I don't think the scriptwriters would want to get rid of any of the annoying characters.

Could be Peggy smothers poor old Jack so she can run away to be with Con.

Vanessa Whitburn said in a recent Guardian article that the 60th anniversary involves 2 storylines - one which has been going for ages and one which is a total shock

So:

Going for ages we have Ed/Emmur/Will/Nik - jealousy and torment galore. We have Helen and the blessed child, we have Jolene grieving, Kate buggering off and we have Kathy stressing about Jamie going off the rails.

Out of nowhere - who knows? IT could be something totally understated. If Ruth Archer's cancer came back untreatable that would rock the village alright.

if the scriptwriters get rid of Jazzer, Lilian or Matt I am flouncing from the Archers.

Oh and I don't think that:

Clarrie will die - too much like Christmas death of Betty

Antything would happen to Lizzie - we don't get that lucky and she's already had a couple of brushes with death

Any suicide will take place. They've done suicide.

That scene with Helen and Tony is the first time I have ever liked Helen. I bloody cheered her on!

John had just asked Hayley to marry him I think,she had said no ,can't remember why he drove off in tractor but tractor keeled over and squashed John.

The death I always remeber was Marks when he hit Caroline's horse ,I can remember sobbing,they were in the middle of IVF I think and she found out she was pregant after he died.

I don't think it will be the grundys or Helen - too obvious. I did think it would be something to do with babies but eastenders seem to be doing that one.

So I also think its something to do with Lower Loxley - I reckon Lewis makes a mistake and there's a big accident as he suddenly seems to be omnipresent.

Whatever happens will be something that could happen iyswim. TA is very rooted in reality. A serial killer/massacre is very unlikely. A fire or road traffic accident is VERY much more likely. Also farming accidents - but they've done that rather with John.
I think there's a good chance Helen will give birth - early but ok apart from the PND which is definately coming her way.

There was also a lot of emphasis on Nigel sorting out insurance and health and safety stuff - for the christmas stuff.

I could see it being wor Ruth but I don't think it really would SATTC. I think the scriptwriters would see it like that perhaps, because she is a sainted Archer, but I reckon it has to be someone doing something Very Bad to someone else to qualify.
I think it can't be the Will n Ed saga, no matter how well signposted as they've already done the gamekeeper/shotgun bit (I don't remember Hellin actually marrying Greg btw - did I miss a happy event?). Can't be standard farming accident after John.
Had been suggested on the Archers MBs that it might be Helen losing baby (or it not really existing), going even more mad and kidnapping Emma's etc etc.. Think the timing would be dodgy though.
As pps have said though it's not really very "Archers" to be STTC!

Agree with catinthehat's fire harking back to Grace's death. Fire at Lower Loxley (caused by Kenton) killing Tony as he runs back into the building to rescue baby present for Helen.

Then turns out that Lizzie and Nigel are not insured (thanks to traceybath for nudge ), plunging them into poverty. Their hideous twins are forced to attend local state school...

PS Love the idea that Helen's baby doesn't really exist! That would be a brill plot!

Yes, the "long term" plot must be Helen-related. Otherwise, she wouldn't have got pregnant so quickly, to allow her to give birth (albeit early) in January. We would have had weeks of trying to conceive otherwise.

I don't think Helem will die,Pat and Tony have alreadt lost one child ,two would be too much,I think it will be Lizzie or maybe David
