Who is going to fall off the roof!

OP posts:
blackeyedsusan · 03/01/2011 01:22

have they posted his date of death on the ambridge website? Will be off to check soon

blackeyedsusan · 03/01/2011 01:34

No just the birth of harry(?)

teahouse · 03/01/2011 11:03

On the radio this morning just before 9 (Today programme), they had someone from the Archers on who said that a birth and death were momentious events and defended the programme against the charge that it was overhyped.

When the presented noted she'd given the plot away, she said 'potential death'... the mystery deepends ;o)

Greenshadow · 03/01/2011 11:07

The Times review today assumes he is dead.

Grockle · 03/01/2011 11:54

Not shaken to the core but intriguing nonetheless. I am unusually excited about tonight's episode - I usually listen to the omnibus on a Sunday but will have to listen in the evenings this week!

GrimbleFreud · 03/01/2011 11:57

"And the 'aaaaaarghhhhh!!!' was decidedly high-pitched and Pargetish"

"Chil1234", abso-fucking-lutely hilarious Grin

ReshapeWhileDamp · 03/01/2011 12:00

Is it just me, or can anyone else hear a quiet but definite THUD just after the ARGGHHHHhhhh? Sad

GrimbleFreud · 03/01/2011 12:02

Oh I do love you all, thankyou sooo much.

I've been away from MN for 6m or so and came back a few days ago to find nothing but shite.

This, however, is hilarious Grin

Abr1de · 03/01/2011 12:38

I am very saddened that you find it in your heart to mock the bereaved, Grimble.

BoffinMum · 03/01/2011 12:43

It was interesting looking on the Archers discussion board. All the moaning minnies were on there saying it was too like Eastenders. But TBH all these types of things happen in our village and we had a dramatic death in September 2008 on a level with this, probably even worse actually. I think people forget that the countryside can be as dramatic as anywhere else. It's not all duck ponds and village fetes.

DarrellRivers · 03/01/2011 12:47

Have just listened on i-player
Agree re the casualty script writers

From the early mention of the roof , the banner and then the dark and then the strong wind, my heart was pounding Grin

Do love a Pre-eclampsia emergency birth story with a good outcome for mother and child [wipes tear from eye]

DarrellRivers · 03/01/2011 12:48

Farming v dangerous surely with tractors and cows and all that mud/high winds etc
[suburban gal]

COCKadoodledooo · 03/01/2011 12:52

How many Archers threads are there on here?! Posted this on another earlier: "I don't think Nige is dead. I think it's a smokescreen, and summat happens to Hellin and/or the baby. Might just be wishful thinking re Hellonearth though Wink"

BoffinMum · 03/01/2011 12:55

In our village (or nearby) I know of:

At least two wife swap intensely complicated relationship thingies involving mini stately homes and the like.

Several major health dramas, including the mystery leukaemia outbreak, the village pneumonia crisis, not to mention at least two dramatic birth situations and some comparatively young people dying in various places.

One or two dramatic road accidents, including fatalities.

The village drug addict saga.

I could go on but I would out myself Wink. Seriously, t'Archers is nothing.

BoffinMum · 03/01/2011 13:17

Maybe Nigel discovers he has superhero qualities and actually starts flying over the village?

SnowMuchToBits · 03/01/2011 14:42

I don't think Nigel will be dead. I think he will be paralysed and confined to a wheelchair, and Lizzie will have to look after him, or maybe she won't have time as she will have to work all the time, so they will have to employ full time carers which they won't be able to afford, and they will have to sell Lower Loxley......

LillianGish · 03/01/2011 14:50

I agree Snowmuch - especially as the episode is supposed to have repercussions for years to come. However, Vanessa Whitburn did let something slip about a birth and a death. Maybe Helen and baby aren't out of the woods yet. Can't wait to listen tonight - I love the Archers.

rosietoes · 03/01/2011 14:50

Said on Radio1 Archers' producer let slip there was a birth and death in the works!

LadyLapsang · 03/01/2011 15:13

I hope Nigel doesn't die, much more interesting storyline if he is paralysed; anyway can't think of many young - middle aged people in Ambridge with physical disabilities apart from Joe with his farmer's lung.

poppyknot · 03/01/2011 15:17

LadyLapsang - my sister came up with this one too.

Big falling out between David and Lizzie as he suggested going up on the roof. Lizzie's frail heart gives out. Jill quietly fades away as her family breaks down. Prolonged Archer agony.

NetworkGuy · 03/01/2011 17:19

Just heard a bit of Today (around 07.15) where someone had determined by the length of the "Aaaaaaaagggghhh", that dear old Nige must have fallen around 44m [120+ feet] which seemed rather high! :)

CuddlyNotFat · 03/01/2011 17:36

I think they've killed Nige off, because he was the face behind the voice in the Radio Times!

I also think that David topples off too and ends up in a wheelchair, and Lizzie's heart gives out, leaving them all in a bit of a pickle!

Why couldn't they have celebrated the anniversary with something happy? I think there's enough doom and gloom around as it is, and usually The Archers offered a bit of light-ish relief...

gingeroots · 03/01/2011 18:46

Mmm - Mummy's brooch linked to the curse of the Pargeters ?
I'm betting several days of Nigel in a coma ,David arrested for ....climbing without due care and attention ,Lizzie having a stroke .
Orphan twins ,Lower Loxely becomes rehab centre .
Pippa never gets to go off to Uni - has to run farm while David has breakdown.
Unless he fell as well - tho that would be same outcome .
Lizzie remarries to Kenton !

Pendulum · 03/01/2011 18:56

gingeroots I think lizzie and kenton are bother and sister!

CognitiveDissident · 03/01/2011 19:01

why let that stand in the way of a juicy storyline?
