Or vice versa?

Which would you rather?

Helen goes into labour whilst the family decorates the xmas tree and baby john is born, delivered by Tony, on xmas eve.

Think Nigel is going to be for the chop, run over by a candle light sleigh ride perhaps

GrendelsMum · 21/12/2010 11:20

Went to a party last night where this was the major subject of discussion.

Current front runners are

  • Lizzie's heart gives way and she dies. Nigel keeps the family and the business together, weeping all the while. Will he send the children to Felpersham Village College or to the Cathedral School? Kenton stays on and 'helps' with hilarious results, Etc etc. Justification = we've suddenly heard a lot from that family, and they're not normally so prominant.
  • Linda dies. Justification = Harry is shaping up to be replacement Linda.
  • Clarrie dies. Justification = Nik is clearly being turned into a replacement Clarrie, holding the warring Grundys together, valiantly catching chickens, attending WI meetings, etc.
  • David dies, killed by the hay thieves. Justifications as given on other thread.
Cretaceous · 21/12/2010 11:40

One has to be to do with Helen, as they've been building this up for months.

Tony dies trying to get Helen something acceptable for the baby - something that Helen hasn't already bought... We've been made to empathise with him, so he's got to go. Helen blames herself, and doesn't bond with the baby as a result, leading to lots more (miserable) storylines.

Then as a longshot, how about milkman Harry turns out to be Jolene's lovechild, so Fallon can't marry him (oops, forgot to mention he proposes to Fallon at the pantomime...)

Hope it's not a suicide, though (Joleen/Kathy?), or something else ghastly. That would be awful.

fishie · 21/12/2010 11:43

oh i'd love lizzie's heart to give out.

i hate everyone on the archers so much, what fun it is.

tim b (david archer) told me on twitter that the actress playing helen is due to have a rl baby in march so she's not going to be around for long anyway.

R4 · 21/12/2010 11:49

isis Hellin is not a lesbian. She was at one stage, believe it or not, married. To a gamekeeper who was, believe it or not, even more of a misery than Willyum.
That is how we know, if there is a stand-off between Will and Ed, that Will will win. To lose one gamekeper may be regarded as misfortune; to lose two looks like carelessness.Wink

campocaro · 21/12/2010 11:52

Fishie- actresses do sometimes carry on working after they have given birth-like the rest of us...! I think the Helen and Tony war is a red herring and the big story will be one David and Ruth's family hurt by an intruder or some kind of accident/heart problem at LL.

ShiningWit · 21/12/2010 14:16

Love this thread ... here are my odds on favourites

Grundy sibling feuds (yawn surely no more of these) - Will and Ed shout at each other a bit over a half-plucked turkey. Nic steps in as the voice of reason, dies from a freak accident when turkey giblets hurled in the heat of the moment startle Bartleby into stampeding

Pargiter family crisis - Nigel and Lizzie have a bit of a tiff about schools as Nigel cannot admit Freddie is just like him (nice but dim). Nigel gets sick of Jill poking her beak in, runs her over in the car whilst wearing Titcombe's hat as disguise. Titcombe sent down in miscarriage of justice (invokes his right to remain silent throughout).

Kate and Phoebe - continue world's most boring and awkward Skype conversations, whole of Archers listenership dies of boredom

Helen and Tony - Tony reaches breaking point, is found roaming the village rending his clothes and clutching the baby mobile, playing the tune over and over again whilst sobbing "I don't know what to do" with a touching catch in his voice. Drowns himself in village pond. Helen just continues being evil and mad (because they can't make something awful happen to the baby can they? really hope not.)

Kathy and Jamie. Kathy suggests a "fun night in" or a "fun night out", "just the two of" them, once too often. Jamie offs her with Brian's shotgun and no-one notices, let alone cares.

Ruiarh - gets fed up of a)being ignored by everyone and b) having the most ridiculous accent about 3 years after his mother died and runs away. No one notices, let alone cares.

