Hello
I'm starting a new thread for those with children who are sitting for the 10+ Trinity and Whitgift exams this year.

Keen not be in this journey alone and hopefully share in the experience with others.

Hi there

Does anyone know for Whitgift how many boys they are interviewing this January for how many places?

This is for the 11 plus.

Waiting for our son's interview at W as well and wondering what the odds are like!

Hi @bumponboard , we have our Whitgift interview tomorrow, so will ask and if told, I’ll update you tomorrow evening. I was told by a teacher that some independents in the area have seen a slight drop in applications, so perhaps this increases the chances of DCs once they get to interview stage.

Mattie1 · 21/01/2025 04:16

I asked in the 10+ interview and was told 4:1 but it wasn’t clear if this was overall or from interview stage

Yes, we do!

I think he is a sports teacher. Did you DS apply for a sports scholarship? Mine did.

Audley28 · 21/01/2025 08:31

Yes, he did apply for a Sports Scholarship. I am at Whitgift today for the assessment and will report if I find out more. Are you going today too?

No tomorrow for cricket (last session). What is today?

Audley28 · 21/01/2025 12:53

Feedback from sports assessment today (still ongoing) - Today was swimming and football. Tomorrow it is hockey and cricket. I believe Thursday is rugby. We were told that 100 kids are doing the sports scholarship assessment. I did not get how many in total are doing the interview. They did mention that they give more offers than places available.

user2468love · 21/01/2025 14:43

Thanks for the information. I think we will have a normal interview but with the sports teacher, rather than an interview related to the sports scholarship. Good luck

We had our interview today and I asked this question. The teacher didn’t say how many boys were being interviewed, but did say that offers vary between 1:3 or 1:4 in some years. They will make more offers than places available however.

In our case, we were informed in our interview that our DS was being considered for an academic scholarship, which we are obviously delighted with.
Good luck to all waiting for interviews. The wait can be excruciating but from our experience today, every effort is made to keep the DS calm and relaxed. The parent chat is just that, a chat, you’ll all be fine.

Audley28 · 21/01/2025 16:04

@HopefulDad19 Well done! That looks really promising! Who was your interviewer? Thanks for the info.

bumponboard · 21/01/2025 16:21

@HopefulDad19 that's fantastic news, congratulations and thanks for the info.

Hi is this for trinity?

Hi @Wisemum19 this is for Whitgift. And thank you. We will still be keeping everything crossed until we get absolute confirmation with an offer.

Hi @chocolatemousse3 , you can park within the school itself. There was plenty of available spaces.

user2468love · 21/01/2025 22:44

@HopefulDad19 can you please also message me. Curiosity is killing me

Hi all, we have our interview next week. Had Trinity this week. Both are wonderful schools but trying to weigh up preferences. Totally hypothetical and of course we may not get an offer from both or either. Trinity may go co-ed is a consideration, even if it won't impact his year directly, we are concerned about the indirect impact of the disruption etc. Over the years Whitgift hasn't been as good on pastoral side and their exam results are not as strong overall and Trinity has been excellent on overall character building, well rounded and strong academically too. I was just reading about the new head for Whigift and he seems to be coming from a school which was very strong on pastoral care. I've only had raving reviews form students that are at Trinity but had mixed reviews from Whitgift ex students. With a new head coming in though this can make a big change for the better and at Trinity may be the other way around if they are going through the coed transition. Anyone has views on this or a crystal ball to see how it turns out? 🤣

Thanks for this, Whitgift was not our choice but DS was very interested in Trinity because of its reputation for sports , he passed Bexley 11 plus as well so most likely he will get Chis and Sid as well as we are in catchment. I did not like the area where Whitgift is and wasn't sure whether I can send there on his own all the way from Orpington. I personally don't mind Trinity going co-ed. However with the 20% VAT I will reconsider the grammer school if he doesn't get a scholarship for Trinity, but otherwise I think despite going co ed Trinity is a good choice , however this is my personal view

Audley28 · 23/01/2025 10:29

Good morning - Anyone else did interviews at Whitgift this week? How was it? Some academic questions depending on how the kid did in the papers and then questions about the children (passions etc?). Thanks!

Audley28 · 27/01/2025 15:06

Interviews done. Everyone at W was so nice. (the kids, the teachers, the parents, the interviewer...) Our son loved it. Now we all have to wait till the 14th of Feb. Hope everyone in this group gets an offer! 💪

modernmum23 · 28/01/2025 08:12

we had our interview and had a similar experience, everyone was lovely! DS fell in love with the school all over again. good luck to everyone!
