Decision time... Advice needed.
Kitchen Fitting in progress
We are having island with knee hole recess for a couple of bar stools.
I had envisaged having electric sockets tucked away on inner side of recess for occasional food mixer use, and maybe using laptop.
Fitters say this position won't won't work as socket box will protrude into the cupboards on either side of recess.
They suggest putting them on back wall of recess as they can then use void of cupboards on other side.
Will this be too inaccessible?
They say they put them there a lot.

Sorry, didn't make it clear, the island units on the knee hole /socket side are only wall unit depth so about 35cm

WorrisomeHeart · 28/10/2019 17:03

I would say go for the back wall - we have a socket in the side of our island and the box does protrude into the open shelving which bookends the knee hole. I’ll take some pics once I’m home. Having said that, the sockets have been very useful so far!

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 28/10/2019 17:38

@WorrisomeHeart some photos would be great as I can't quite envisage what you mean

All base units in place, and 1000mm larder assembled. (thank goodness it didn't come pre-assembled as it wouldn't have fitted through the door.
No photos as it looks horribly brown at the moment - inside of carcases are oak effect.

Good progress @WhereDoesThisToiletGo - look forward to the larder porn!

WorrisomeHeart · 29/10/2019 11:45

@WhereDoesThisToiletGo when I took the photos I realised that the box was much less obtrusive than I thought 😂. Pics attached anyway if they are any help.

Thanks for those @WorrisomeHeart.
I think I'll go with having them on back wall of knee recess

Ooh the kitchen looks lovely @WorrisomeHeart

We've got quite a way to go before we are at that stage Shock

Well we've ground to a halt here as the delivery from kitchen suppliers (which came last week) is missing loads of stuff. They also supplied the dreaded 30cm "can't fit a dinner plate in" wall units despite the plan having 32cm written in RED on it. Sadly we didnt notice until after fitter had put them up. But supplier is sending the right ones.
Only half the appliances are here and crucially we are missing the wine rack which sits between wall and big larder, so they can't fit that.

I'm glad I used the supplier's fitters as they are sorting it out.
The fitters are wonderful, they're doing a beautiful job and have reassured me that I will get the kitchen I wanted... Eventually.

This delay won't really affect the final end point as we have a hiatus next week anyway while we wait for quartz to arrive. Thankfully they've done enough that the templating can still be done tomorrow as planned.
It's more frustrating for the fitters, they are doing this for a fixed price based on a certain number of days and it's now going to take longer. They have told me that they will charge the extra days to the supplier and not to me.

Oh that is frustrating!

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 31/10/2019 16:03

Three deliveries shortly after my post so the fitters have returned...

Good! Fingers crossed that it is still a productive day.

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 01/11/2019 09:48

Well, kitchen installation is progressing, albeit slowly.
I think I might just have the best kitchen fitters in the world.
Deeper "yes you can fit a dinner plate in" wall units are now in place.

Annoyingly they have sent the tall open shelving units with all the shelves already fixed and not adjustable. None of my cookery books fit!

Electrician doing sockets and lights so no longer have to walk thru a dark room to find the single light switch dangling from the ceiling.

Heavy rain overnight and so far no damp patches have appeared...

Builders making good progress and are on track. They've got to move the new manhole though as it's in the wrong place.

Finalised kitchen plans yesterday. Floor chosen. DH is taking down the hall ceiling today. It's gonna get dirty.

Went to a friends house last night and had dinner in her spectacular new extension. It looks great but took 6 months to finish Shock

What's everyone else up to this weekend?

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 02/11/2019 11:57

I'm moving shelves round in my not quite finished kitchen. Since the larder is empty I guess it's soft core larder porn.
The gap between base and wall units will be dark blue alusplash

@WhereDoesThisToiletGo looks amazing! Where are your units from? Would love to see a pic from kitchen to garden as that is what you had extended?

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 02/11/2019 12:58

From kitchen into World's Smallest Extension (where yellow steps are) with annoying random utility door blocking the light

Fab! My kitchen is also blue and white. Can't wait to show pictures

soakedat3 · 02/11/2019 16:06

@WhereDoesThisToiletGo it's all looking fab! Larder is def soft core kitchen porn. I really like those spice racks on the doors. What appliances are the plugs inside it for?

WorrisomeHeart · 02/11/2019 16:17

Oh that looks FAB @WhereDoesThisToiletGo!!! LOVE the pantry and can’t wait to see it all filled. How much longer do you think?

WorrisomeHeart · 02/11/2019 16:18

Relatively momentous day here yesterday as I spent 3 hours putting together the new sofa for the extension (damn you IKEA). It really helps to feel like we’re on the home straight (I am ignoring all the painting that needs doing etc....)

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 02/11/2019 17:06

@WorrisomeHeart But at least you had something to collapse on afterwards! Looks so comfy

Not sure how much longer... The fridge and freezer we ordered were out of stock but no-one told kitchen supplier. As yet no delivery date. My open shelving to go beside larder was wrong and needs to be remade.
There were a few crucial things missing, like the things to join top and bottom halves of larder door. And the gorgeous wood thingy needs to be moved further down as I can reach the top shelves!
And half of the stuff the electrician needed was delivered to the wrong address so he didn't get finished either .

Worktops will take at least a week if not 2 so nothing really usable before then

OP posts:
WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 02/11/2019 17:09

The plan is to put filter coffee machine and toaster in there, but I suspect they will creep on to the worktop when I'm not looking.
Food processor and blender to encourage me to use them more, they have been buried in deep cupboard up until now and too much bother to get out