David Archer - goes to confront the hay thief who turns out to be cowman Sam wreaking revenge by introducing a fungal disease into their crops before running off to America with Pip.

shareastory · 21/12/2010 15:19

Kenton and Jolene getting far too familiar, he'll end up in theshower and then as host of the Bull!

duvetdays · 21/12/2010 15:19

Ambridge nuked by North Korea in freak military exercise

duvetdays · 21/12/2010 15:32

Helen and Vicky only survivors of tragedy. Helen gives birth to triplets - two of them bull calves which Vicky raises as her own. The third baby is a little girl who sounds just like Helen and repeats everything she says back to her.

NigellaTufnel · 21/12/2010 15:43

How was Hellin nasty to the lovely Hailey? (That was before I joined the middle classes and started to listen.)

I reckon if anything kicks off with the Grundy boys, it will show them in their true colours, i.e. if Nic or Will is in danger, Ed will save them, but if Ed is in danger Will will let him die. Cue Clarrie and Eddie and Joe realising that Will is in fact a poisonous little shit.

But my money is either on Pip or David getting shot, or Lizzie copping it.

Just a thought. can anyone remember when the big LL Archers shindig is, is it on the 2nd?

Merryhohohomammoth · 21/12/2010 15:54

No Alien landing them, sort of 'men in black' bug man scenario at Broofield Grin

Tolalola · 21/12/2010 16:02

Hellen was HORRIBLE to Hayley after John died.

I can't remember exactly how it all happened, (sure someone with a better memory will be along soon) but as far as I remember Helen came swanning back from somewhere or other after the death, basically told Pat to pull herself together, was horrible to Hayley and told her that she never would have been accepted as John's wife anyway and then nicked the business off her.

I think the LL party is on the 2nd, so my bet is still on something involving that lot.

ragged · 21/12/2010 16:31

Does Lizzie have a heart? Confused Wink

I don't think HELL and Greg were married(?)

I don't think Tony has been horrid to HELL-- I get fed up of everyone tiptoeing around Helen. It's like nobody is allowed to tell her like it is (or will be).

Seems pretty obvious to me...something awful will happen to H+baby, HELL will go completely mental (PND story), and hopefully top herself leaving others to pick up the pieces (a la Greg). At least I hope so, Coz I really can't handle a long term story line on her martyrdom!!

blackeyedsusan · 21/12/2010 16:31

I must have a memory like a sieve. I clearly remember John's accident, but what happened afterwards is a complete blank. Was Hayley going out with John? How can I not remember?

R4 · 21/12/2010 16:32

LOL @ shining.
Especially love "invokes his right to remain silent" and "No one notices, let alone cares".

ragged · 21/12/2010 16:40

IIRC...
Hayley and John had just had a big bust up because he cheated with his ex (the dodgy single mum Sharon) and Hayley was just about getting back together with him, but he was very upset and distracted, hence why tractor accident happened. Wasn't it Xmas eve or so, is that anniversary coming??

Roy and Hayley got together as a couple in the wake of John's death because they were both working together to fullfill his business dreams (?). Tom sort of took over from them.

Was HELLen annoying or odd as a child, too? She was pretty abrupt when she came back from Ireland.

carocaro · 21/12/2010 16:44

And as for that bastard Tony, trying to get her a nice present and try and talk to her about the donor sperm baby. Helen just announced it over dinner, like she had bought a new sofa or something. She is so selfish, she better start kissing ass right now to build up her bank of babysitting!

carocaro · 21/12/2010 16:47

Shining Wit - just fabulous!!

SpringHeeledJack · 21/12/2010 16:48

roffle at ShiningWit

I think I love you

AppleHEAD · 21/12/2010 16:49

Will shoots Ed.... But also I agree something might happen to Nigel or Lizzie.... they have been loved up lately. Bit then there has been a lot of death lately.., I'm thinking wounding or impaling???
It is driving me mad bloody Christmas hurry up so it can be January...... I REALLY...news to get a life!

SpringHeeledJack · 21/12/2010 16:50

caro as if Helen will require a babysitter! surely she will hover full time over the hapless babe till it's ready for school, then decide to home ed it rather than hand it over to anyone else like what I did

SpringHeeledJack · 21/12/2010 16:54

...have we had skating rink carnage yet?

oh, pleeeease

Re Helen and Hayley, Tom's business was originally started by John. After he was killed Tom and Hayley ran it together, but then Helen came back home and saw off Hayley 'cos she wasn't 'one of the family'.

Why is there no snow in Ambridge ATM???
