I'm still missing cover doors for fridge and freezer, and backsplash not going in for another 2 weeks so "finished" photos must wait...

Got signed off by Building Control today!

Obviously they don't care about unfinished kitchens! Grin

Hooray! That's great news. Do you get certificates and stuff immediately or do you send off for them?
After a very quiet week with no-one bloody here, we've got a house full today! The floors are being sealed and prepped for tiling on Monday, so we're back washing up in the sink for the next few days. No washing machine etcHmm It's all the itty bitty bits that seem to take so long...apparently they're aiming to be completely out of our hair by Christmas Xmas Smile

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 06/12/2019 14:49

We got emailed something from the Council yesterday which I think is the certificate.
Other good news is that after waiting in on Saturday (non delivery) Monday (two out of three doors arrived) Tuesday (non delivery) and Wednesday (3rd door turns up) we finally hopefully have what is required to (mostly) finish the kitchen - fitters coming back next Tuesday.
I'm expecting a big apologetic bunch of flowers from kitchen supplier after this!

FINALLY got the missing doors on today!
Just for comparison here's a couple of CAD images and photos of the real thing for comparison. The dark blue alusplash goes in on monday

It’s looking so nice!

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 10/12/2019 19:11

The living room end - although finished- is very untidy so no photos!

@WhereDoesThisToiletGo that all looks amazing. I'm so jealous!

We are down to two builders now. Just seeing who we prefer and Who is offering the best value for money.
We are hoping to start February.

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 16/12/2019 20:31

Blueberry Alusplash installed today!

Beautiful 👍

lightlypoached · 16/12/2019 22:48

I can't even begin.

Small leak in the kitchen existing shower turned out to be a shoddy job by previous builders and the wall has disintegrated. A rebuild and insurance job so the shower is out of action for a week .

Much worse is that our kitchen supplier is bankrupt and our kitchen and £1000s of our money is gone with no redress. We have to rebuy the kitchen and appliances all over again. And so have a huge financial hole and a 2 month delay.

Crack remedial work not until after Xmas so living with cracks and dodgy windows.

The roof had to be redone in parts and one if the windows will not be here until next year.
Pointing is so shit is has to be redone a 2nd time

And last week all the electrics failed owing to an issue with the consumer unit. Now all the gang sockets we are using in the temp kitchen keep blowing so we are constantly juggling appliances in the tiny space.

Other than that our job is going swimmingly and I'm not at all stressed. No, not at all. Ffs.

When will it be over ? Really wishing I'd moved instead now. Sad

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 17/12/2019 10:11

@lightlypoached oh no, how dreadful! Just one of those things is bad enough.
Kitchen suppliers seem to standardly ask for money in advance with little security - I admit it was the thing that gave me sleepless nights.
Big hugs from me xxx

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 17/12/2019 16:56

@lightlypoached how did you pay (bastard) kitchen supplier? Any chance that it was by credit card?

OP posts:
lightlypoached · 17/12/2019 17:57

Unfortunately bank transfer for all of it, rookie error. I knew better but just was not thinking an under so much pressure at the time.

We've started to cut back by doing all the decorating ourselves over Xmas, removing some project scope , negotiated on the flooring and downgrading the hob. It's eaten all of the contingency is one go.

But I guess at least we had contingency .
the nice man in the flooring shop felt so sorry for me he gave me trade discount and saved us £600. I hugged him in the shop and had a little cry. He seemed quite pleased (about the hug)

Trying to be upbeat about it all as there is naff all I can do.

What I would say to anyone just starting out - pay at least some of each purchase by credit card. That way you are protected.

@WhereDoesThisToiletGo Yours looks lovely and is an inspiration , so ,thanks for that !

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 17/12/2019 18:09

Bummer. This is one lesson for the Hints and Tips thread...
I guess you can carry on with the project and maybe cut corners in some places with the idea of upgrading later when funds allow. Going for laminate worktops instead of granite /quartz etc. Try to amend your plans to allow for future upgrades - basic radiators but placed to allow the rads you really want to be installed in a year or two

I will be joining the 2020 thread.

Loft conversion rather than extension though - is that permitted or is this new foundations / extensions only? We did that particular nightmare in 2012 ( shudder)

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 24/12/2019 11:19

I think anything that generates mess, dust and stress qualifies!

We'll need a new thread for the New Year, so maybe @missfliss can start it once this one is full
