What does £350k buy in your area?

That is our current budget. Love the area we are in and we tied down to it for now but sometimes I feel frustrated with the size of our house. Its small.

So just been nosy (and sort of daydreaming where we could move to when we are older and freer) what would £350k get you were you live?

We live in an odd area and you see houses up to around 280k but then not a lot until you hit the 500k mark. We were in the same situation price wise as you and ended up well below our budget with a project house.

3 beds. Maybe 4 but would probably need work. It's all terraces here though so not as much space as it would first seem.

Yes we found when we were looking in several areas in different counties the £350k houses seemed a lot rarer. We were lucky to find this! Most start £500k in this area. Even those aren't very big.

Wonder if we are in the same area? :)

What sort of areas are people roughly in? Any right-move links?

I ask as I suppose it would be nice to find an area like this but cheaper for the future!

You'd get something bloody big and lovely for that round here. Listed building, big garden, whatever you liked. I'm in Lincolnshire :) There was an article in the i a few months ago about our town being a commuter's paradise because the houses are cheap, the countryside's beautiful and we're a direct 1hr commute to to King's Cross.

A 3 bed ex-local authority flat or a 1 or possibly 2 bed conversion in a Victorian house.

4 bed detached with lots of garden or newbuild.
This is what right thing, but it's stupidly over-priced. I think the owners live in London & have no idea of local prices. Should be advertised for about £400k, and then only because it has lots of "character". It was over £600k only last summer, they are slowly figuring things out.

4 or 5 bed detached in New build areas, 3 bed in old Victorian bit of town or 2 four beds in the 60's estates.

Grr that's just the homepage.

Anyway, it's 4 beds, 3 living rooms, seperate gym in garden, nice patio area & 1/3 of an acre.

Well we bought our house in may. 4 bed, lounge, dining room, neat kitchen, en suite, downstairs loo. £167k in Glasgow.

I'm not sure but I'm in Grantham (birthplace of that Thatcher woman you may have heard of- no, there isn't a statue!) There are lots and lots of villages but I don't think many have their own train station.

Here there is a lot up to around the 270,000 mark. And then if you want a better house there is not much under around £550,000 or even more. So that's probably not helpful. And why we haven't moved.

I'm also in lincolnshire. £350k would get you loads. Our 3 bed detached 1950s house with big garden cost £150k. It's hard to get to London from most of the county though! We're in Lincoln itself & I'd fully recommend it as somewhere to live. Grantham is on the main London line & there are nice villages around there but I suspect they are more expensive than here.

Standard 3 bed semi price in this part of Bristol - other areas of the city are cheaper though and others more expensive....

That's funny, I don't think it is all that big, interior space is not that well laid out & small rooms. It's right in middle of town, next to the noisy 6th form college & has stress of town drunks & a busy one way system surround it. It's sweet but you'd have to be an urbanite to truly love it; urbanite is odd thing to be in a sleepy rural town in a sleepy rural county. I think my house has more interior space and we think it's only worth about £260k. But mine lacks character, has smaller garden, oil-fired heating.

This more like what's advertised for £350k.

This house has massive front garden but is personality less; sandwiched between busy roads & rail line. Lots of potential, I guess.

I live in a small enough community that I don't just know all the people, I get to know all the nice houses, too.

my house probably - Cambridge commuter village, detached, 10-15 years old, 4 bed (ensuite to main), 3 reception rooms, kitchen + conservatory/breakfast room, utility. Detached garage & reasonable sized garden. Note on the market, but could be if I see anything I would like to move to.
