Wondered if hand holding for Sept newbies would be nice?

Just that really. Like an antenatal thread but for parents of children starting primary in Sept.

We have our taster afternoon in a couple of weeks - it all feels so alien. Haven't felt this out of it since I bought my 1st pack of nappies and got the giggles at the checkout!

can you get any grey pinafores and white polo neck shirts with collars?

i have everything e.g - checked summer dresses, grey pinafore dresses, jumpers, cardis and white polo shirts etc picking up tites and white socks and her coat later which i ordered

EldonAve · 10/08/2009 16:14

smeaky - ours wear summer uniform until half term.
Some staff will be in school over the summer so you could still telephone and ask

simpson · 10/08/2009 16:15

Tink - I am consoling myself with the fact that I know they are definately in the house iyswim

I think it would help if I looked without a small person hanging off my leg which DD (18mths) seem to be doing all the time.

golgi · 10/08/2009 16:28

smeaky - I hadn't even thought of that!
Boys seem to wear pretty much the same all year round though. I think we have a pair of shorts somewhere.

Aranea · 10/08/2009 17:12

No caravan here, golgi. Phew, that means there's only one of me, which is probably for the best.

Good luck simpson! In your place, I would probably buy replacement ones, sew them all in and then find the original ones. That sort of thing keeps happening to me. Most annoying.

smeaky · 11/08/2009 08:54

Thanks for the advice! It's just occurred to me that I need to have everything ready anyway, because the shops will sell out soon enough. I was hoping we'd be able to just get what we need now and get the rest later, what a newbie.

M&S on Saturday here we come!

Hi everyone.

Ironed my first school uniform at the weekend

OP posts:
golgi · 11/08/2009 16:35

Oh bugger. Ironing. I hate ironing. Do you think I can get away without ironing polo shirts?

I'm planning to dig out the various bags of stuff I've slung in his wardrobe soon, sort through it and get him to try it on to see if we need any last minute dashes for more trousers (I have a feeling the ones I bought at the start of the summer may be a tad snug by now - but they'll do for smaller brother next year).

simpson · 11/08/2009 21:50

still not found labels, not panicking yet

golgi · 11/08/2009 22:00

Buy more, you can always use the other ones in the future (unless you're planning a name change)

EldonAve · 11/08/2009 22:15

simpson - I'd just get a laundry pen in the meantime

I'm still missing quite a few items - they are on order but only 3 weeks til term starts

Still need to buy trainers but they can wait

treedelivery · 11/08/2009 23:04

Have you put them in with the uniform, which may be still in bags?

Are they in the crap drawer in the kitchen?

or bedside table drawer/dressing table?

Or where you keep your iron?

down back of washer/computer?

Aranea · 12/08/2009 11:23

Aww, just had my copy of dd1's transfer information from the nursery. It's so sweet.

tinkistheresidentshopper · 12/08/2009 12:13

bless aranea

EldonAve · 13/08/2009 16:41

Are people labelling socks?

Also how do I label a swimming hat?

golgi · 13/08/2009 18:34

No. I'm assuming he won't take them off.

Permanent marker?

EldonAve · 13/08/2009 18:36

I expecting socks off for swimming and sport
Can't recall how many times a week they do sport
Everyone will be wearing the same socks

I will try marker on the hat

golgi · 13/08/2009 21:54

Swimming. Hmm. I don't think mine will go swimming. Or they would have mentioned it, do you think?

(panics about getting swimming kit together at the last minute)

Aranea · 13/08/2009 22:02

Wow, do the reception kids do swimming? Ours don't start till they're 7 I think. God, can you imagine what it must be like?!

EldonAve · 13/08/2009 22:05

I think it depends on the school - mine will go from half term onwards

My friend sent her child to a daycare nursery where they took them swimming every week

tinkistheresidentshopper · 14/08/2009 12:36

hi

my order of 3 pairs of school sgoes to go into clarks in in ye going tomorrow

tinkistheresidentshopper · 14/08/2009 12:38

and just doubled up with tesco vouchers online for school vouchers to buy her more school uniform want to buy 2 more pinafores got other 2 in sale will b abit small some more white polo shirts she has 3 want to make sure she has plenty is all very exciting

Aranea · 15/08/2009 21:48

I know I'm getting a bit ahead of myself here... but I keep hearing that you should hear your child read every day after school. Does anyone have any idea how you would manage that with a younger child around? At the moment all my focused one-to-one time with dd1 is spent while dd2 is napping. But her naps will all be during the school day.

I'm going to be rubbish at this, aren't I?

tinkistheresidentshopper · 16/08/2009 09:38

sure you will be fine aranea i have a baby also who is 7 mnths old

got dd1 school shoes yest she choose brown ones with a flower on.
black actual school shoes only ones in her size dint fit properly. only others were patent black with buckles - didnt want buckles as she wont be able to do them up and undo them and red patent and blue patent with lights
