The Archers - It's not about the money, money, money, think about Jill's honey, honey, honey, Justin wants to farm by satnav, forget about the prize tag.

Will The Dopeys have buggered off by the end of this thread?
Will Tom finally reach home, after weeks of trekking through the tundra?

EmnEd, perhaps? It was nice to have them happy for once.

But what about BL, then? Has Brine resigned due to being kept in the dark on the purchase of Brookfield, or is it because he's just heard about Justin's plans for it and they are exactly as feared? I must say, if the Dopeys are confronted with the certainty of Brookfield becoming a sea of little boxes, it ought to give them pause.

Aww! Em and Ed today! Bought a little lump to my throat!!

Bea · 05/12/2014 19:42

Gah... Brought!!

cheminotte · 05/12/2014 20:32

Just caught up. Didn't see that coming. Having a little cry now.

GypsyFloss · 05/12/2014 20:35

Loved the EdnEmmur chat tonight. Definitely time for them to have a little happiness.

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 05/12/2014 20:38

Can I nominate Emma for future-matriarch status?

(Wasn't Clarrie the driving force in her marriage to Eddie?)

northernlurker · 05/12/2014 20:47

Ed and Em were super sweet. She's her mother's daughter - what she wants she gets. Susan may be a gossip laden baggage sometimes but nobody could ever fault her devotion to and her pride in her family and it's nice to see that being portrayed in Emma too because that is how mothers and daughters often are.
Loved how both Will yesterday and Ed today said 'you're a clever woman' to her.

PoinsettiaGordino · 05/12/2014 21:22

It was a lovely final scene

Icimoi · 05/12/2014 22:14

I do like her entirely justifiable pride in Ed, he really did rise to the occasion magnificently with the bull.

TopazRocks · 05/12/2014 23:02

I find myself worrying here - in case Will does something to put the kibosh on Ed and Em's happiness. It was a lovely scene though. Fair cheered me up - except for the fretting of course. Smile

At risk of doing an 'Aunt Ruby'*, I did wonder if Brine would resign. I hope he will just feel relieved rather than upset. Sometimes it's best just to walk rather than endure IME. Though what would be the business implications for Brine and Home Farm?

  • When G aunt Ruby's dd had twins, it seems she had known all along - but had omitted to mention it to anyone, even her pregnant dd, till they were out. Said twins are my age - so it was in the days when surprise twins were commoner than nowadays. Strange family, that branch is. Hmm

Brilliant scene with Ed and Em. Worked well because there has been a very long story running up to it with everything they've been through together and because they both sound like themselves so I haven't got DH saying "Who's that?" And immediately diluting the drama (particularly annoying as it has taken me literally years to train in him who is who and now he feels it has all been for nothing!)
Old Tom was all about trying to please his parents by being new John.
New Tom is all about trying to please his parents by being new tony.
So true - and slightly surprised that more hasn't been made of the fact that he no longer needs to be new John because son-of-John is here.
Also delighted to see that my prediction of Rhind Tutt being brought in to play someone from FLOS being proved correct (totally unbelievable as Lynda would never accept anyone from FLOS but clearly the Beeb don't think anyone in the existing cast is up to playing the part of Charles in spite of recruiting lots of trained thesps!)

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 05/12/2014 23:44

Yes, well predicted!

But poor Jim.Grin

Icimoi · 06/12/2014 00:17

Lynda hasn't exactly accepted the FLOS refugee, though, it's Alice who has recruited him and presented her with a fait accompli.

JessieMcJessie · 06/12/2014 01:06

Intreresting you say that EdnM "both sound like themselves" since Em actress changed about 8 years ago (it was def Felicity Finch at the wedding and pregnancy story time). The new one is great though and sounds so like Susan, perfect match.

JessieMcJessie · 06/12/2014 01:08

Oops, Felicity Jones! FF is Ruth of course.

JessieMcJessie · 06/12/2014 02:09

Ooh, just listened. Did NOT like Emma proposing to Ed! Makes no sense, he must have known for years she'd marry him if he asked, why the jumping up and diwn shouting yes? The fact that she HAD to ask brings him way down in my estimation. Wonder if she can get Kirsty's posho dress? They've got time to get the ribena stain out.

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 06/12/2014 02:27

Well... Firstly Ed was far too proud to do any such thing while they were struggling. Secondly because she's been married before there might have been an element of not wanting to go down that route again. And of course, if she had refused for any reason it would have been dreadful - since she'd obviously found Will fit to marry.

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 06/12/2014 07:18

I agree, Zero. I thought it was lovely too.

Love Topaz's doing an Aunt Ruby! Family phrases like that always make me laugh.

mummytime · 06/12/2014 08:21

Why shouldn't Em propose? I thought it was lovely.

CuttedUpPear · 06/12/2014 08:56

I feel that Brine resigning may not help his overall position - I know that he has had insensitive treatment at the hands of BL in the past, but at least he's been there to keep his finger on the pulse.

Also - a shame that the event happened off camera and we were denied the thrill of that particular resignation.
It would have made a good episode.

PoinsettiaGordino · 06/12/2014 09:13

I loved the proposal too. It was very moving

Bea · 06/12/2014 09:31

Yes! I thought it was lovely that Emma proposed... Ed has always been incredibly proud! And for her to ask him would make him feel that she absolutely wants him... He suffers from low self esteem... He just needs a good old boost of confidence. ..
Oh I hope the writers will let Emma and Ed have some time off from the misery now. ... Let them have some good luck for a change!!

ppeatfruit · 06/12/2014 09:44

Aaaaah That was lovely Xmas Grin Yes VERY clever Emma arranging the lights to be switched on at No.1 by Georgie ( I loved the fact he can have Lucky the turkey living there!!!) and yng Ed not having a clue!

ppeatfruit · 06/12/2014 09:45

And SHE proposed to him (brilliant) Xmas Grin!!!!

minklundy · 06/12/2014 10:35

I liked it to.
Hope they don't start planning a stressful big wedding though and struggling to afford it. Just keep it simple and get it done.
