Tell me about living in Mold?

Hi
Am looking to move near to Chester and looking for locations. Any local knowledge would be greatly appreciated!
Daily commute will be to Ellesmere Port and looking for detached house up to £640k with at least 3 beds, off street parking and large garden. Don’t need any schools. Any others area suggestions welcome!

Like the look of Upton but very few properties on the market.

Moel Famau is the correct spelling. No diaeresis.

The Tiv is in Buckley. I'd avoid Buckley as it is a Pottery area, and has its own character.
I'd definitely be looking at the Chester or Wirral areas.

If you live in Mold, it helps to speak Welsh so that you can call it the much nicer name (Yr Wyddgrug). It's got a good bit of culture and a decent theatre.

I would refuse to live in Caerwys because of the mangling of the name. (it doesn't sound like Care-wis in Welsh)

I'd look at places along the A55 for the glorious view of the Dee.
The Deeside area and the Mersey side of the Wirral aren't the nicest in the area.

Very nice area of Chester but that property is hideous has been on the market for a long time and definitely seems overpriced to me...

Never mind the free prescriptions isn`t the Betsi Cadwaladr health under special measures and has been for four years. Is the NHS in the Chester Wirral area any better.

I know there's not much on the market in Upton but I certainly wouldn't say no to either of those Upton Lane houses that are backing onto the golf course Grin But saying that, I'd also have expected them to be closer to 580-600k than 650...

The last house you linked OP - the area is nice but i’d say the wrong side of Chester for getting to E Port as you’d have to get across town which would add a fair bit to your commute

The Lache isn't the best area.
Not keen on Saltney.
Broughton is in Wales.
I'm not sure what's in the flood plain around there.

Am definitely interested in the 2 Upton Lane houses and agree after looking at sold prices think they should be nearer £600k, wonder if either are motivated sellers? I think north of the river would be an easier commute?

The easiest commute is from the Hoole Village/Upton side of Chester. Straight along motorway or A41. Backford isn’t a bad location - not sure what’s on the market at the moment. Mollington too.

Guilden Sutton has the pub/shop/community thing. Mickle Trafford too. Both easy commutes to EP

I've not RTFT in detail so apologies if it's been mentioned, but have you looked at Gresford? There are three pubs in walkable distance, a Spa and Co-op and a lovely bakers and a decent Chinese restaurant. There's also a duck pond, primary school and church. Oh and a pretty good chippy! Only a 20 minute drive to Chester, if that, and regular buses too. Considering it's not a particularly big village it's very well catered for!

I live in Hawarden and the people here are nothing but lovely! I've never met anyone unfriendly here. It's a lovely village.

Haven’t heard of Gresford thanks for the suggestion.
Re Hawarden haven’t actually visited it yet and was the opinion of new acquaintance- just shows how useful local knowledge on here is!

Would Rossett/Marsford be a reasonable commute?

I wouldn't want to do it; bit longer than necessary and I believe the A483 is prone to congestion.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned Burton near Neston, but am viewing a house on Vicarage Lane and wonder if anybody has local knowledge?
Thanks!

Ah yes the Tiv! 😁. I spent my teenage years in mold, out towards loggerheads is nice. Town can be a little rough in the evening, fine in the day. Plenty of Scouse Welsh people live there. Very friendly. Decent place. Good market.

I work in Mold and cover a lot of the villages - it is BEAUTIFUL.

Have you thought about Higher Kinnerton? Lower Kinnerton, too!

I used to live in Upton - you can hear the M53 if you're near the zoo. Upton Lane isn't so bad but it is a busy road with horrible speed bumps and the pub isn't great.

Hi
Actually viewing 2 houses in Upton Lane this week so will keep this in mind. Is the not great pub the one on the main road I think it’s called something like the Wheatsheaf? A collegue recommended Tarporley for good pubs etc?
