The knock through was done before we bought the house, so yes any ground floor works will be done once the scaffold for the loft has been removed.

WorrisomeHeart · 05/06/2019 22:14

Am thinking of getting some of these for the bedroom doors when they knock the wall down to make way for the stairs. Has anyone else used them or have any other tips to keep the dust out?

Hi everyone, I'm a 2 year lurker on the extension forums! Finally we have everything in place & our builders arrive at the beginning of July to start our double storey side & single storey rear extension. It's due to take 5 months so really hoping to be in by Christmas, during which we will be living with my father, plus baby plus dog! 😱

avocuddl · 06/06/2019 15:29

Welcome Dogz! That's so exciting!!

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 06/06/2019 17:33

Welcome Dogz!
I'm fairly new here too, joined thread at the planning stage, hopefully starting next month
This thread has been invaluable, I suggest having a good read back over earlier pages (I even read back thr previous thread), I've learned so much

soakedat3 · 06/06/2019 19:30

Hi Dogz! Isn't it strange how fast the builders say they can do things??

We have our building warrant... kind of! Architect had called las week and they said it was "imminent". No sign of it today so got architect to call again and it turns out they signed it off last week (hence the imminent) but it's stuck in the admin team to get the paperwork done. In the meantime the architect has our warrant number. So relieved!!

In the meantime this is what our garden looks like today. Looks like builders are all set to just build now. New Dad still thinks the roof will be up by the end of next week :o Our extension is big to us but reading other posts and seeing the amount of materials delivered I am starting to understand that it's really not that big!

I don't know how others are doing appliances but because I wanted specific ones I have ended up ordering them myself. According to the kitchen designer and New Dad, they can't compete with the likes of AO and Currys for brands like Smeg and Samsung etc. I have discovered that Currys will let you choose a delivery date about a month in the future with most items for a £5 fee. Appliances coming on the 14th July. New Dad didn't seem fazed but I suspect that's because I'm the one who has to squeeze past boxes... :D

Omg soaked I'm literally so excited for you!! Amazing progress already! Cmon New Dad!! We had some work done in the garden today in preparation and now I just want to start!! I know it's really not but September seems like ages away!

Good tip on the appliances! Thanks :)

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 06/06/2019 22:11

@soakedat3 is that poured concrete in your foundations or flooding?

WorrisomeHeart · 07/06/2019 12:57

Grrr torrential rain has stopped the Scaffolders from being able to work today - I am hoping this isn’t an omen for the rest of the build 😜

soakedat3 · 07/06/2019 16:59

@WhereDoesThisToiletGo, it's flooding. There is concrete there under the water. Sigh. Scottish summer time joy!

We are a bit behind already because of the rain but am trying not worry think about it as New Dad says he won't take the next lump until they are caught up a they are split into stages matching the build.

In the meantime I have my kitchen visuals. I will not be having yellow bar stools!!

Utility is not the same door as chose a slightly cheaper option for it. But they have drawn in a bench for me and New Dad is going to make sure the laundry drying thing I am having on the wall goes onto studs so the weight is supported. :D

Anyone doing kitchen shelves? Any suggestions?

@soakedat3 any reason why you haven't continued units along left wall?

WorrisomeHeart · 07/06/2019 18:02

Oh nice pics soaked! We are going for this in the utility cupboard - I’m hoping it will be fairly sturdy but it’s an exterior brick wall so should be fine right?

soakedat3 · 07/06/2019 19:24

@WhereDoesThisToiletGo, I didn't like how it looked and thought it looked a bit closed in. I may regret it! I was thinking as a local kitchen supplier if I don't like it I could ask for them later. The lead time for the white units is a lot less than the wooden bottom ones. Please note other than my jars of dried pasta I have no idea what I will put on them!

@WorriomeHeart, I was going to use the algot system in the utility for drying racks but because we're keeping a section of wall (to save on a steel) I don't have enough space as wanted two sections like the picture. It says I would need 120cm and I only have 100cm. I am going to try these instead for my drying area. I have messy kids!

WorrisomeHeart · 07/06/2019 19:46

Oh that’s a nice one too!

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 07/06/2019 21:58

@soakedat3 I like that little section of open shelving.
I wouldn't want the majority of my high level storage on open shelves, but I think a small section like that softens a design nicely.

I'm planning some open shelving at the end of a run, they will end up being used for a couple of stupidly large bowls

avocuddl · 08/06/2019 08:35

It looks great Soaked. Love the open shelving. Considering having this next to our hob now I've seen yours.

We've just been to Italy and stayed in 3 Airbnb's. All of them had a cupboard above the sink with w drying rack in, it was SO handy! I'd be so tempted! Who was it who was having a cupboard above the sink?

WorrisomeHeart · 08/06/2019 09:29

Ooooh what a good idea!!! We are and I’ve just found this:

chopc · 08/06/2019 09:41

Yep was just looking into this yesterday as well

avocuddl · 08/06/2019 09:47

Yes that's exactly it! And the bottom section is removable to clean!

soakedat3 · 08/06/2019 11:35

I wonder if I could put it in one of my cupboards... such an eye sore leaving dishes out to dry as I am too lazy to dry them myself! and a lot of things like photo mugs can't go into the dishwasher. Hmmm... something to ponder. Might be too deep for my cupboards though. Says 60 x 35 and think mine are 60 x 330.

We have 3 guy and foundation blocks going down today. I am hiding away from the kitchen as feels odd to look out at men walking past the window! :D

Hoppahouse · 08/06/2019 13:58

That drainer looks good!
We didn't get grooves in the quartz, so for the occasional washing up, we use this silicone mat that lives in the cupboard.
The utility units also look great! We ended up reusing our old kitchen drawers and cupboards in the utility with a new worktop and sink. Has anyone got this Ikea wall dryer?

Yes Soaked would be handy in that white cupboard at the end right next to your sink.

Agreed, we had some men in the garden the other day and i felt so awkward all day as I was working from home. I don't know how I'm going to cope with months of it! I'm too nosy I wanted to see what they were up to all day! But avoiding them, so secretly spying from the upstairs window! I'm going to have to stop wfh aren't it?!

WorrisomeHeart · 08/06/2019 14:43

Oh I do like that draining mat!! What a good idea, where is it from?

Kitchen deposit paid! After all the stress of DIYK apparently going down the pan, I am so pleased we've gone with Wickes. The designer has been so helpful and responsive - even when I’ve changed the plan about a thousand times. This is the worktop and splashback combination. The cabinets will be a very pale grey.
