Looks fantastic 👍 I do love white worktops!

I think the drainer mat was from Dunelm.

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 08/06/2019 15:48

What's the splashback? Glass?
It's a gorgeous colour. I'm sad to be removing my lovely irregular tiles that are a similar shade

soakedat3 · 08/06/2019 16:18

@WorrisomeHeart, I love that splashback colour. I was thinking of a similar one for us too but as we've gone for wood units thought that would be colour too. The white and green colours will look great with grey units.

So this is the progress today. We are pondering the symmetry of the bay window still but it's so hard to tell without walls!! Quite glad to have kitchen back and pleased they didn't stay too long as means neighbours get a break from noise. Although not as bad as I feared. WFH during that bit would be ok I think Avo. I also peered out of top window a lot :D

The lack of wall units on the range side has brought up a problem :( Need to get the ducting out to external wall somehow for the extractor fan. I've tried non ducted ones before and know I prefer ducted. New Dad has suggested something called a downstand raft. I may have gotten that wrong but it looks like a little box ledge from the ceiling that hides the ducting as I don't have cupboards to hide it. Must go find some pictures to see. He showed me one on his phone and they had put lights under it. It looks good but need to see more examples! Has anyone come across this before?

It’s actually aluminium!! About 1/4 of the price of glass, although much more limited in colour choice.

I really like this one because it’s close to the F&B Oval Room Blue that we had planned to have our DIYK bespoke painted kitchen in! 😂

I'm really pleased the kitchen designing went well at wickes Worrisome!! Love that combo.

Could you swap your shelves to the other side where you currently have cupboards Soaked?

soakedat3 · 08/06/2019 20:17

The AluSplash looks really good Worrisome!

I'm not sure Avo. Lots to think about so Ill sleep on it a bit. New Dad has sent me photos of the one he has done before. It looks ok I think. Need to sleep on it!

I have fallen slightly in lust with some shelf brackets from Dowsing & Reynolds. They have some really lovely things!

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 08/06/2019 21:30

Our designer "put" a glass splashback in the CAD rendering (and in the quote) and it looked stunning but we're looking at over a grand before the extra charge for each socket cut out!
I'd love it in deep blue to go with the contrast island (all other units white) but I'm not brave enough to commit until I see the finished kitchen.
The other option is to just have simple glass splashback behind hob, in a RAL colour, and paint the walls in the same mixed to order RAL shade.
But I'll look into those Aluminium ones!

WorrisomeHeart · 08/06/2019 22:07

We were planning a glass one which I think would have been somewhere between £1500-2000. The aluminium one is about £440. And you can’t tell the difference!!

avocuddl · 09/06/2019 06:47

I'm SO undecided about a splash back. Really don't know what to do. I'll probably end up up going for tiles but no idea what. Have not been inspired by anything. Any ideas welcome!

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 09/06/2019 06:52

I think a visit to Wickes is in order to have a look at these aluminium ones! The website has a nice dark blue one.

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 09/06/2019 07:08

Do you think very high gloss aluminium splashback would look OK with matt units? All the photos I can find are with high gloss unit doors

WorrisomeHeart · 09/06/2019 07:10

wheredoes, that’s what we’re having and it looks fine - the showroom version of our kitchen has the petrol splashback which looked great (although a little too dark given the kitchen will be on the wall farthest from the windows)

WorrisomeHeart · 09/06/2019 07:11

avo we have a tiled splashback at the moment and I HATE cleaning it. The grout gets filthy.

WorrisomeHeart · 09/06/2019 07:13

wheredoes excuse the crappy photo from the brochure - this is the kitchen we are getting with the splashback (although not our colour). I like the contrast although I don’t think we’ll have under-cupboard lights

I looked at that and thought WOW they've got a curved wall then realised it's the brochure fold!

Catquest1 · 09/06/2019 07:36

We have had a plumber on site all week!!! He hasnt finished but finally it feels like we are moving towards finishing and we are significantly further forward than we were this time last week. Bedroom carpet is being fitted tomorrow so if dh and i can put a bit of effort in during the evenings this week we might be in our new bedroom at the weekend!!

We have now started to get quotes in for a new drive - perhaps we were naive when we started all this but whilst we knew we would need a new drive laying we hadnt realised it would need doing quite so soon after building. We have quite big chunks missing from the orginal drive where the meters were moved and it just looks terrible and so mich dirt keeps get trapised into the house. Plus round the side isnt secure (needs a garden gate) and it obviously needs to be so its just something we need to suck up and do. Can be done next month though so not too long to wait.

I did smile reading the posts about vacuums - the plaster dust nearly killed my hoover so we did buy an industrial Henry to help! I managed to live with a certain level of dust but after a while i just got sick of it!

TheFatberg · 09/06/2019 07:41

I hadn't thought about a splashback at all yet, so thank you WorrisomeHeart for sharing yours.

WorrisomeHeart · 09/06/2019 08:03

No worries! What is everyone doing for handles? I keep going back and forth with cup handles or not - for the shaker we’d originally planned they were great but I’m not sure they work on the more modern slab front.

chopc · 09/06/2019 10:18

About splashbacks - I had mirror in my last house (mainly because I wanted to watch the kids whilst my back was turned) but they were a lovely feature. Planning to have the same again even though the kids are grown now

WorrisomeHeart · 09/06/2019 14:06

Oh mirror is a nice idea as well.

All excitement here as the scaffolding is finally going up! It’s a little stressful this weekend as my grandfather is very ill and I’m basically waiting for the call to jump on a plane back home (NZ) for the funeral. All the while, I’m very conscious of the build starting tomorrow and trying to make sure we’re all ready for it. 😱

Hoppahouse · 09/06/2019 14:28

Sorry to hear that Worri - that does sound stressful. I hope the work starting goes smoothly for you.

We haven't got a splashback yet and not sure what we're going to do there yet. The Island has dark blue/black doors & drawers, but everywhere else is white. I'm quite drawn to the blue tiles, especially the hexagonal ones which wouldn't necessarily need to fill the whole area. We only have the sink on the side as the hob is on the island.

chopc · 09/06/2019 17:17

@Hoppahouse what kind of extractor do you have in the island? Does it extract to the outside?

Hoppahouse · 09/06/2019 18:36

We actually have an extractor in the wall that extracts outside, so nothing above the hob. It passed building regs too 😬😆

chopc · 09/06/2019 19:02

@Hoppahouse does it effectively get rid of the cooking odours?

We will have an open plan kitchen diner with a little bit of living space and by biggest fear is the room having permanent cooking smells

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 09/06/2019 19:25

@Hoppahouse we have the same colour scheme planned, white units on three sides, dark blue central island, off white worktops.
Kitchen is currently v dark so I'm hoping this scheme will brighten it.
Love the idea of a matching dark blue splashback but won't commit until its all fitted in case it drains all the precious light.
