Pah. I think I shall boycott not because of the anticlimax but because nothing dire happened to Hellin Angry

Poor Graham/Nigel though Sad

Chil1234 · 04/01/2011 15:10

@fruitstick.... This isn't 'Spooks' we're talking about, it's The Archers. When someone dies they get spoken about in hushed tones for a week or three, there's some kind of memorial cricket match/evening at the Bull and the rest of the family carries on as bravely as possible, sniffing occasionally at significant anniversaries. Ripples wil result but, if the script runs true to type, we won't have inheritance battles, life insurance problems or discover that Nigel had a secret second life as an arc welder in Wolverhampton...

fruitstick · 04/01/2011 15:54

Grin. DH has to remind me on a regular basis that Spooks is not a documentary.

I agree, but if the effects are going to be felt village wide for generations to come ..... I reckon lack of respectable life insurance causes Lizzie to be forced to switch to non-organic in the tea rooms, thus putting pat and Tony out of business.

Plus my money's on baby Henry being allergic to dairy.

Ponders · 04/01/2011 16:51

"Ripples wil result but, if the script runs true to type, we won't have inheritance battles"

you think? This is Elizabeth we're talking about! She could have an inheritance battle with herself.

trice · 04/01/2011 16:56

Is there anyone nice left in the archers? Couldn't we arrange a meteorite?

Tolalola · 04/01/2011 17:09

Hardly anyone nice is left, trice. There's Fallon, I suppose, I quite like her.

Haven't listened since Sunday, though. It was all so rubbish.

I'm sure MN will let me know if a massive bubonic plague outbreak kills off practically everyone so it's safe to listen again...

EdgarAleNPie · 04/01/2011 17:32

this couldn't re-open the home farm inheritance question, could it?

Ponders · 04/01/2011 17:39

Brookfield, Edgar Grin

Well it shouldn't but it probably will

EdgarAleNPie · 04/01/2011 17:40

throws self off roof<

of course its fucking brookfield. how lng have i been listening? only my whole life.

Ponders · 04/01/2011 17:51

It took me about - oooh, 10 years before I was really nearly confident of naming the right farm Grin

\link{\This might make you feel better...}

Abr1de · 04/01/2011 18:23

' but it leaves the way open for Lizzie - who didn't have a great track-record with blokes until Nicey Nigel - to have some marvellous affairs with a few gold-digging but devastatingly attractive creeps.'

I don't think Elizabeth is going to be flush. The estate will probably go to F&L and she will have to keep on working damn hard to keep it viable.

Abr1de · 04/01/2011 18:24

...But as I was TOTALLY wrong about Nigel not having died in the fall, feel free to disregard.

GrendelsMum · 04/01/2011 19:51

I did think that tonight's episode was moving.

I actually think that killing Nigel is a great idea for plenty of storylines, although I did think that pushing him off a roof was rather hammy. Nigel's always such an idiot that he could have killed himself in a hundred ways - knocked off his bike for cycling while drunk, or something - so it seemed a bit unnecessary for him to fall off a roof.

I agree that there will be inheritance issues, and family rifts, and difficlties running Lower Loxley and all the rest of it.

gingeroots · 04/01/2011 21:29

Mmm - the old Brookfield inheritance wrangle .
Perhaps LL will turn out to be remortgaged and Brookfield will somehow be jepordised....

bea · 04/01/2011 23:40

tonights was quite good... although pip drives me insane ... Juuuuude!!!! ... thought the scene with her and david was the teariest so far!!!

Grockle · 05/01/2011 09:26

Graham Seed on the Today programme was very sad Sad

lol @ the baby being allergic to dairy.

I'm feeling rather disappointed and let down by Nigel's death. There was so much they could have done - so many positive things to celebrate 60 years. Why did someone else have to die? Especially someone who was liked and broke up the monotony of all the doom and gloom and moaning that happens all around Ambridge.

mrsweasleyismyalterego · 05/01/2011 09:59

just wondering as health and safety are involved could they issue a substantial fine over the a death at a place of work anywhere from £30,000 to 100,000 + .

also could the insurance company refuse to pay out on any life insurance in nigel's name (if he had any) due to the nature of his death.

either way making lower loxley unviable for lizzie to maintain in it's present form.

JetLi · 05/01/2011 13:41

Well I have been reliably informed you can now download Nigel's scream as a ringtone Hmm

I agree with Grockle - so many other things they could have done, without such grim-ness Sad

LillianGish · 05/01/2011 20:21

ROFL at baby Henry being allergic to dairy!
Mrsweasley - I like your thinking. If repercussion are going to be felt for years to come it has to be something like that.

Ponders · 05/01/2011 20:42

I don't think life insurance would refuse to pay out on an accident. I knew someone who committed suicide when acutely depressed, & his insurance paid out - I think it's only when they think someone killed themselves purely to get the insurance money they won't.

H&S & possible criminal charges against David are something else...

I just listened to tonight's epi - the scene between Alan & Elizabeth was incredibly moving Sad

mrsweasleyismyalterego · 05/01/2011 21:24

another posibility the trauma of nigels finally means lizzie'dodgy heart packs in . LL passes to freddy via elizabeth resulting in double death duties . LL goes under the hammer matt crawford or one of hhis cronies buys it and sells some of the lnd off which after years of planning wrangles results in housing or a large out of town supermarket changing ambridge forever .

Northernlebkuchen · 05/01/2011 21:28

Alison Dowling was amazing tonight - utterly heartbreakingly awful.

Ponders · 05/01/2011 21:31

she really was, & the scene didn't make me cry, just gave me a huge lump in my throat & wet eyes (which was somehow worse, iykwim)

she is an excellent actress

Northernlebkuchen · 05/01/2011 21:36

YEs you just sat there feeling it. I loathe Vanessa Whitburn for putting Lizzie through that - don't tell me they're not real!

WhatsWrongWithYou · 05/01/2011 21:50

So do we know why Graham Seed was sacked? I remember him years ago in a racy series called Love For Lydia and he was sweet and harmless but lovely then, as I think of Nigel's character. Seems weird they got rid.
