The Archers - It's not about the money, money, money, think about Jill's honey, honey, honey, Justin wants to farm by satnav, forget about the prize tag.

Will The Dopeys have buggered off by the end of this thread?
Will Tom finally reach home, after weeks of trekking through the tundra?

It will be Damara who are liable for any stamp duty, not D&R, so shouldn't make a dent in the 7.5M.

Icimoi · 04/12/2014 13:36

But they'll have to pay stamp duty on the place they're buying, won't they?

dairyfarmerswife · 04/12/2014 13:45

Yes but they aren't spending 7.5M on the new place, more like 5M isn't it? Have just had a quick look at hmrc and I think because it's mixed use, the non residential rate of 4 % applies BUT because Damara are a corporate body they have to pay 15%... If I have interpreted that correctly.

sunnyfrostyday · 04/12/2014 19:09

Still not sure about Tom, but do love the fact that he's taking on Rob! Go Tom!

PseudoBadger · 04/12/2014 19:12

"I can trust you. With money anyway" Grin

Aha, tis out now - they're going to have to change their minds shuuurely.

BringYourOwnSnowman · 04/12/2014 19:19

Well I hope Ruth is thoroughly ashamed of herself after that chat with Lynda

And rob will have to think quick to stay in the game

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 04/12/2014 19:20

Fab episode. Deeply reassuring.

Though Rob will probably move into full-on sabotage mode now.

So we're to assume that Tom underwent some spectacular growing up process in those backwoods? OldTom would simply have said "yes Sir, no Sir" to Rob. I hope this new found moral fibre is thoroughly woven in.

SixToesLeft · 04/12/2014 19:21

Well done Lyndy! No guilt trips, just horror.

CuttedUpPear · 04/12/2014 19:40

Well zero it's obvious why Tom is acting differently now...I reckon someone swapped him over when he was away....

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 04/12/2014 19:48

D'ya think?

(It's hard to remain loyally hostile when the character re-write is such an improvement. So far.)

SixToesLeft · 04/12/2014 20:21

And he's a much better actor...

unitarian · 04/12/2014 20:22

Listening to the podcast. It's great to hear Tom opposing Rob and Rob doesn't like it.

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 04/12/2014 20:46

I think she might give him a third chance ...

BringYourOwnSnowman · 04/12/2014 20:55

I hope not zero. Instead of all these other new characters couldn't we have a girlfriend for Tom.

If Kirsty gets back together with him I would expect him to cheat in her/walk out on her once they have kids.

Let's face it - he's just not that into her

TopazRocks · 04/12/2014 21:06

I like NewTom better too. He is a better actor, but he also - so far - has better lines. I wonder if Knob will turn v nasty now he's being crossed. I hope NewTom remains up to it. I suppose Knob could up the pressure on Hellin to get back at Tom?

Wasn't there some suggestion - must have been way back in April when the wedding of the year didn't happen - in an actor blog or something that K and Tom might get together again. The woman should have realised by now what he is like, but some people never learn. Sad

BringYourOwnSnowman · 04/12/2014 21:27

It wouldn't make sense - she was in love with old Tom not this new guy

I also think you are being swayed to like the actor by his lines.

I think he's a bit flat.

Alsoflamingo · 04/12/2014 21:41

OddFodd I totally agree about new Tom sounding like the odious Charlie. Absurd to shove in some new actor who sounds nothing like the last one and expect everyone to swallow it. Given that voices are all we have to go on with radio it seems bonkers. Reckon this is why Helen keeps using his name in that unnatural and unnecessary way when they are talking - to remind us who he is supposed to be. New Pip bears zero resemblance to old one too. Find it all most odd .....

stilllearnin · 04/12/2014 21:44

BYOS I agree- I preferred OT acting wise. I do like him standing up to the old knobber tho. Some of NT's lines are not that great. I caught yesterday's repeat and that seen with Peggy was terrible. He asked his sobbing gran if there was anything he could do and it sounded like he was a passing strange!

Rob will sabotage which will make me delightfully twitchy Smile. Also what will be the upshot of H not eating? Will he be her nurse?

stilllearnin · 04/12/2014 21:46

Oh scene! Blush

GypsyFloss · 04/12/2014 21:46

OldTom did a great delivery of complete self-obsession but there wasn't much nuance except perhaps towards the end as he began to realise that he was making a mistake.

NewTom not only has better lines, he also sounds like he's had a complete personality overhaul which is just confusing the hell out of me. It takes me ages to work out when it's him speaking and then when I do I'm left wondering who the hell this alien is. I never knew Canada was so good for self awareness , empathy and empowerment.

TopazRocks · 04/12/2014 22:00

Yes, despite liking NT better , I find it very confusing too. Although they are in different scene it's quite poor planning to have 2 new actors in t he same fortnight. It's startin to feel like a new series.

Minimammoth · 04/12/2014 22:02

The old romantic in me wants Tom to realise Krsty is The one, and they will run away, do a quick and dirty wedding, and come back wed. No do, no nowt.

TopazRocks · 04/12/2014 22:04

I hope K has been practising her screaming while she's been away. It would be dreadful if she went back to Tom without a huge shouting match. But really she needs a completely new man, not just a different actor who's found himself. Hmm

BringYourOwnSnowman · 04/12/2014 22:25

If Kirsty poted in relationships we would tell her to run and keep running not sigh at how romantic it is!

Aibu to elope with my boyfriend after he cheated on me am then when we got back together he jilted me? But I really luffs him and I'm sure he luffs me too

Answer 1 - er cheating and jilting - that's two red flags

Answer 2 - snap out of it woman. He doesn't love you

Answer 3 - hey Hun go with your heart. Tru luv never dies

Answer 4 - ignore 3. You're not in some Barbara Cartland novel

Etc
