What would £120,000 buy where you live?

We're planning to buy an investment property this summer and have £120,000 to spend. We've been looking in the area where family live but it's commuter belt and houses are snapped up. Can you inspire me with what this would buy in your area? We live abroad so no ties in terms of area.

Bugger all.

I would be focusing on what return I could get on my investment, property is not always something that generates a good return. Buy to let's can have very minimal return especially at bottom end of market.

My house with some money left over :-)

Decent sized 3 bed semi with garden and driveway

80sMum · 21/06/2015 18:07

You would get a one-bedroom retirement flat for £120k where I live.

LoloKazolo · 21/06/2015 18:29

Best kept secret in West Yorkshire Grin-- 25 minutes from Manchester Victoria and 120k would get you a four bed two baths, walking distance from train station, rental yield approx £700pcm.

girlylala · 21/06/2015 18:31

Yes. 110000 gets you a 3 bed front and back garden in a cul de sac. I'm just outside edinburgh.

3 bed semi in Co. Antrim. 2 bed terrace/apt in Belfast, maybe?

Applesauce29 · 21/06/2015 19:38

Parking space

SconeForAStroll · 21/06/2015 19:48

A flat in the centre of Stratford upon Avon here with a tenant already in place paying £595 pcm.

WixingMords · 21/06/2015 19:52

A very nice car?

No property at all. Sadly.

Icedfinger · 21/06/2015 19:54

1 bed ex council flat in my town. Nothing else for less than 130,000

Indantherene · 21/06/2015 19:59

a one or 2 bed ex LA flat.

trockodile · 21/06/2015 20:00

North East Scotland, this ones a fixed price of 120k. Fair few 2/3 bedrooms for around that price or lower.

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 21/06/2015 20:07

Nothing in my town, maybe a studio flat in a nearby town.

zen1 · 21/06/2015 20:08

A one bedroom retirement flat offered on a shared ownership basis.

this is £125,000 but there are loads in Medway, and they rent out really easily, especially if you buy close to the high speed stations.

Looking on Rightmove for my postcode, 120k would get you a 1 bed flat on a slightly scuzzy road.

sleepyhead · 21/06/2015 20:15

Nothing. I'm really shocked at how much prices have gone up (and glad we moved a couple of years ago - not sure we could have afforded to now).

HippyPottyMouth · 21/06/2015 20:18

My 3-bed end terrace is sold STC for £124,000. Ok area, good secondary school at top of road, 10 minutes' walk from centre of small East Midlands town, house thoroughly refurbished 5 years ago and repainted and carpeted just now.

Buglife · 21/06/2015 20:19

1 or 2 bed flat or maisonette in a hoising development type area on the outskirts of town. But would rent for a fair amount as in the SE and 1 hour commute to London so £600+pm probably.

mummytime · 21/06/2015 20:37

1 bedroom retirement flat.

RockTheBells · 21/06/2015 20:39

Nothing. Cheapest property on at the moment in my postcode is a studio flat for £210k. One beds start at £250k.

SanityClause · 21/06/2015 20:40

Nothing.

FiveExclamations · 21/06/2015 20:50

In South Norfolk it varies, I've found a 1 bedroom house, or 2 bedroom flat, or up a 2 bed terrace depending on location, but all within 10 miles of Diss.
