Hi
Am looking to move near to Chester and looking for locations. Any local knowledge would be greatly appreciated!
Daily commute will be to Ellesmere Port and looking for detached house up to £640k with at least 3 beds, off street parking and large garden. Don’t need any schools. Any others area suggestions welcome!

In answer to your questions
Tarporley does not have good transport links
Moms is OK, some good countryside, a couple of good places to eat but a little remote. I lived there for a while with a friend and found it a bit far out
Kelsall - see Tarporley

This is nice, Wirral area and very close to e.port

What about Northwich?

Could push the budget up to £700k but doesn’t seem to offer any more options as all other houses seem to be around 850+.

I personally think I would want to be closer to Chester than Mold, I love Chester/Cheshire area

Your children will be weeping with boredom in their teenage years if you live in Mold. (I would personally love it) Be somewhere on a direct train to somewhere.

Nononononono33 · 06/01/2020 22:24

Mold is my hometown and it is a lovely place to live. Yes it would be a commute to E Port but I don’t think it’s too arduous - maybe 40 mins max. I drive way more daily! £600k+ will buy you a lot such as: www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/fullscreen/image-gallery.html?propertyId=72140500&photoIndex=2.

There are some lovely villages just outside Mold e.g. Pantymwyn, Cilcain, Penyffordd and Hope (latter two would be on the “right” side for the commute). As pp have said there are good shops in town, and it’s close to Chester and Broughton Park for shopping, Theatr Clwyd is great, some good restaurants (not vast amounts of choice but it’s not a large town) and loads of walking and cycling to be done. The pop’s previous Rightmove link is for a house about a quarter of a mile from town. Generally a good area, near a high school. Not quite sure what is very close by that property though.

Lastly Mold isn’t very Welsh due to its being near the border. You would hear some Welsh spoken but not a huge amount. Yy to free prescriptions though. Note one of the town’s two secondary schools is Welsh medium.

Thanks for all the suggestions! Looking at Rightmove I’m not sure the houses in Mold although slightly cheaper would make up for the longer commute?

Northwich to E Port would be a horrible commute. With your budget I would be looking at Chester itself - any reason why you don’t want to live there? I lived in Upton in Chester and can be in the Port in 10 minutes. Your budget would get you a gorgeous house here!

Lookingatlocations · 06/01/2020 22:49

Thanks Bettybyebye haven’t been to Northwich so wasn’t sure, really like Chester but thought we would get a lot for our budget. We are coming from the Scottish system where you offer over, can we offer under the asking price? Not sure if this happens in Chester market?

OP posts:
bettybyebye · 06/01/2020 22:52

Yes we offer under asking price here. We bought in Chester 6 years ago and the house was on for £200k. Our initial offer was £170k and we bought it for £185k in the end. You could definitely buy in Chester with your budget.
What are you looking for exactly? Do you need to think about schools as well?

Lookingatlocations · 06/01/2020 23:05

No schools as kids grown up. Looking for detached large garden 3 beds and off street parking. Bonus would be private garden or good view!

So could
I offer say 5% under the asking price and not offend the sellers?

For commute to Ellesmere port I would personally look Burton, Puddington for small village feel. Saughall and mollington for village yet close to city feel. And Parkgate, little Neston and ness you could get a great house for that budget with a view over the dee estuary towards the Welsh mountains (google Neston marshes)

Lookingatlocations · 06/01/2020 23:23

Thanks Rhica will do.

maddy68 · 06/01/2020 23:36

Some really lovely places in mold , nice restaurants too, agree the Wirral is worth a look but again good places and not so good

Rhica · 06/01/2020 23:49

With regards to offers you really need to do your research as its a funny area at the moment. Neston is hugely over priced at the moment so 10% below asking price is probably still to high. Then in Saughall and mollington some properties are gone within a day. So asking price is appropriate. But the ones in your budget don't tend to be moving so prob make an offer

Lookingatlocations · 07/01/2020 00:05

Thanks for market info- this house went under offer in a couple of days so didn’t even have a chance to view!

Although that’s a lovely house, I would say it’s not the nicest location anyway

Lookingatlocations · 07/01/2020 09:49

Thanks Bettybyebye that’s good to know. Hoping to view more houses this week.

Hi I had looked at that house on Rightmove- looks great. Is Alvanley a bit remote?
Thanks

OP posts:
Pieceofpurplesky · 07/01/2020 12:51

Alvanley is a few minutes from Frodsham which has a range of shops, pubs, restaurants. The house is in walking distance with the White Lion pub which is lovely. Trains and buses from Frodsham.

Lookingatlocations · 07/01/2020 13:07

Thanks. Do you know if the house is a reasonable asking price for the area?
