Which of these two houses would you choose?

1st is a victorian terraced with a sea view but in a less "posh" area:

Second is modern detached in a naice area walking distance from the sea:

DH and I each have a preference so I turn to you to break the tie.

I think it depends if you have budget to do work to them? If you want to add value and have a house to your own taste I would say 2 but for a finished, maximum budget then 1.

I think the first one - that sea view is lovely, and there's a quirkiness to it which I like. It seems to have a bit more character - plus an extra bedroom and less money, but I know nothing about the areas. Obviously you'd have to buy a wallpaper stripper.

Definitely the first house by miles it is much much nicer. Also Crosby is a very good area.

I prefer the Crosby one - I know both areas a bit and prefer Crosby too, Formby is a bit Hyacinth Bucket.

Thanks, all 1 is my preference, too. Agreed about the wallpaper stripper, though, Hassled, or at least some dark glasses! The Formby one is dull but being detached would probably bee quieter. Anyone have a clue how well soundproofed those types of Victorian terraced houses are?

lala exactly! People in Formby have some serious attitude problems sometimes. Not all of them, of course, but enough that its noticeable about the village!

The one by the sea - you would never get tired of being able to walk out your back garden onto those dunes. It is also better finished, an extra bedroom....I'd be going for that one.

Do both have off road parking? That is my main regret about the house we live in - pisses me off nearly every day.

If they do I'd go for house 1. It has more room. More character and just looks a nicer "home". Victorian terraces have fairly thick walls. What is access to the back like? Where would you keep your bins? Can you tell I only looked at the pics and didn't bother reading any descriptions??? :)

Oooh - I've read now and you have parking at both. House 1 has west facing garden so sunny in an afternoon but house 2 is south facing so sunny all day.

I'd go for the second one. Having lived right on the coast, its wonderful when its sunny, but the corrosion isn't so great, nor is the sand constantly blowing into your garden etc etc.

I really like number 1. I would visit in the evening and see what noise you can hear.

Number 1 is much more quirky and nicely decorated. But I don't know f I could cope with being sandwiched between two houses, I have lived in a mid terrace once before and it was a nightmare.

Also it looks quite thin!? The other one is less interesting but more kind of solid and despite the foul decor, it has better potential safe wise.

I see your dilemma!
Actually the second one would need loa of modernising which is depressing it you don't have the money to do it ASAP.
Number 1!!

1st one is stunning, has something special about it. The other one is a good area but house a bit boring compared. And sea view is amazing. Also nearer to city? Go for 1!

Tough - No1 great position but No2 is detached - a must have for me so I guess I'd have to keep looking sorry not helpful

Without knowing the area, No. 1 house has the charm about it and the kitchen is amazing - No. 1 with both hands unless there is significant difference in schools.

No.1 has no windows I the lounge!
The stunning kitchen looks small but has no dimensions
Where are people getting their positives from?
The kitchen is at the front.
No possibility to extend.
Worse school catchments. None of these may matter to you, but "stunning"?

I'd go for number one but only if you have funds to refurb, which given fifteen grand disparity I'd guess you do.
