Just straight larder unit instead of the corner one. Will still be bloody amazing and I cannot wait!

Flooring- thinking engineered wood- do I go unfinished or not?! I really like this one, will it be difficult to oil? And how do you choose an oil??

May I just offer my tip? Please don’t buy appliances before you are planning to use them. We waited a month for our dishwashers to be fitted and now we cannot have a straightforward return as it was not with 30 days so we have had to have 2 visits from engineers before they deem it returnable. The microwave will just be returned (although that has not been without its problems.)

soakedat3 · 29/08/2019 18:34

Oh no Jane! And yes good tip. I wish I'd not ordered so soon too as they've been sitting around for a month due to delays in build. Now I'm also anxious about them working!

gingercat02 · 29/08/2019 18:36

Hello extenders. I've been lurking for at least 2 threads as we are considering 2 storey rear extension and I'm a bit nosey We have recently painted our living room Dulux Egyptian Cotton. Its a good neutral you may want to consider.
Sorry for butting in 😊

MyNameIsJane · 29/08/2019 21:48

Join us @gingercat02, you’re not butting in! I was on here from July 2018 before any work started in January 2019.

I’ve picked up loads from the extension compadres on here. One request - we love a good photo so snap and share before, during and after the build! Smile

avocuddl · 29/08/2019 23:04

Oh such a good tip! I was thinking of getting appliances now but think I'm just getting ahead of myself!

Welcome @gingercat02 you're not butting in! Everyone is welcome!

chopc · 30/08/2019 07:16

@MyNameIsJane thank you for the larder pic. Looks great

I was thinking the same about the appliances but due to them arriving from multiple places and then you need to check they have sent the correct product etc, I have bitten the bullet and ordered ahead

chopc · 30/08/2019 07:19

How many plug sockets in the kitchen? I am trying to avoid having any on the back wall where the splashback will go as I like a mirror splashback and want to avoid cut outs.

I will have an island which will be my main prep area abc this will have plug points

In addition I will keep my small appliances eg toaster, microwave, rice cooker etc in the larder cupboard and hopefully use them there - so will have several plug points there

Is there something I am not thinking of?

gleegeek · 30/08/2019 11:10

Loving all the pictures! Thanks for the larder pic - we want a corner larder but Howdens don't seem to do one...Apparently I can have the carcass but kitchen fitter would need to create the shelves themselves.
We now have footings! Had a panic that we could smell gas but builder assures me that's just the smell of new concreteGrin
Today the bricklayer is here - he takes over from the footings/drainage guys. New people to get to know!

@chopc coffee maker? Kettle (or are you having a hot tap?)
somewhere to plug in your phone (get a USB socket)

@WhereDoesThisToiletGo thank you! Forgot coffee maker

WorrisomeHeart · 30/08/2019 17:52

Back from several days camping to find a very small amount of work done onsite and an apologetic email from my version of BBB. I am still relaxed (or sun stricken) enough to let it pass but will be very cross if they don’t sort it out next week.
It was very nice to come back to our lovely kitchen though. Love the photos of the corner pantries.

Re paint colours - I am contemplating Timeless for the kitchen - we have it in our lounge with the chimney breast done in Just Walnut which blends really nicely. I have the quote from the decorator for the kitchen now as well which is only £550+ materials which seems really reasonable to me. Just need to see if there is anything left in the pot once the final builders fees have been paid.

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 30/08/2019 18:13

We're off tomorrow for 10 days, and I've made it clear in writing to builder what the minimum I expect to be done while we are elsewhere. Preferably the really noisy filthy stuff like lifting the floor tiles.
We've got a delay with steels because of changing the plans but there's plenty of other stuff to be done.
Spent today setting up temporary kitchenette in dining room as I am hoping my existing kitchen will be too hideous to use once we get back!

Noroof · 30/08/2019 19:31

The tiles were stacked on the roof today and the guys will be back to lay them tomorrow.
We had a panic with water coming in on tues night which resulted in the builder coming out at 9pm and fixing it. It's been dry ever since thankfully.
We are trying to take rooms back... a lot of the building materials were in my downstairs bedroom but I've made them move stuff so I can hopefully finish painting and get ds back in there.

Noroof · 30/08/2019 19:33

Oh and we are coming up to the 8 week mark next week. I think it'll be near 9 but we will be finished!

I'm soooooo glad we went for the extension. We had actually decided not to go ahead at one point as the quotes were far dearer than any one thought they would be.

soakedat3 · 30/08/2019 19:53

@Noroof - I honestly think you have the most efficient builders ever! Are you planning on getting your final building control inspection soon? I will wait to hear your experience with it as I keep panicking about it due to the changes to the roof needing an amendment.

We are on week 12 of our "8 week" build. I think we have a week left not including patio and an extra velux to the old utility area. I am quite tired of it all now.

New Dad was templating and cutting some worktop for the kitchen today. But he has a cold now so am taking his "See you in the morning" with a pinch of salt... I really hope he gets a good nights sleep and comes in the morning as we are so SO close to be able to use the kitchen!

Enjoy your holiday @WhereDoesThisToiletGo. Love that you have left BBB your must do list. :D

Ok. This might be a really stupid question is there a difference between a larder cupboard and just a really big floor to ceiling cupboard?

Noroof I'm amazed your builders have achieved all that in the time scale!! Fantasic.

Noroof · 30/08/2019 20:17

Ds having confidence in the roof😀

Noroof · 30/08/2019 20:21

Yes my builders have been amazing. They're all really lovely guys and they're here from 8 till 430-5 every single day. Each day there's progress that is noticeable.
It's a huge leap of faith as we've never so much as done a kitchen before nevermind all this. I guess you just have to trust and hope for the best

soakedat3 · 30/08/2019 21:24

@Isittheend, good question. I have been calling mine larders as they will have food and that seems to be what the kitchen people call it.

LOL @ your son Noroof! Looks dry enough now though. :)

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 30/08/2019 21:52

They are identical, but if you call it a larder you can charge more... Grin

Isittheend · 30/08/2019 22:00

Ahh. Thank you. I was pondering (out loud) if there was some kind of clever cooling system built in then dh pointed out that would be a fridge! Grin

avocuddl · 30/08/2019 22:05

It's cause we are all so fancy @Isittheend 💁🏻‍♀️

lovelyjubilly · 30/08/2019 22:15

@Isittheend it sounds like we are in an identical position!
Had the builder round a couple of weeks ago to do the initial survey and he is currently drawing up plans for us to review. Hoping to start around Feb/March pending a successful planning application.
We are also demolishing a single-storey extension in order to build a two-storey (living space downstairs and 2 bedrooms+en-suite above).
Daunting!!

Isittheend · 30/08/2019 22:25

@lovelyjubilly, it's very exciting but yes daunting especially as I've really been the one who has persuaded dh that this is the right thing to do so now I feel the pressure of it going smoothly and turning out well.
Good luck with getting your planning. We're hoping it's a bit of a formality as others in the street have done similar.
