1st is a victorian terraced with a sea view but in a less "posh" area:

Second is modern detached in a naice area walking distance from the sea:

DH and I each have a preference so I turn to you to break the tie.

Sorry. It's probably not that helpful to suggest more houses when you're deciding between two!

underthemountain · 21/07/2013 23:15

We were considering formby due to the good schools(or Wirral/Chester), husband's job will be in Liverpool. Is it really too snobbish to consider do you think (not sure if we should consider living in Liverpool itself?)?

ihearsounds · 21/07/2013 23:16

Picture 17 in the 2nd link from Justgiveme, is that a kitchen, bathroom or dining room?

JustGiveMeFiveMinutes · 21/07/2013 23:19

I wondered what it was too. Bizarre! But it's a god house on a great street in a great area. Just get a couple of skips and through out the dodgy decor.

JustGiveMeFiveMinutes · 21/07/2013 23:21

Good house not god house!

givemeaboost · 21/07/2013 23:21

No1 without a doubt!

purplewithred · 21/07/2013 23:31
  1. 1 is cute but dark and squished. Two needs complete redecoration but has a much better layout and nicer garden. I don't know anything About the areas though.
Ikeameatballs · 21/07/2013 23:40

Number 2.

Detached
Better layout/kitchen size
Can extend
Can make it your own by updating and add value

lazydog · 22/07/2013 07:20

Neither strike me, but if it were a choice between the two, #2 as I've experienced "neighbours from Hell" and vowed to never live in an attached property again as long as I could afford a detached.

ditavonteesed · 22/07/2013 07:22

No 1 has the wow factor for me.

lazydog · 22/07/2013 07:31

Is this a bad area as it seems better value for money to me? www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-20426523.html

primallass · 22/07/2013 09:53

As much as I like living by the sea I really don't like house 1. It seems so squashed in. And going by Streetview I would go for house 2.

lydiajones · 22/07/2013 13:38

I don't know the areas and while I like the idea of walking to the sea I like the second house more. I think you could make the second one your own and the house is detached and the garden is bigger and a nicer shape. House 2 looks like it is in a smarter location on street view.

Twirlyhot · 22/07/2013 13:45

Second

whiteandyellowiris · 22/07/2013 13:47

oh they are both a bit ugly bugly
but id pick one because that sea view

it looks nothing like I imagine Liverpool to be like
is that beach sandy ?

frogwatcher42 · 22/07/2013 13:48

Definitely 2. With rising sea levels, and more surges predicted you may be under water at some point with 1 !!!!!!

JaquelineHyde · 22/07/2013 13:51

I would go for the 2nd one.

Number 1 isn't stunning by any stretch of the imagination, in fact it is down right tacky.

Number 1 may well have the extra bedroom but the bedrooms look tiny.

Number 2 is detached which makes a huge difference, in a nicer area, yes it is very dated in decoration but surely no one would actually leave number 1 decorated the way it is and you could split the master bedroom in to two good sized rooms if you really wanted the extra room.

Also in the long term with number 2 you will be able to increase the value of the house with ease.

Raeray · 22/07/2013 16:14

Number two! Light and bright and lovely.
Bit of a spruce and it would make it your own.
Also formby is lovely. A very good friend grew up there - went to range school. She's fab and so has formby been every time I have been there. I feel quite at home there considering I grew up in the West Country! Grin

Good luck - hope you're very happy in your new home.

HarderToKidnap · 22/07/2013 18:50

Location is everything. You can make a house what you want it but you can't change where it is, so go for whatever location works for you wrt schools, commute, parks, facilities, crime rates etc.

Jaynebxl · 22/07/2013 18:54

You can only make a house what you want if it has the potential. House 1 doesnt have any potential to do anything with.

RCheshire · 22/07/2013 19:39

Whiteandyellowiris, formby has a gorgeous very long sandy beach with dunes behind. Nice to be able to walk to avoid the traffic on hot day!

whiteandyellowiris · 22/07/2013 21:58

rc, that's interesting as I had no ide there were parts of Liverpool like that, I thought it was a bit like that sitcom bread!
crazy really to have such a sterotype in my head

SquinkiesRule · 23/07/2013 03:25

I like that first house that formicadinosaur linked, the bay windows and nice long drive for parking.

Monty27 · 23/07/2013 05:30

For quirkiness and the view I would have said 1 (although the double bedroom looks cramped).

For practical purposes I would say 2.

Monty27 · 23/07/2013 05:36

Just had another look. No 2 definitely
