Tell me about living in Mold?

Hi
Am looking to move near to Chester and looking for locations. Any local knowledge would be greatly appreciated!
Daily commute will be to Ellesmere Port and looking for detached house up to £640k with at least 3 beds, off street parking and large garden. Don’t need any schools. Any others area suggestions welcome!

Oh you need to live on the Wirral, OP! It's much nicer than Mold. You'd get a fab house for that price and Chester and Liverpool are within 20 minutes.

Lookingatlocations · 06/01/2020 21:20

Hi any suggestions for areas in the Wirral?

If you want somewhere very quiet, have a look at Caerwys - it's a lovely village with two pubs and a couple of shops. That's it Grin

HollowTalk · 06/01/2020 21:23

On the Wirral, look at Heswall, Neston and Willaston.

Jins · 06/01/2020 21:25

I’ve lived on the Wirral and in Mold and slightly preferred Mold for the market town vibe and general sense of community but the commute to Ellesmere Port will get you down in time.

Your budget would get you into Chester itself or the villages around it. Otherwise the commute from the Helsby area to Ellesmere Port is pretty good.

Anywhere on the Wirral near to the M53 corridor as well

Ness is lovely, also Caldy and West Kirby.

It depends what kind of place you want to live in. I'd probably start with Heswall.

Burton, Neston, Ness, Parkgate - all on the Wirral.

Thanks for all the suggestions! Can anyone tell me anything about Mold? Someone who I will be working with recommended it ( had been looking at Hawarden but this person had lived there for a while and said it wasn’t very friendly).

You could get a nice property in Handbridge in Chester for that budget. On the river, very green.

Fightthebear · 06/01/2020 21:52

Mold is a nice market town, close to amazing green areas (Moël Famnau/Loggerheads). Great theatre (Theatre Clwyd). Much less moneyed than Chester.

Lookingatlocations · 06/01/2020 21:53

Hollowtalk look at this one in Caerwys!

If you’re after a village, some of the areas east of Chester would be a quicker commute to Ellesmere Port. Eg, Willington, Kelsall, Delemere. Tarporley would be a smart and possibly stifling option.

Lookingatlocations · 06/01/2020 21:56

But 30 miles so too far unfortunately.

Lookingatlocations · 06/01/2020 21:57

Fighthebear is Tarporley stifling?

Not to bothered about moneyed as I am definitely not! Sorry to sound thick but I’d Mold very different as in Wales rather than England?

I live near Mold and teach in Hawarden. Of the two I'd prefer to live in Mold due to the shops, market and services there are as there's not a lot of those in Hawarden.

£600k will get you a nice house in Mold area, but there aren't that many in that price range for sale.

Is The Tivoli still in Mold?

Good times....

Fightthebear · 06/01/2020 22:01

Tarporley would be too posh for me, bit Cheshire set!

DrMadelineMaxwell · 06/01/2020 22:01

There are benefits to living in Wales.

Free prescriptions.

Better amounts of student loans/grants.

But some disadvantages too. DC would have to take Welsh as a second language all the way up to GCSE. And waiting times at hospitals are longer than in England in many cases.

PeakingDuck · 06/01/2020 22:01

No, it was just outside Mold, wasn’t it?

DrMadelineMaxwell · 06/01/2020 22:01

The Tivoli is in Buckley, my home town!

PeakingDuck · 06/01/2020 22:04

The Tivoli is in Buckley, my home town!

Ah yes, Buckley, that’s it.

I spent pretty much every weekend in 1995/96 there!

Lookingatlocations · 06/01/2020 22:07

DrM looked at that house on Rightmove but wasn’t sure what was behind it in the satellite pic - pub/ farm/ business park?.. nice house what’s the area like?

Pieceofpurplesky · 06/01/2020 22:10

Frodsham would be perfect - 15 minutes to Ellesmere Port, 10 minutes from Delamere Forest and good train links.
Loads of houses in your range, good community, schools, pubs and restaurants

DrMadelineMaxwell · 06/01/2020 22:13

I think it's the grounds of the Alun high school. That's what it looks like in google maps, anyway.
