Hi, can I join in please? We have just had meeting with architect to go through design options which he is now going to draw for planning application.
In reality we probably won't get started till spring but I'd love to read as much as possible before then.
Thanks.

Noroof · 24/08/2019 04:23

I can only dream of no dust SmileHmm

soakedat3 · 24/08/2019 09:02

Hurrah @TheFatberg! Are you pleased with everything?

We had 3 brickies and a builder at 8am. Electrician and groundsman later on. New dad really wants done! But oh thinks he's being optimistic for finishing next week. Can but hope!

Hi @isittheend. Enjoy the dust free planning stage. Its fun!

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 24/08/2019 11:48

@soakedat3 finally some non-invisible brickies!
We have not resorted to working weekends yet, but it may happen...

Went into kitchen last night and went to turn light on...the switch AND the wall it was mounted on was no longer there!
Fortunately we still have an operational switch by the back door!

Spent this morning emptying kitchen wall cabinets, but have now run out of boxes and crates, so need to go out and get some more. This might involve a trip to Home Bargains to see what @MyNameIsJane has left on the shelves...

@Isittheend Welcome!
I lurked here for a while and read back on several previous threads.
Apart from being a refuge from the chaos and a support system for whining, these threads are a great source of information and advice.
I'm not sure I would have thought about household insurer needing to know about works if I hadn't read it here.
I've also got at least 2 items in planned kitchen totally on recommendations read here. If I don't like them I will be chasing up the relevant MNer!

Enjoy your home bargains trip! Be sure to show us what you got!

My builders have asked to work tomorrow and Monday. I don't have a problem but is this allowed? Anyone else worked Sunday's?!

soakedat3 · 24/08/2019 14:01

Ours have worked Sundays but only a couple of times. Just because they ask and say they will work Sunday doesn't mean they will...

Think this is the final bit for brickies. It feels like the end is near now there isn't a moat around our house.

I put the pendants intended for bbar into utility. They look good!

I think Sunday and BH is allowed but my local council specifies NO noisy work on such days.
So maybe some gentle tiling?

Isittheend · 24/08/2019 22:31

Thanks. I read all of thread 2 last night! Great work everyone!

@soakedat3 I have a lovely new file I am putting all my lovely planning and ideas in! 😁
@WhereDoesThisToiletGo yes all those bits that nobody really mentions would be great to pick up.

I'm so excited to get to this stage as my DJ took some convincing that it was the right thing to do.

We're knocking down an existing single story garage and a few other odd rooms and rebuilding to create an office, utility room, kitchen diner then upstairs a new master bedroom with ensuite.

Although neither of us have any skills we're hoping to have a go at some things to try to keep costs down (quite fancy a bit of low level demolition!) Grin

soakedat3 · 25/08/2019 07:53

That sounds exciting @isittheend! It's not often you get the chance to design so many rooms to suit your self.

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 25/08/2019 08:03

Does anyone think it would be useful to have a separate "resources and tips" thread to help others /us survive an extension?
There's some amazing useful info I've gained from these threads - could we condense these into a more compact thread?
I found The MN lessons learnt kitchen thread very useful when planning our kitchen

That sounds sensible. Maybe at the end of our builds we can ask do a post each with what we wished we had known?

Catquest1 · 25/08/2019 09:08

Can i just say ......... my disappearing plumber has finished!!!

Well i say finished but there's the small matter otlf a hole to drill for the tumble dryer and one of the radiators has a small drip but in terms of big stuff we are nearly there!!!

We are in our new bedroom with a working ensuite. Just the small matter of redecorating the rest of upstairs and tje hall stairs and landing. From the outside though we look finished - having the drive done has made a world of difference.

Catquest1 · 25/08/2019 09:11

And also no more bills (other than new carpets for the exisiting bedrooms and sorting the garden out which looks like Steptoes yard)!!

Had to postpone new front door as weve run out of money (having the fascias done on the original house)

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 25/08/2019 09:28

@Catquest1 yay!
Are you the poster who had a "completion bill" sent by builder when you still had a support holding up the front of your house?

OP posts:
Catquest1 · 25/08/2019 09:42

Yes that was us Grin

I didnt pay it til the pole was gone lol.

In hindsight we would have been finished an awful lot sooner if we had used our builders plumber rather than a friend but weve managed to have a new boiler because our friends prices were so much cheaper

Catquest1 · 25/08/2019 09:44

Ive told DH i want all the decorating done by christmas. We are on a mission this weekend to get as much done as possible

soakedat3 · 25/08/2019 10:59

You'll need to get your posh liquid soap out for insta pics of your own now catquest1! Woohoo!

Noroof · 25/08/2019 16:05

We are steadily painting the house... living room 1, dd's room and the kitchen are done apart from some gloss work. It's hard picking colours...I didn't want the same throughout like magnolia....

avocuddl · 25/08/2019 19:48

Yay Catquest! Great news!! Can we see pics??

What wall colours have you gone for noroof? Would I be mad to have white? 🤔

soakedat3 · 25/08/2019 20:58

Avo - New dad and his team have been painting our kitchen and utility white. It was meant to be a mist coat only as he hates painting but they've done several and it looks so nice and clean after all the mess we will keep it! Just plain trade white. It might also be because all our downstairs is white apart from the hall but it all ties in well. Smile

I think he uses it to keep them busy when waiting on delivery of missing kitchen parts!

We have almost all units in now. Waiting on a few bits still. Tiling to be done and still some electrics as apparently our circuit was "wierd". Electric velux works so far... I didn't realise it was so slow moving lol!

All the garden to be done. Getting there slowly.

So far everything fits. And my 1000 tall corner larder unit + 600 tall larder is as good as I thought it would be. Whoo hoo!

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 25/08/2019 21:07

@Noroof I'm going the other way - after having different colour rooms up until now, I think I want to go single colour throughout. But choosing is soooo difficult!
I thought I had The One but having painted just the study in it - Nutmeg White - I've decided it is a bit cool and purplish. (tho that might be the hideous lighting that DH chose for that room)
So I'm thinking about Dulux Natural Calico which I think will be fairly safe if somewhat dull.

OP posts:
Noroof · 25/08/2019 21:30

Living room is merida from b and q. I quite like it...its a mix of beige, grey and mushroom Grin

Isittheend · 25/08/2019 21:52

Woop Catquest1. How lovely to be near the finish!
@Noroof, my dh husband and I have an ongoing battle re paint. He wants everything magnolia and I want colour. Very difficult and we usually end up with a compromise that neither of us like 😫🤣

avocuddl · 25/08/2019 22:23

Natural calico is a good option

Thanks Soaked, that's good to know. Suppose we will get an idea if it's right after the mist coats!

Cannot wait for larder porn 😍
