The Archers - It's not about the money, money, money, think about Jill's honey, honey, honey, Justin wants to farm by satnav, forget about the prize tag.

Will The Dopeys have buggered off by the end of this thread?
Will Tom finally reach home, after weeks of trekking through the tundra?

Maybe Tim Bentinck sounds like he's just reading his lines because he's a secret sympathiser with us and thinks it's all a load of totally unbelievable rubbish. It must be quite hard to act this stuff as if you really mean it when you know quite well that the character you've worked so hard to establish over the years just wouldn't behave the way David's behaving.

Abra1d · 03/12/2014 20:41

I like New Tom {sorry}.

cheminotte · 03/12/2014 20:43

Tom also noticed Helen 'not having time' for a sandwich.

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 03/12/2014 20:45

Yes. Helen doesn't appear to have eaten any food at all for several weeks ...

TopazRocks · 03/12/2014 20:55

I wondered too if Peggy's 'you'll not be here ... ' to Jill was one of those ominous remarks. I suppose shuffling off is inevitable for both of them in the next decade. So sad as the next generation is mostly boring with a few high points. I've just had a huge list of films with U boats in from ds3 - I wasn't very specific about why I wanted it!

BringYourOwnSnowman · 03/12/2014 21:45

www.imdb.com/name/nm0072758/

he was a u boat captain in enigma

newtom is quite the caring sharing guy. not just a new voice

GypsyFloss · 03/12/2014 21:55

Wonder if we will see the reconciliation of Tom and Kirsty? I'd like that, even if Tom isn't quite the man she jilted.

Talking of which...what happened to the huge Catheter Hall debts? Surely a few months in Canada's pig world isn't lucrative enough to wipe that slate clean?

BringYourOwnSnowman · 03/12/2014 22:01

him getting back with kirsty would be ridiculous - he dumped her twice in pretty awful ways!!

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 03/12/2014 22:02

It would have been difficult for OldTom to bring such a flavour of restrained threat to his "potatogate" reaction. He could never have been quite so cold and dangerous.

I'm still wondering about the point of Tom's own non-organic feed fiasco after the non-wedding. There was a slapped wrist for BF but no real repercussions for him.

R4 · 03/12/2014 22:31

I do wonder though at bright-ish young man finding aged gran having a bit of a weep and sounding embarrassed.

That wasn't how I heard it. I heard a young man - whose father is at death's door - found his normally-self-controlled gran uncontrollably weeping, put two and two together & made 64, then realised his mistake and tried to cover up.

DadDadDad · 03/12/2014 22:50

Er, Gypsy, "the man she jilted"? Surely it was Tom who did the jilting. Kirsty's cry in the church still sticks in the memory...

BringYourOwnSnowman · 03/12/2014 22:52

what's the expression - fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me

if kirsty went back for a third go....

Minimammoth · 03/12/2014 22:55

Fracking would unite the village, I reckon, and yes I agree with the missing Tiger bit, he would definitely have an opinion. It's strange how you never hear 'a Matt thinks xxxx', sort of comment from Lillian.
Oh and it's definitely all Peggoi's fault.
Oh and didn't Kirsty tell Tom what she thought of Rob, so he will be a bit watchful, I imagine. Must catch up.

DadDadDad · 03/12/2014 22:57

BYOS - yes, that's the expression. Well done, as not everyone finds it easy to remember that one (couldn't resist linking to this)...

GypsyFloss · 04/12/2014 05:55

You're right DadDadDad! How could I have forgotten about that bit!
I think I still harbour hopes of a long lasting TomKirsty match to be honest but as rightly pointed out, she'd be some fool to give him another chance.

Fracking would be so topical , too topical to handle well?

Icimoi · 04/12/2014 07:23

Just realised that the stamp duty changes will make another big dent in that £7.5 million. I wonder if the SWs will manage to work that in?

minklundy · 04/12/2014 07:47

Is agricultural land included in SD?

TeenyfTroon · 04/12/2014 08:00

Just catching up and at last I find I'm not totally alone in my support of the HWMNBN storyline. It was interesting to see who in Ambridge did actually help and I liked Smugula for that even if she did it in the wrong way and (maybe) for the wrong reasons.

guineapiglet · 04/12/2014 08:32

Did anyone else find Shula and Elizabeth nauseating in their dealings with Jill yesterday...? Everyone is being 'honest' but their greed is really sickening - without the filthy lucre, what would they really be feeling?

DDD loved the GWB clip, a reminder that things could be much, much worseGrin

ppeatfruit · 04/12/2014 08:42

I meant too "mach.' for Justin unitarian Demara are just bullying big money boys IMO not clever, cruel intellectuals.

I thought the new Tom can act the sox off the old one; brilliant reaction to potato gate Grin also to Kirstie's sweet sad call.

R4 · 04/12/2014 09:42

Everyone is being 'honest' but their greed is really sickening

What greed? It was David who upset the status quo, not the siblings. No-one was demanding any money until D&R had their bright idea. D&R are the ones who are breaking up the family, who are leaving Ambridge, who are abandoning SAVE.
Is Jill really dense. Did the implications of all this not hit home until Peggy pointed them out.Hmm

guineapiglet · 04/12/2014 10:00

Yes, I agree that D and R kicked it all off, not selling out of greed, but out of circumstance and a change in Brookfields fortunes. However I do feel K, E and S are being greedy, they have all pretty much spent the cash before they've even got it, and no real agonising about their heritage, implications for Ambridge, genuine feelings towards their other going... In other words, they are 'acting' with honesty, but the money aspect is hiding the truth. IF none of them had shares in the farm, what would their truth really be. We all expected Kenton to go for the gold, but not S and E, so greedily.

guineapiglet · 04/12/2014 10:01

...mother going... Oops

R4 · 04/12/2014 10:35

no real agonising about their heritage

Au contraire. David was left the majority interest in Brookfield, it is his heritage (that, I might add, that he is willing to give up). All the other three want to invest in their own heritages that they can pass on to their DC - the stables, The Bull and LL.
You could argue that D&R have had a free ride on their siblings' money for the last five years.

guineapiglet · 04/12/2014 12:01

Yes I agree with your last point, the siblings could have made D and Rs life very difficult if they had wanted their shares earlier. I guess thinking about my own family's decision making about moving house, uprooting etc and knowing these Archer characters over many years, I am surprised there hasn't been more angst, hand wringing, private conversations, late night anxiety, more 'are we doing the right thing' etc, the money has indeed focused the mind so all the sentimental attachments are secondary. Jill confided that she didn't want to move to Carol and all her uncertainty hasn't resurfaced with her own children. I just don't find the exploration of the real truths very honest or convincing.
