The Archers - It's not about the money, money, money, think about Jill's honey, honey, honey, Justin wants to farm by satnav, forget about the prize tag.

Will The Dopeys have buggered off by the end of this thread?
Will Tom finally reach home, after weeks of trekking through the tundra?

TopazinfestedGrin maybe we should all book 5* rooms in Prague so they can't go.

Re Hogwarts - He's still at prep school. They come home far more often than anyone (except staff and houseparents) could possibly want. And they really should have sorted out a senior school (Sherborne?) for him by now. Think he's yr 7? I'll be disappointed if we don't get to share the fun anxiety.

Yes - David's def labouring under a rather low mood. Having them move is one thing - sacking the actor would be ridiculous.

unitarian · 03/12/2014 18:25

Tim Bentink (sp?) was a U boot captain in something I watched last week.

I am leaning slightly towards fracking as a motive but if there is shale gas under a huge swathe of the country does he actually need Brookfield land to do it? He has other land in the area where he could build a fracking plant or whatever it's called.
Which is why I do wonder if it's at least in part payback for burning his effigy on the bonfire. After all, if he plans to withdraw or drive the price down then he's not significantly out of pocket but sends out a signal to everyone that he's not to be messed with.

ppeatfruit Do you mean that's too machievellian for Justin or the scriptwriters? (Or me!)

TopazRocks · 03/12/2014 18:32

Jawohl! Das Boot it must have been. All the little Topazes got excited about TA connection when we saw that years ago. I think it was Das Boot. Now doubting memory.Sad

BoreOfWhabylon · 03/12/2014 18:43

Loving minklundy's plot - it's got dolerite, aquafers, karoos, pottery - everything!

unitarian · 03/12/2014 19:08

No, nothing like as good as Das Boot!

WaltzingWithBares · 03/12/2014 19:12

Hmm - has Rob been ordering spuds for the moos?

This roundabout argument between Jill and her daughters makes absolutely no sense. And they'd already told David - it didn't need two announcements.

Yay. Finally Tom steps up. Finally.

unitarian · 03/12/2014 19:21

Tom not only sounds like Charlie he's got the same staccato delivery.

But it's good to see he's getting the measure of Rob.

BringYourOwnSnowman · 03/12/2014 19:27

So update?

Did Jill have a go at the girls this showing her true colours of favouring David?

BoreOfWhabylon · 03/12/2014 19:29

NewTom is supposed to be a man in his thirties. He sounds about 12!

Just when it's all going to kick off with Knob too - OldTom would do it much better.

TopazRocks · 03/12/2014 19:35

Yy, Tom has seen the light regarding Knob. I said that would happen, you know. I do wonder though at bright-ish young man finding aged gran having a bit of a weep and sounding embarrassed. When so much awful stuff is going on at present. And Jill saying she is 'at breaking point'?Yes, maybe when combined with her being uber-sad when cat (and husband) died some months ago and fave GS screwed everyone over and disappeared abroad and she seemed very depressed. But not on the strength of one weepy outburst when talking to friend. Oh well.

And if Jill is living at Brookfield at present, wouldn't she already know what the non-B'field offspring have decided? Do Rooth and David not talk to her, just let her cook and clean and all that stuff? I actually liked tonight's episode, esp. Tom being a towering strength. YY, let's all go to Prague next week, I want to chat up Brine. And see what JD does about it. Grin P.S. I had my eyebrows 'done' yesterday so I am all sleek.

TopazRocks · 03/12/2014 19:38

BYOS, she sounded surprised (doesn't she always!) but seemed to accept that was what they'd decided. No great acrimony. They had a naice lunch, mother and two daughters.

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 03/12/2014 19:40

Brian isn't interested in eyebrows. Can you make a good game pie?

BringYourOwnSnowman · 03/12/2014 19:41

So the little teasers for the episodes are overly dramatic as today's was 's and e face Jill' suggesting some big showdown. Not a minor surprise at lunch.

Someone upthread suggested that the sw have always wanted us to like Tom and Helen and I agree. Gettibg Tom to face off to knob is a good way to make him popular. Although agree he sounds way too you g in voice and words

SixToesLeft · 03/12/2014 19:42

I actually really liked Peggy telling Jill that she won't be there to see the fall out. Jill has been so bloody wet about the whole thing.

I hope there is some serious Coventry sending for the Dopeys

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 03/12/2014 19:43

unitarian, it was Enigma. I watched it too. I saw TB's name in the cast list but had not spotted him during the film. Was it a blink and you'll miss it part?

Tonight I heard someone speaking to Helen at the start of the episode and thought 'Oh, Adam's come to see her'. But no, it was Tom. The new voice isn't growing on me.

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 03/12/2014 19:44

No acrimony but quite an unreasonable amount of handwringing. On both sides.

And of course it's ridiculous to think of David, in the same house, creeping about and not telling her - since Sunday or Monday.

TopazRocks · 03/12/2014 19:50

Synopsis for BYOS: apart from naice lunch as above, Jill dropped in on Peggy who wept and reckoned if she'd not upset Tony over her will he'd not have bought cows (or Otto), and so the accident was ALL HER FAULT. Then while Tom was dropping in on his gran, a delivery of spuds came. And he was cross and blamed Knob, but reassured Hellin who was panicking slightly (as ever) and pleading with him not to fight with Knob. He reassured her. So something good has come of his exile in the Canadian wilderness. And Kirsty texted Hellin to ask after Tony. Naice. And there was something about Hellin not eating lunch. Again. Oh dear. Was that it?

I've had to text ds3 as the not das Boot film is annoying me. Das boot had Matthew McFadyen though, didn't it? Or was that Enigma, which had a U-boat scene. I have to get a life, in Germany perhaps .... Smile

TopazRocks · 03/12/2014 19:53

I'd better not tell Brine I've been a vegetarian for several decades. GrinX-posted over all those fecking films. I am very confused.

unitarian · 03/12/2014 19:54

Thank you, mimsy* for jogging my failing memory. I couldn't remember what I'd watched.
It was blink-&-you-missed-it but I saw his name in the cast list while trying to work out who someone else was. I think he shouted 'ALARM!'

TopazRocks · 03/12/2014 19:57

Note. The spuds came to Bridge Farm, not Peggy's. That would have had Peggy weeping again.

TopazRocks · 03/12/2014 19:59

Yes, it was a blink and miss it moment (in whichever U boat film we are talking about), but the voice was unmistakeable.

unitarian · 03/12/2014 20:00

Rest easy, Topaz. Das Boot had an all German cast. McFadyen was in Enigma, along with the rest of the British acting fraternity.

BringYourOwnSnowman · 03/12/2014 20:00

i guess toms little bedside speech let us know he is totally on the bridge farm 'doing it properly' side! Have we heard from johnny?
