The Archers - It's not about the money, money, money, think about Jill's honey, honey, honey, Justin wants to farm by satnav, forget about the prize tag.

Will The Dopeys have buggered off by the end of this thread?
Will Tom finally reach home, after weeks of trekking through the tundra?

Yes I remember those messages Mimsy (does that make me old?)
They said yesterday that Pat is barely leaving the hospital so Rob will have free rein to do what he likes.
Btw - I heard fin du monde rather than femme du monde. (French pedant)

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 27/11/2014 08:43

That might make more sense cheminotte! Although it sounds more Shoreditch than Borchester. (Or were they in Felpersham?)

BringYourOwnSnowman · 27/11/2014 09:45

I assumed fin du monde is a joke because the sw don't move beyond certain boundaries at which this restaurant is the limit

I hate most of the current storylines!!!

Until now I haven't believed David & Ruth would really do it but now it seems unstoppable and, instead of fairly pleasurably waiting for the moment when they decide not to, suddenly I'm really uncomfortable with the idea of Brookfield going out of the core family's hands. It just doesn't seem right.
I don't see a way they can refuse it, especially now the rest of the family have pound signs in their eyes.

The share thing makes sense to me now. It's 2 thirds to David and 1 third divided between Kenton, Shula & Lizzie. At the original asking price of 4.5 million David would have had 3 million to play with but now he has 5 and they get over £80,000 each. If they have to pay CGT they should net £75,000 apiece which is not to be sneezed at.

BringYourOwnSnowman · 27/11/2014 10:46

750,000 each!

I suppose it could fall through before exchange if the sinkhole appears or justin gets carted off to prison

unitarian · 27/11/2014 10:48

Rats! I knew I needed a new calculator ( and new specs!)

Swannykazoo · 27/11/2014 10:56

-Me Me me please
Apparently...those messages for Mr and Mrs Dullsville in their dormerbile travelling south on the A9 were in fact FOR SPIES! It was apparently code messages etc for British Intelligence.
(I love the fact that
a) it must be true cos I heard it on R4 ages ago (and wasn't dreaming)
b) All these superspies had such dull code names and cars
c) All spies listen to R4 at all times
I'm just off to cut some eye holes in a newspaper and sit on a park bench

(Place marking in style)

pennymoney · 27/11/2014 11:03

I was chatting to one of the dads in my sons' swimming class, and we both discovered we are secret Archers addicts - what a treat to find a whole thread about it! My guilty pleasure is going out for a long run with the omnibus on podcast....I even ran the first half of the last 2 London Marathons plugged into the omnibus which coincided nicely with the start of the race (a coincidence?!).

I read that they've changed the actor for Tom so perhaps he's going to come back but with a strangely different voice due to a bizarre pig wrestling accident...

R4 · 27/11/2014 11:18

There again puggle I'm sure I heard on Home Truths (or some such) a really interestingHmm interview with a person who was that traveler going south on the A9 and ...
Or am I being gullible and that was all part of the cover story.

ErrolTheDragon · 27/11/2014 11:21

Maybe those messages were a mostly genuine with the odd spy communication thrown in - best way to hide something would be in a real system.

unitarian · 27/11/2014 11:25

That's it!
Tom's going to be landed on the coast of Scotland by a Russian submarine. A dormobile will be waiting for him......

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 27/11/2014 11:40

Actually ... Remember how much time Tom spent on Facebook? Ostensibly recovering Bridge Farm's reputation post Clarriegate?

I now realise he was preparing to release millions of secret documents exposing a huge Europe wide initiative to do us all some terrible Utopia type damage via non organic food.

The wedding débâcle was just a cover.

Kirsty (proud environmentalist and undercover spook) fled with him

Their safe house may or may not be in Canada.

He can never come back.

Swannykazoo · 27/11/2014 11:53

Carrie will be sleeping with him while wearing a wire next week on Homeland!

PseudoBadger · 27/11/2014 12:48

So he'll soon be shot by his uncle in the wilds of Borcetshire Puggle!

As a diversion (a bit fed up with current storylines) I found this on the SOS messages
www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/legacy/radio4/2012/09/and_now_an_urgent_sos_message.html

During the war messages to SOE in France were disguised amongst random sentences e.g. Aunt Mary is coming to dinner today.

ppeatfruit · 27/11/2014 13:40

Well once again I go away from computers; I can't be arsed with faffing about being a 'guest' user etc. Now there's a new thread!!!!! (Thanks Pseudo btw).

Just done a marathon Catch up and enjoyed it. Though I still reckon the dopeys'll not move. An interesting almost Stepford wives moment from Helen, yes the new Peep sounds like Helen , the old one was annoying but at least she was recognisable fgs. See how much power we've got Grin?

WhatWouldFreddieDo · 27/11/2014 13:50

.

unitarian · 27/11/2014 15:42

And Justin's really a Russian oligarch.

BringYourOwnSnowman · 27/11/2014 16:10

Is Brenda engaged to Charlie?

She will catch having a roll in the hay with Adam?

Or is she engaged to another demara capital person?

guineapiglet · 27/11/2014 16:20

I confess that I struggled to differentiate between Todd and Charlie, they sounded like the same actor, same posh vowels and intonation - now that really is cheapskatism

Theshedofalfredogarcia · 27/11/2014 16:22

Just unlurking to say I love your thread titles.Smile

Very longtime listener but am really Angry at all the loose ends left unaddressed.

BringYourOwnSnowman · 27/11/2014 16:36

Agree guinea - I found the conversation a little confusing as I couldn't tell who it was

ppeatfruit · 27/11/2014 16:56

Yes me too guinea and BYOS I was wondering if Todd was another of the charming Charlie's 'squeezes.'

unitarian · 27/11/2014 17:10

I see we're now morphing into Homeland - though I read Puggle's as "Clarrie will soon be sleeping with him...."! Grin

guineapiglet · 27/11/2014 17:49

Well I am on both threads... If you find the Archers far fetched and a tad unrealistic, Homeland will do nothing for the blood pressure. I am struggling to recall recent drama, radio or otherwise which kept realism and interest (except the Killing/The Returned) sustained. TA has been pretty good at maintaining both, but the past 12 months or so have strrrrrrrrretched credibility and characters to breaking point!!
