from Ms Bron's thespy stylings which I am SO OVER.

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 08/12/2014 10:08

Didn't Jenny keep half of the money (bookshelves) and divide the other half?

But yes, one would think £5,000 would go a fair way to transporting them all - particularly as they'd have no living expenses while in Ambridge.

Divorce.Grin

BringYourOwnSnowman · 08/12/2014 11:02

Jenny would know if there were marital problems- sw there is such a thing called the telephone

Although Lucas and the kids are probably on safari and can't be contacted a la Tom

The sw have a weird idea if how families communicate cross continent

And would kate really leave her kids over Christmas? Or would Lucas let her take them to ambridge for Xmas without him?

I'm sure the sw have thought up a weak excuse (like a log cabin) or just decided to blank Kate's family from the collective memory.

I would have thought Jenny would either be expressing delight or disappointment depending on the grandkids whereabouts - not just forgetting to mention them.

ppeatfruit · 08/12/2014 11:04

So'c is a pretentious prat non? Oui BYOS Xmas Grin

Perhaps Kate wants to concentrate on Pheobe and will leave the others at their grandparents (she's done it before IIRC).

polyhymnia · 08/12/2014 15:39

Glad everyone here seems to agree about E Bron's ghastly actressy performance. That reading really set my teeth on edge. TA isn't a show for people whose egos are so big they unbalance the ensemble. Do hope S O'C gets the message and her character is played down or, preferably, out soon.
