Same here - then my friend came over and it was really evident we could all feel the dust in our noses / throats 🙈. Big clean after that!
I was expecting the dust to continue to be bad post-build, but it's been ok really 😅

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 04/06/2019 08:39

I might buy one of those screwfix vacuums.
I know most builders bring their own vac, and I'll be hiding my Sebo but there'll be clearing up to do that isn't the builder's job so I don't want to trash my good vac.

soakedat3 · 04/06/2019 10:14

Yes I might also get a screwfix vac. The wet bit will be handy in Scotland :D :D I hope there will be enough to go around all the mumsnetters!!

I didn't get a separate price for each fix as builder rolled it all up.

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 04/06/2019 10:43

I used to have one of the original Vax but it died.
A wet vac would be useful for major spills and leaks

Ah, but I haven't allowed a storage place for it in new kitchen....

soakedat3 · 04/06/2019 11:37

If it lasts the build clean ups then it deserves it's own space!

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 04/06/2019 11:47

My previous vacuum survived a house rewire, 2 new kitchens, a conservatory build and 2 new carpets (not all in the same house!)
I really thought it was immortal...

WorrisomeHeart · 04/06/2019 17:00

Apocalyptic floor quote has arrived, making me glad we’re taking the interest free payment option for the kitchen. It’s one of the items that we really want (or rather that I really want) and I know I will be disappointed if we go for a cheaper option now. Also the flooring guy has worked with our builder a lot, and his quote is similar to the online ones (that I was hoping were wrong 😂😂😂). Sigh. Maybe I can sell one of the kids..

Hoppahouse · 04/06/2019 17:08

Sounds great - Sometimes you just have to go for it! Is it the Amtico? We felt the same about our quartz - so glad we went for the one we wanted rather than a cheaper option. You won't regret it!
Talking of floors - I have the guys here sorting out the areas I wasn't happy with. All very awkward, but will be much happier once it's done 🙈😬

WorrisomeHeart · 04/06/2019 17:11

It is the Amtico. I also feel like this is such a big part of the kitchen - the backdrop to everything else, that it needs to be right. However that could just be me justifying the cost! 😂. We’re already anticipating spending £1500 more on the sliding doors than planned but for a similar reason - they are a major feature. I just need to stop looking at the budget planner.

soakedat3 · 04/06/2019 17:37

In a property programme I'm sure I heard someone say not to scrimp on things you touch everyday... and you will be walking on it everyday!

Our foundations are now dug. The building warrant has not appeared yet but speaking to both builder and architect confirm that this happens and the builder just takes videos and pictures to show how deep they dug etc. A strange man came and talked to the builder, did some things on a tablet and then left. I think it was the structural engineer. No one was crying after so all going well I think!

ShakespearesSisters · 04/06/2019 17:52

Whoop whoop, I got some windows in today. I'm loving the full length window. It used to be such a gloomy kitchen. Not any more Smile.
Plasterers are coming Thursday and Friday and the floor should be getting tiled next week and kitchen units in by the end of next week ready for the worktop templating guys to come in the 17th.

@ShakespearesSister Your new kitchen is going under that new left hand window, yes? And will the table be at the new central picture window or is that seating?
It's starting to look like a house again rather than a building site!

ShakespearesSisters · 04/06/2019 18:30

So the kitchen will be under the new left hand window. You will see a slight bit of unit that will be clad to match the other side and the overhang for the breakfast bar on the peninsula sticking out on the left of the big window.
A dining table is staying in the original dining area (the corner of the L) and there will be some seating in the new extension bit.
The doors that you can see through the gap in the first window have been removed and the hole has been widened (the doors are currently filling the gap where bifolds will go on the side of the extension)
Some internal photos before the new windows went in.

Ooh it looks brilliant!!

MyNameIsJane · 04/06/2019 22:11

Looking good!

A before and after picture of one of my rooms upstairs.

soakedat3 · 04/06/2019 22:20

Oooh! I like seeing these nearly done photos.

I also like your outdoor paving @Shakespearssisters!

ShakespearesSisters · 05/06/2019 06:45

That room looks very different @MyNameIsJane, how many rooms are you working on?

@soakedat3 thanks about the paving. On the upper patio it needs extending. When we had the old ramshackle conservatory the paving stopped where you can see on the picture and we had a useless wedge shaped gap between the sleeper retaining wall and the conservatory. We have had the outside wall of the extension properly tanked so the patio will butt right up against the wall (you can just see rubble filling the gap on the picture). The window is going in that gap today so the lead flashing that covers the wall patio join will go in too which hopefully means the patio can be finished. That is an older photo as for the last 2 weeks, my kitchen units (which I'm reusing) are sat on pallets under tarpaulin.

WorrisomeHeart · 05/06/2019 08:25

Just had confirmation that the scaffold will go up on Friday for the loft to start on Monday. I am now hyperventilating. It’s all as planned but it’s so much easier dealing with a hypothetical build and once the trigger has been pulled, there’s no going back!!! 😂😂

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 05/06/2019 09:36

@WorrisomeHeart
And you're off!
Are you doing loft and kitchen together or one after each other?
Is there a kitchen extension too?

avocuddl · 05/06/2019 11:01

Wow everything seems to be moving so quickly!! I'm so excited for everyone!! We've got another kitchen designer coming next week from Howdens as builder prefers these. Will be interested to see what they suggest with the layout. Our current kitchen is Howdens so know they're okay at least!

Whyisitsodifficult · 05/06/2019 13:43

Has anyone got or getting a 1909 kitchen? I love the look of them but not seen them in real life yet.
Also under floor heating I’m so undecided on whether I want it. Anyone love or loathe theirs?

Thatsnotmybaby · 05/06/2019 16:14

.

WorrisomeHeart · 05/06/2019 17:42

Loft first and then kitchen extension starts mid July - we already have the kitchen diner knocked through but we’re adding 4ms on the back and shifting the space around to include a utility cupboard and a seating area.

soakedat3 · 05/06/2019 19:55

Woohoo Worrisome! Good luck!

chopc · 05/06/2019 21:52

Interesting @WorrisomeHeart . Our builder said it's better to do the loft conversion before the ground floor work due to the dust?
