Yes to larder porn!

@soakedat3 that larder set up sounds amazing!! How many home bargains jars will they take?!?

Catquest1 · 26/08/2019 17:20

I tried the dulux natural calico for our new study but its a room that only gets morning light and it was just too dark. I went fir dulux Timeless instead as it was much brighter.

Ive spent today making a desk for the study. Dh has been fitting cupboards in the utility room.

Finally it feels like a house again!!

Noroof · 26/08/2019 17:30

Is timeless nice? I have a very bright front room... trying to decide whether to go light and airy or let it carry a stronger colour

Catquest1 · 26/08/2019 18:52

I really like it although ive used it in 2 different rooms and it looks different in each! In the study it looks white with a green hue and in the ensuite (opposite side of the house so west facing) it looks white with a blue tinge.

soakedat3 · 26/08/2019 19:53

I'll need to take a pic once the internal drawers are in.

Today was a non day for progress. No builders!! Despite a cheery "see you tomorrow" yesterday. Sigh!

avocuddl · 26/08/2019 19:59

Ah Soaked you're in the final straight though! Hopefully it's all done before you know it!

Could I asked for some advice re:costs?! How much have people been quoted for two story extensions? We're paying £12k for all the groundwork up to dpc for the 2 story side, does that sound okay?? Want to get an idea of what the total should be- thanks so much in advance!

avocuddl · 26/08/2019 20:08

Also, how messy are your front gardens? People keep walking passed and looking absolutely horrified. I'm sure they're being nosy too but I do feel bad for the neighbours! 😬

Noroof · 26/08/2019 20:23

Shockingly messy... they are very tidy builders and the house is cleaned every day before they leave but even at that my garden is covered in wood, scaffolding and stuff for the tip. I am going to have to returf the front next year which is fine as the grass need fixing anyway. I moved a few rose bushes before we got underway and I'm grateful I did as a few others less in the footpath have been damaged as well.
I'm also going to borrow a metal detector before I let the kids play in the back garden again as there are loads of very long nails all over the place.

soakedat3 · 26/08/2019 20:35

That's a good idea about the metal detector @noroof. I wish i knew how to get one on loan!

Avo, our back garden is really REALLY bad near the building. Basically a lot of mud as it has been a wet summer here. Lots of building material spread about. We have a v wide plot and an access road at our back gate. They made full use of that! Spread out. Had a little triangle of untouched grass but they have spread a large tarp now and collecting rubbish for next skip on it. Keep telling myself it was mainly moss anyway but can't help but wish it gone!

I also moved some plants out of the way and when I saw things too close to anything I really loved (like peonies) I moved them!

Ours is only single storey so I can't help with price - sure others will know.

MyNameIsJane · 26/08/2019 21:05

My front garden is horrendous. There’s been a toilet on the lawn since April/May- our fridge freezer was finally collected in July after being outside since February.

Noroof · 26/08/2019 21:43

I have one belonging to an archery club I'm a member which I'm going to borrow.
I've decided that summer is over as we are unable to access the garden for the children at all😀

Catquest1 · 26/08/2019 21:46

Our front and drive were so bad after we ended up having a new drive which we hasnt budgeted for. Back garden has been more salvageable with a bit of graft

soakedat3 · 26/08/2019 22:14

I'm not looking forward to seeing the damage the skips have done to the drive. Like you Catquest1 - not budgeted for! It may have to wait.

soakedat3 · 26/08/2019 22:17

(as an aside. DH just had mini strop re wine racks or lack of one. You'd think A WHOLE WINE COOLER would be enough but no. I said put a wine rack into the larder but again no. He doesn't like the box ones that kitchen companies usually show. FINALLY settled on a curved wire one to go into the open unit under the bbar that was only added in at the last minute for cook books. I SHOWED HIM THE PLAN MONTHS AGO!!!! OMG!)

Ahem.

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 27/08/2019 16:34

Requested that zip dust door was installed before more mess.
Came back to find said door duly taped in place.
Upside down.

I suspect I know which member of the team did this...

soakedat3 · 27/08/2019 16:47

Well Spiderman can get through at least :D

Noroof · 27/08/2019 18:10

Send help... I'm going batty and on the third trip to b and q today
....and I was there yesterday as well.

Moan: why the feck do paint samples NEVER look like the colour on the tin. And why when you put a sample on, buy the tin and then paint and entire wall does it not fecking resemble anything you actually wanted.
Rant rant rant

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 27/08/2019 20:16

I feel your pain. Life would be easier if we didn't know there was any other colour choice apart from white

OP posts:
WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 27/08/2019 20:37

I have painted half a dozen big pieces of wallpaper "Not quite White" in various shades.
Used the end of the tester to paint a blob on the wall.

It's beige.
Very beige.

avocuddl · 27/08/2019 20:46

Oh no wheredoes!! Do you want us to judge your whites?!

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 27/08/2019 21:15

My trouble is that I want it dark enough to look different from the white ceiling and woodwork, but light enough to be 'light'
My terracotta living room and sage green dining room never gave me this much grief!

OP posts:
Noroof · 27/08/2019 22:18

Right...sloping ceiling with veluxes. Do you
..
A count the slopes as being ceiling and paint it white and do around the velux white
Or
B count the slope as wall and paint it the same as the straight walls and gables.

We are at an impasse

C Paint walls and ceiling the same colour.
In your picture, I can't see a clear line between the 2 on right hand section

OP posts:
Noroof · 27/08/2019 23:01

I think the colour is too bold for everywhere though
