I love the way CAD rendering always shows an immaculate luxuriant garden thru the windows.

@PenguindreamsofDraco do you think your builders are taking the piss a bit? I mean they would have known that insulation is required for building regs and which infiltration they would use?

chopc · 24/10/2019 17:05

@PenguindreamsofDraco and I think your questions are correct and he should be able to answer without putting his tools down

PenguindreamsofDraco · 24/10/2019 17:07

Probably a bit, yes - but as ever you end up over a barrel. I have no back or side wall to my house at the moment so I am kind of tied as to how far I can push him. Later on I can be a lot more bullish (maybe...).

WorrisomeHeart · 25/10/2019 06:15

Sigh, our new roof is leaking. Which has meant lots of exploratory work by the builders and roofer and now we have the renderer coming over the weekend to hack off and replace the blown render of the middle story of the house in case it’s getting in there. Just when I thought we were done with the builders.

MyNameIsJane · 25/10/2019 07:29

Oh no Worrisomeheart! We are getting a replacement dishwasher today. (Yes, for the one we complained about in August. Although I have waited for 3 weeks until we got paid again to pay a little more for a different model.)

Noroof · 25/10/2019 08:25

We are finished...bar the vanity unit which we are still waiting on being delivered! The builders stuck to their word with the price quoted being the price paid. No hidden extras!

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 25/10/2019 08:51

@noroof Excellent!

I'm very frustrated as I want to buy the boring finishing touches like curtain poles and toilet seats, and both of the ones I want seem permanently out of stock

I've been peering into the kitchen units stacked in the extension- I can see the Le Mans corner swing out thing, and lovely drawers and and and sits down and fans myself

@worrisomeheart, oh no! Did they find it? I hate roof leaks. I think they mentally scar as I'm still looking at the areas that used to leak every time it rains. Fingers crossed for you.

When is your kitchen getting fitted wheredoes?

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 25/10/2019 18:37

Fitter starts on Monday.

I think we've got a leak too.
Bits of paint have taken longer than the rest of the wall to dry because of the underlying plaster being so fresh /too fresh!
But there's a bit at bottom of pillar that definitely feels damp.
Bugger.
I hope it's the roof and not the central heating pipes....

@Noroof was it you who was having a very similar loft to me? Two rooms and bathroom? If so could I see the pics? Ours still isn't finished - was supposed to finish several weeks ago

WorrisomeHeart · 26/10/2019 10:00

They’ve not found it yet but at least we’ve not painted yet. The head builder keeps bringing different roofers over to try and figure it out 😂

Noroof · 26/10/2019 11:08

Yeah I'll take some of upstairs. We've not finished decorating yet though

Noroof · 26/10/2019 11:11

Here's upstairs

@Noroof that's lovely. I wish the way our space worked I could have had a bigger space for my shower room - to allow more head height. Don't think I have a pic handy and won't be back home til next week. Basically my shower is squashed into the slope

Noroof · 26/10/2019 13:01

Yeah its bigger than we thought. The whole upstairs is 60cm wider than the architect said so quite good

northernruth · 26/10/2019 21:13

@PenguindreamsofDraco I'm with you on the money point, he should absolutely have included that in his quote if it's needed to pass building control!

I am also hating it now. I am having glazed internal doors which I've sourced and my joiners are building a frame for them. I think I should have asked the builders joiners to do this as it's been a bit disjointed. Anyways the builder knocked the wall out, told the joiners he was going to "dot and dab" the walls either side of the opening but that would mean that the new walls stand proud of the original coving on either side of the opening. So i rang the builder and said no, I want it rough plastering then skimming and he basically said Oh I'll wait till you're back and bring Steve (plasterer) over. So another two days delay as I'm away till Wednesday. Any excuse not to bloody turn up.

lightlypoached · 27/10/2019 08:16

Have been looking at lighting. Have a nasty feeling that the skylight in the sloping bit of our roof will be right over the dining table - where the pendant needs to go. Has anyone come across any clever ideas to hang a light from a fixed skylight or am I wishing for the impossible ?

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 27/10/2019 10:33

@lightlypoached I saw one of those home reno programs where they had suspended this sculptural piece of driftwood across a void then they had drop lights wound round it and hanging down. I'm afraid it's not on iplayer any more

I'm also at the "totally fed up" stage.
I was fine before we went away for a few days, and despite more progress in those 5 days than the previous 3 weeks, I've now had it up to here.
Pissed off that no one turned up on Friday despite expecting an electrician, and builder leaving the "must be done before monday' job unfinished on Thursday.
Words were exchanged...

I only hope kitchen fitter is good.

@lightlypoached we have a space between two veluxes where a pendant could have gone but it would have looked a bit busy so i have opted for wall lights in our small extension (we have two extensions - a bloody enormous double height one and a small box on the back of the new kitchen)
