1st is a victorian terraced with a sea view but in a less "posh" area:

Second is modern detached in a naice area walking distance from the sea:

DH and I each have a preference so I turn to you to break the tie.

Formby and Crosby aren't Liverpool whiteandyellowiris . They're not a million miles away, and both are in merseyside but neither are Liverpool proper.

I don't really like either house but in terms of location I would definitely go for number 2.

SquidgyMummy · 23/07/2013 07:11

The view is amazing in no1, but it the novelty may well wear off.
you sound like you prefer no2 now

kitsmummy · 23/07/2013 08:52

I think everything about house number 1 is hideous and if it were me, I'd spend just as much putting house 1 right as I would house 2. House number 2is soooo much nicer (and I am someone who always prefers period houses, but not in this case!)

MrsBucketxx · 23/07/2013 09:09

number 2,

you can put yoir own stamp on it, and not stuck with some of the hideous paper in number 1.

and as it needs work you can negotiate more on price.

Rockdoctor · 23/07/2013 12:39

Another vote for number 2 here. Much more practical house and still within walking distance of an amazing beach and the train into Liverpool. I like Formby and don't consider it that posh to be honest.

AllBellyandBoobs - I had a quiet chuckle at your comment, having grown up not a million miles away (but not in Liverpool), and spent my teenage years trying to perfect a faux scouser accent. Do teenage girls still do that around there?

yerwan · 23/07/2013 13:31

I prefer the second. I dislike the garage at the front of the other house plus no room to extend and a small garden. The second house has lots of potential and a lovely garden.

Chivetalking · 23/07/2013 13:35

Number two.

Detached would always win over attached for me.

frogwatcher42 · 23/07/2013 14:26

I want to know which was your choice op and which was dh?
Or have you already said and I missed it?

MrsOakenshield · 23/07/2013 14:32

2nd. First looks dark and pokey (did someone say it had a fantastic kitchen? Really??).

Fuck me, houses are cheap there!

AllBellyandBoobs · 23/07/2013 14:39

Rockdoctor They certainly do. I think the accent, real and plassy, get more exaggerated every year :)

MackerelOfFact · 23/07/2013 15:52

Definitely number two. One is cosmetically better (on the inside, at least) but it looks gloomy and poky and has zero period charm. In fact, I thought I was looking at the 'modern' one when I first looked at it.

Number two is fairly generic and needs some sprucing up, but it's spacious, light and airy and, crucially, detached. You could make this lovely and really grow with it. I don't know either area, but if this one is nicer then I would absolutely go for it.

frogwatcher, originally I was for 1 and DH liked 2. Now I have come around to his point of view (a rare occurrence!) and prefer 2. I thin 1 is great at first glance but then thinking it through, head over heart, 2 is a lot more practical. I think with 1 I would get very sick of having sand get everywhere. The view is lovely but I'd be buying the house, not the view.

Sleepy - thanks. I guessed it would be that way round!! I would have preferred 1 at first thought (until I thought of the sea encroaching!).
